Looking ahead to new 2012 cameras – the return of DSLR video with a vengeance

2012 will be the best year for DSLR video since it all began to kick off in 2009 with major releases due from every big manufacturer.

This is a Photokina year starting September 18th as well, where we will most likely see the Panasonic GH3. There are other key events like CES and NAB within 4 months to keep an eye on, particularly for a working Canon’s 4K DSLR prototype.

JIN Finance, the lens adapter machinists in Shanghai, have recently started making DSLR video gear and the big surprise is how well designed it is and the standard of the materials. They are not high end but affordable and accessible for the many, and incredibly good value. Now shooters have been using the rig and follow focus and some have posted reviews.

Look carefully at the design of this – it’s brilliant for the price.

They say that good design costs nothing, but manufacturing and tooling certainly does. Here, the manufacturers of this follow focus, JIN Finance are at an advantage. You probably already have a JIN Finance product because they were the original builders of aluminium lens adapters for Micro Four Thirds. Everything from Canon FD to Contax Zeiss they made and sold since before the GH1 was released, and I still use their adapters today. They haven’t worn out!

Nikon – “DSLR video is taking off massively”

Nikon have seen huge demand recently for their first 1080p DSLR, the D7000. In an interview with Imaging-Resource at CES, Nikon vice president David Lee says that he… “really believes a very important feature, and that when we came this past year with the full 1080p, those models have really taken off”.

Over the course of EOSHD.com nearly all my kit has been sourced from eBay. Not for me these super expensive gear lists. I find it much more interesting to find unique treasure online – the stuff which hardly anybody else is shooting with and lenses with a unique look.

My eBay searches have served me very well over the year. Unfortunately I can’t buy every gem I see so now it’s over to you.
