Seems there's no way for the moment to unlock it. Any progress since 2017 in discovering if there is a hidden unlimited recording mode for the Panasonic G85? TurboRat
I'm also curious about this. I still have my G80 even though I use GH5, GH5s, A6500 in paid shoots. I really like it, it's small and so versatile. I also envy friends and family who bring their lightweight g80 to trips and can just store it anywhere lol IronFilm
Grimor
In the quest to find vlog or any other high bit rate modes, i send thousand of html request to my camera. (Thanks BTM lord, you show us the way to your holy light) Only 2 weird hidden formats appeared with corrupts .mov file sistem and when we could recover the files, they were no high bitrates at the end. So no succes.

If it's got the latest version of the firmware then see if you can find an older version and try and install that, then install the latest one over the top of it so you're back to the latest features. Often firmware upgrades can be triggered via having a file on the SD card and holding down a button on startup, so may not require the menus to work, see if you can get lucky with it. Otherwise, trying to get around the recording limit essentially voids the warranty, so if it's bricked, then it's bricked.

Flapman
Sorry for pulling up this old topic, but I registered here just to say a big THANK YOU for this thread, specially to the user Grimor. I stumbled upon a Youtube video how to hack the recording time limitation but of course it didn't work out for my G81 (80/85) as well and I was very unhappy with the exclamation mark. This topic here seems to be the only source on the whole WWW for solving this problem. So, once again: thank you so much.
Loomix
Hello! With the AI camera modifications going around I thought I'd go take a crack at the G81 record times. TL;DR is firmware for all models is identical, answer might be in the EEPROM (solvable) or in the NAND (unsolvable without hardware modification). After dumping the ROM it generated a few modified ROM files that unfortunately had no effect. To be completely sure the ROM route does not work I would need a "donor" rom. The Aussie one would be perfect, but the US one works too. Mode dial P, Drive mode dial Single. Hold DISP + AF/AE LOCK + Right (WB), turn camera on while holding. Then Playback button once, then MENU and on the last page of the Setup menu, there should be a ROM BACKUP option. Select DSC->SD. This will write two .txt files to the root of the SD card. If you can send these for me to compare against mine, we will have a difinitive answer if the record limit can be removed via ROM or if hardware modification is the only option. Administrators Andrew - EOSHD Posted 2 hours ago Administrators Share Posted 2 hours ago I have also been looking at the Panasonic cameras for Canon style Claude opportunities. My S9 is very bolted down and not getting very far. My G9 II takes the ROM dump service mode key combo (AF-ON + PLAY + POWER ON) but the ROM dump options are like your G81 - they dump meta data and camera settings not a firmware dump from RAM so Claude can't take a look at the unencrypted ROM binary. The S9 doesn't even take the key combo which is odd as G9 II and S9 are same gen. The other avenue in USB PTP commands to trigger a deeper service mode of some sort, but one of these commands crashed my G9 II so I backed off after that. Might be worth probing on a throwaway camera though. After the GH1 and GH2 hack I think Panasonic bolted down the hatches! Still hopeful it can be figured out though.
