  2. Oh yes. That would be great to have a 60-180mm f/4.5-6.3 with a 62mm filter thread, under 250g. Let's add on that 28mm or 40mm f/2.8 pancake about the same size as the stupid 26mm MF one. The system would then be complete!
  3. Re. S9 lens options (and being a 'zoom' rather than 'prime' person), now the 24-60 F2.8 is out, the obvious hole in Panasonic's full-frame small/light zoom range is a longer focal length companion to the 18-40 collapsible zoom e.g. a compact 35-90. (Like the 12-32 plus 35-100 pair they introduced to go with the smaller M43 cameras years ago). The current 'reasonably compact' FF zoom range mounted on the S9 (from the left, 18-40, 20-60, 28-200 and 24-60):
  4. I know it's 2025, but does anyone still consider using Loupes on the back of the LCD? Don't these seem more elegant and lighter solutions like for the S9? Or even just one of these:
  5. Really great focal range for me, but I don’t have any APSC cameras. Interesting though…especially if I do move over to Sony next year because on an FX30 body, that would be a very neat pairing for my needs…

It involves their partner and I'm not talking about Leica. RED going down market and Sony's success with VENICE has stirred up some unlikely partnership collabs.

  8. I will take a Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 for my Fuji X-Pro3 thank you.
  9. https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-aps-c-shooters-rejoice-sigma-to-launch-the-rf-17-40mm-f-1-8-and-rf-12mm-f-1-4/ Remember those like 5 years where everyone had the 18-35mm f1.8? Seems like this would be the successor. Full frame is of course dominant now, so this wouldn't be as omnipresent as the 18-35, but could still be a very popular choice, at least if it comes to other mounts too.
  10. Very promising, assuming that the power issue has more to do with the FP than the EVF itself. A bit disappointing about the crushed blacks though. I wonder if that could be tweaked in the firmware, maybe it's a 16-235 vs 0-255 issue.
  11. I already have a few of primes you mention. I have the 24 and 50mm, but I fear they might be only for a pinch. I'll probably use the 18-40 for the moment. I'm going to give it go with my Konica lenses too, especially my 40mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.4. Also, I have the 21mm f/2.8 and the 100mm f/2.8; so, plenty of options there. It should arrive tomorrow.
  12. Depends on your preferences but all of the Sigma f2/2.8 primes, all the Lumix f1.8/2.8 primes, various small zooms including the new 24-60, all very good combos. I prefer the Sigma f2’s for stills and for their build and looks, but I went with the Lumix f1.8 primes for mine with the 18, 50 and 85. I’m now questioning the 18 and might trade it for the 24 as it’s just a bit too wide for my needs and taste. The 35 is not quite wide enough and a bit close to the 50. The 50 has been my workhorse the last few jobs and the one I am currently on, but whether I stay with L Mount for video or flip to Sony (or Nikon) 99% sure I will pick up a Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 because that would suit my needs best.
  13. I don't have a definitive answer, so this is an 'engineering opinion': For UHD (3840 x 2160) the G7 crops a slightly larger area out of the centre of the sensor, around 4100 pixels horizontally. Someone on Reddit estimated it to be 4130 x 2323 - see https://www.reddit.com/r/PanasonicG7/comments/3zfu0f/comment/cym5c9j/ - which is very close to 4096 x 2320 (and both dimensions of that are divisible by 16). If you take 4096 x 2320 and multiply each dimension by 15/16 you get 3840 x 2175, and I suspect because of the low scaling ratio it's most likely using 'nearest neighbour' re-sampling (line-skipping in camera speak) to generate UHD from it. So my educated guess is that its reading out a 4096 x 2320 region of the sensor, de-bayering it and then using line-skipping to down-sample it to 3840 x 2160.

And Trump has grabbed them all.
  15. Feeling for you. Trump is an economic abomination. It's like a horse race, think of it of all the horses chomping at the bit to get out the gates to increase their profits and prices, but if only one or 2 horses bolt, consumers will shun them and buy the cheaper products... if all the horses bolt at once, what are consumers gonna do... feck all about it.
  16. The S9 is now getting interesting at recent prices I've seen it for in France- under 1000 euros. I'm contemplating now. I figure the launch price should have been this. All they had to do is not give out so many of them for free to influencers. It only really has 3 or 4 modern lens options and a slew of vintage options, but it might be enough.

  18. I ordered the EVF thanks to this great thread. Shipping took around 3 weeks to Germany and I had to pay 20€ extra. 215€ total. Thats not even half the price of the Sigma FP EVF. Unfortunately it does not work 100% with the Sigma FP. The camera screen flickers when I plug the EVF in and once in a while a frame appears on the EVF. After switching the settings of the HDMI Output in the menu a couple of times it eventually always works. Sometimes it takes 1 minute, sometimes 10 seconds, but after I switch off the camera it's always the same issue again. At first I thought it wouldn't work at all and that the HDMI power of the FP was not strong enough but once the EVF works it does so without a problem until I power off the camera. For focus the image is nice and mirroring the camera display works great, with peaking, false colour, magnification, etc. The blacks are crushed (and have a green tint), so for exposure it is not as useful. If it wouldn't be for that annoying connectivity issue this thing would be perfect. Paired with the 28-200 this finally makes my stripped down "Bolex FP" complete. Being able to adjust the EVF freely and keep the camera close to my chest is really comfortable and the Lens Stabilisation makes the FP viable for handheld while still being compact and light. Think I'll be using this for slow paced personal projects or when I am filming constantly and dont turn off the camera a lot. The form factor and not having to think about extra batteries is great. For photography in sunlight I'll still have to use my diy loupe for the backscreen because waiting up to a minute for the EVF to finally work is just to cumbersome. @Clark Nikolai Do you know if the buttons on the back have any functionality apart from the one that changes brightness?
  19. In fact, the actual reason for his death was severe dehydration after an epic self-shitting when he unboxed the FX2 that Sony sent for the camera review YouTube channel he intended to start. As a counterpoint, if there's any artist absurd enough that someone might buy and build a shrine to their ironing board... Plus there was this! And there's some more near the end of the full episode, starting at 17:00 or so. ``` https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7ww2rd
  20. The ironing board would certainly help when creating a flat profile.
  21. Proof right there. That is the new ad for the FX2 with the tagline, “Would have been the camera of choice had David lived a bit longer than he did”. It will sell 10’s more as a result. (Buy 2, get a free ironing board)
  22. The prices that people are bidding on there are absolutely wild. If I squint a bit, then I can vaguely, almost, kind of see the reason why people pay outlandish premiums for a creative tool that has been owned by a renowned artist in the vague hope that there will be some transference of magical artistic residue to them if they use it. However, I do question how someone is expecting to up their laundry game in the same manner by paying $500 for his fucking ironing board. I mean, I’m aware of his artistic output but was he particularly renowned for being crease free too?
  23. Quick question: Is the G7's 4k line-skipped or pixel-binned? I cannot seem to find definitive information on this. I can easily get it to moiré but usually in the blue channel.
  24. I’m pretty sure his last words were, “I’m gonna buy a Sony FX2”. And if they weren’t, Sony need to put that rumor out there to help boost sales.
