City of Lakes – full HDSLR feature version

It’s here – the full movie “City of Lakes”, a hybrid wedding / feature film shot with a Canon 5D Mark II + 7D.

The wedding photo/video industry is a field desperately in need of some innovation. In the West, wedding photos and videos are expertly put together but always look the same… as much as churches are the same. In Asia, they do things differently but just as formulaically. The couple have their wedding photos taken in full dress months before the event itself, and in a variety of touristy hotspots. So different to the church shots – but again, still all the same in their own way.

Pacific Pictures set out to do things dramatically differently for a real wedding in India. Granted, this is not a typical wedding – it’s a lavish affair. But it does show what kind of innovation is possible even in the most formulaic of industries. In this case the real wedding forms the backdrop of a fictional story.

Pacific Pictures had sponsorship to achieve this and gear provided by Cinevate. It’s not an easy thing to achieve, and is commercially risky for many others to try, but it does show what HDSLRs are capable of when you really throw everything at the wall, including a bucket load of talent.
