  1. Oh yeah! Who can forget THAT!?
  2. NX1 forum can be for all the Samsung cameras for now.
  3. You can't dislike flares. That's like saying you dislike the colour 'green'. You just haven't seen the RIGHT flares. Used the RIGHT WAY.
  4. Things are moving fast guys. I've created a sub-forum for any subjects which might require a separate thread. Regarding compression on uploads or attachments, let me know if this is a problem and I will look into it. http://www.eoshd.com/comments/forum/25-samsung-nx1-hack/
  5. The new titanium PL mount SLR Magic Anamorphot cinema lenses are designed for RED users, Arri and Canon professionals. They're also a great fit for the Sony A7S II and Samsung NX1. Read the blog post here
  6. Apparently BM specced it out themselves, it's a custom chip not an off the shelf one. There's a reason none of the major manufacturers are using global shutter apart from Sony as seemingly a weird one off on the F55. It is a long way off yet when it comes to image quality.
  7. I think 4K 24p Super 35 -> to the ultimate 1080p in post for $1k is a pretty good deal to be honest.
  8. So just shoot 4K then! What's the problem?
  9. Seems more like a hardware issue to me, just claim under the warranty or take it back to the store.
  10. Good news! Blackmagic have sent me one for review, should be here any day now!
  11. Maybe they will call it the 5D4K and it'll have no raw stills, just JPEGs and the guys on the DPR forum will go APE SHIT That would be so amusing
  12. I hope they hurry up and release it then, because I am seriously considering the 1D X Mark II for video. If the 5D Mark III has the same AF system but full frame image 4K, Canon LOG and articulated screen it would be seriously good. This is Canon though so I would take just one of the above
  13. Nice post. PIX startup time a total dealbreaker for me.
  14. The unlimited data plans aren't really unlimited, there's a fair usage policy with all hosts. The more data you tend to get, the shittier the server in terms of performance. I know if I started to host videos on this site, it'd cost me a lot of extra hosting fees. Fact. In terms of the hosting alone Vimeo is a good deal and is ad free unlike YouTube. Hosting your own videos would work on a small scale but as soon as you had a decent amount of attention, it'd cost you a bomb. Also a bunch of videos on a page somewhere has always been easy to do... but with Vimeo or YouTube you're buying into the fact that they are searchable, indexed, have a whole CMS around them, a page template and a whole interactive platform, as well as millions of people visiting the domain already and a huge community. Don't forget that. Vimeo may have made some missteps, but overall I don't think the 'era is over', although YouTube is a massive threat and Vimeo have to strengthen their 'uniqueness'.
  15. Nice shooting Gpanazio By the a tip for anyone trying to avoid rolling shutter... Wide angle lens reduces it a lot.
  16. Well if it doesn't give them the hits, they're not interested. If this was a Nikon hack.... There's no accounting for taste I find.
  17. Well EOSHD has always been about both photo and video in one camera body, so I think it helps. The vast majority here will use a mirrorless camera instead of an expensive dedicated video camera like the FS5 or C300. And since the two are converging - stills and video - you're in the right place to talk about the future. It is frustrating that the FS5 doesn't have the latest AF innovations, since it costs 5x what one A6300 does and was released just a few months earlier.
  18. The sway of the background, yeah I see what you mean - works artistically in some cases. Sounds ridiculous but it's true. Rare case though. As you can see the image is stunning but I wish Sony would stop putting cameras out there with such stupid flaws such as overheating, rolling shutter and pixilated focus punch-in, they'd be so much better if they had a Canon-like bullet proof reliability about them. It's reaching a critical point now. I need to enjoy my Sony shoots more than I do otherwise I will sell the whole lot (A7S II, A6300, FS5) and get a 1D X Mark II.
  19. So first proper shoot with the A6300 this weekend. I had terrible overheating problems after an hour, not even recording continuously but rather 2-5 mins at a time with brief pauses in-between. Also the manual focus assist zoom is a joke... how the heck do Sony think this is even usable to check focus in video mode... How do you tell if a shot is sharp by looking a blurry mess!!? Basic logic fail. However the 4K image is just... SO GOOD. Nice form factor and EVF too. Also the quality of the rear screen (when not zoomed) - very very good indeed.
  20. I'm considering moving all of my videos to YouTube. That's coming from someone who actually loves Vimeo. I still pay for my account to provide the download option so people can download the ProRes file to get a better idea of quality, and the community there is better quality too which tends to lead to a more constructive thread under the video in terms of comments... although sometimes a little TOO polite! Sadly I don't think Vimeo have had their eye on the ball recently in terms of growing the site in an interesting way. Facebook groups have sucked the life out of the Vimeo groups and YouTube is sucking away the traffic. I know that if I upload something to YouTube it's going to get double or triple the attention. So yeah, challenges ahead for Vimeo and they need a more interesting direction... but let's not knock what they've created. Vimeo On Demand was interesting too... good to be able to make money from our work this way.
  21. Some great work here Thread is now a sticky topic.
  22. Yes all the film simulations work in video mode. It is only the other controls like grain simulation / shadow / highlight / sharpness that don't seem to work in video mode. But it doesn't bother me as the film simulations are so nice anyway and as I said before, you can bring up a lot of shadow detail in post. Dynamic range is good. Not quite as good as SLOG or Nikon flat profile but you're trading a bit to get the nicer tonality and colour. That's doing a great job of showing why I like it so much for video. Great detail, superb film simulation / colour out of the box. I see he used Film Convert in post on it. The codec does hold up well. Very similar codec performance to a Nikon D750... but more detailed and 'alive'.
