  1. The FZ1000 is cheaply made but otherwise a solid poor-man's HQ camcorder setup. My church uses two plus a Panasonic G7 and a PTZ camera for a live-stream setup. Gives us great zoom flexibility with a 1 inch sensor, very nice shallow DOF on the long end if you are in the 300-400mm equiv. range. HDMI out does work, yes it's fragile (we've broken the ports before and needed to get them fixed) and it shuts off when recording (so I've heard, we never record internally) but otherwise the HDMI output fully works, cameras don't shut off and you can output 720p, 1080p, 4k or oversampled 1080p with decent control over framerate. Except for FHD you only get 24p or 60p output, for 30p the camera still outputs 60p. But in OBS you can just drop every other frame and get right back to 60p. 720p has the lowest latency so for live broadcast usage it actually can be a useful mode.
  2. At this point I’m going to need to shoot some more footage first..
  3. Ok gotcha. The lut is just a basic rec709 conversion lut, doesn’t put a stylized grade on it. I made it in Resolve using the CST node and an exposure compensation. But yeah I can send you some TIFFS
  4. Want some ungraded TIFFS from a Nikon Z6 shooting oversampled 1080p NLOG? Also a dope lut made from Davinci resolve, that works worlds better than Nikon’s rec709 lut? I can hook ya up
  5. Ok good point. I was not aware it used a different sensor, that definately changes my opinion then!
  6. Valid. But to counter your point, despite this being a large DSLR it is still going to be a compact, well-distributed package considering there is internal RAW. Yes the R6 ii is smaller, but slap an Atomos Ninja V on there to record Prores RAW and you now have a large, heavy setup with awkward ergonomics and balance. I guarantee the 1dx ii will be more enjoyable to use, as the RAW recording is internal, thus not requiring a large external recorder to be bolted to the top of the camera.
  7. Slightly off-topic but for not terribly more one can purchase a used Canon 1Dx Mark III to get 5k internal RAW, a similar image to a Canon R3
  8. Everything I ever do goes online to YouTube. No one is going to see the benefits of 4k or 8k. And to be honest, often 8k downrezzed to 4k or even 1080p is just too sharp; I sometimes find 4k on my Nikon Z6 to be too sharp; I can see too many pores in the skin. As I've said before, downsampled 1080p I think is a perfect medium, great detail without looking too sharp, small file sizes, still great image flexibility. Plus I can literally get away with cropping in on this 1080p image and it still holds up to an extent. To me dynamic range and color are much more noticable to me than are a more detailed image. And again, it's all going online where people just won't see the difference, even if I scale up my 1080 to 4k for YT delivery.
  9. Poor AF? I’ve heard it’s usuable
  10. Actually Ninja 2 does not seem terribly-sized, an interesting option!
  11. Ninja 2 should do it. It's going to be bigger and heavier, but you can get the identical 1080p image. Just set record settings to 4k on the Z6; then go into HDMI settings, set output to 10 bit and resolution to 1080p. Then the downsampling is activated.
  12. Looks like there is a variable 10x FHD zoom function…which leads me to believe the FHD 24p image is oversampled. If so that’s huge.
  13. Seems to offer some useful new features. 6k RAW over HDMI DPAF II (this is killer) Movie pre-record FHD at 180fps with full AF False Color Support (yay) Focus-breathing compensation Overheating much improved for 4k 60p, eliminates for 4k30p
  14. Exactly! The differences are tiny. Especially if you view the footage at 100%.
  15. I wholeheartedly agree, and I wish I had done that with my original post. My original point was that natively, when looking at the RAW files, downsampled 1080p doesn't look much softer than native 4k. The difference is small enough not to matter unless viewed side-by-side. The difference is small, and as a result one can use a tiny Atomos Ninja Star with a Nikon Z6 to gain 10 bit log without needing a large bulky external recorder/monitor, thus making the Z6/Star combination very compelling given the price.
  16. Plus you get a lot of popular 2022 convenience features at a very low price point. You really can’t get full frame 10 bit PDAF and IBIS for this cheap otherwise
  17. Yeah Kye I never got that from your posts. My whole point was that downsampled 1080p looks very similar to 4k even when viewed on a 4k screen, and because of that fact, the Atomos Ninja Star makes the Nikon Z6 a pretty great camera in 2022, as you get a great image but much less inconvenience compared to most external recorder/monitors.
  18. I definately agree. Sure there is a small difference, but it's quite small, and if anything that difference is more like in 4k you can see too many pores on the skin, with oversampled 1080p it looks almost the same but just enough softness to add a bit of organic mojo to the image.
  19. Plot twist time... Not only was the footage oversampled 1080p and not 4k, but much of the 1080p source footage was stabilized in-post and thus scaled up further. Still looks solid on my end.
  20. Did you mean downsampled 4k to HD is hard to distinguish from 4k?
  21. Yeah, I may re-upload. I realize that. Except I deleted the RAW footage, I plan to upload another example and will upload in 4k, then will post it here.
