  1. Understandable. Not the smallest camera in the world lol.
  2. Literally he is so underrated

We should revive this what cool stuff is everyone making right now?
  4. Even the freaking c100 II and original A7S look incredible in the right hands.
  5. And the difference now is nothing like what it used to be. When we leapfrogged from lineskipped Canon t2i mush to GH4 clean 8mp 4k readouts, those were some huge IQ improvements. Everything now feels so tiny, what I really do care and appreciate about with modern releases is workflow, ergonomics, things that contribute to my enjoyment of shooting. And I do see genuine advancements. That’s what matters to me.
  6. Haha nice I just bought a Nikon F 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 as a dirt cheap zoom lens for my Nikon z6. Gonna post about it in the lenses topic but yea f4 is often plenty. Yepp. I was networking with a wedding videographer the other day and showing her some of my work, she was asking me if I shot in SLOG3 when like half the videos I sent her were in 8 bit flat on my Nikon z6, but they were color graded in davinci to improve the highlight rolloff etc lol they did not end up looking different from lots of people’s videos they’re produced on FX3s. Really does come down to how you use the tools and seems that we’ve had sufficient tools for quite a while. I still don’t think I have reached the limits of what my 7 yr old Z6 is even capable of haha. Again I also think a big reason in people’s minds that they think the current crop of cams looks so much better than the stuff we had in 2017/18 (or heck even 2015 with some of the stuff I’ve seen from the Panasonic GX85 lol) comes down to skill. YouTube reviewers are much better in lighting, grading, editing etc than they were when say the A7iii was released. Yea there are totally very real advancements and I’m not discounting that these advancements can be extremely helpful, but I think so many older cameras are capable of a wayyy better image that I used to think…and that a lot of people on YouTube still think.
  7. Yes…it destroys our contentment with the gear we already have haha
  8. Probably bored. I would be too if I was doing those reviews for that long lol. Still tho.
  9. Absolutely, I agree and would say its a draw between Lumix and Nikon for the best value and innovation right now imo. I feel super secure a a Nikon Z6 shooter knowing that my current camera has aged really well and continues to fit my needs, and when I need (or want) to upgrade I can easily get a Z6III (or heck even a Z5II is fantastic), use all my current f-mount lenses, use my Z6 OG as a bcam and have a camera that's super competitive. And I'm so impressed at all of Lumix's stuff; the freaking S9 for $1k used is killer, the S5II is cheap and darn near perfect, and the S1 II basically flawless. LUMIX and Nikon really are the top dogs right now. But back to the main topic...it seems there are so many aspects of the brand deals that are not disclosed well. Like this entire Craterr thing. When was that ever made clear in a video ever?!?! "Yo this camera manufacturer sent me this camera for free but dont worry this is my unbiased opinion" just does not cut it anymore. When I watch the 'popular' camera youtube, i start to feel the lie that my current gear is inadequate...but its funny because then when I'm actually shooting and editing i totally forget about that and end up feeling really comfortable shooting on a camera I have been using for 4 years...and as my skills improve so do the results I'm able to get out of the camera. I am getting better results out of the Z6 8 bit flat than I used to out of the 10 bit NLOG Prores from the Ninja V...and I literally had a post on this forum from 3 years ago deeming the 8 bit flat "unusable" with "terrible highlight rolloff". Well a few small tricks in Resolve and I was able to just roll off the highlights more in post which really mitigates that problem haha, and I can get the color/image to a really nice point in the internal 8 bit...
  10. Honestly you are so right. I too have noticed how rapidly people are hyping up Panasonic as they once did Sony. And all at once. And 1/3 of these YouTubers are brand ambassadors for LUMIX. Don’t get me wrong the current crop of lumix cams are amazing and they in a sense do deserve the praise they are getting…literally that good. But still…
  11. Facts. Still some gems out there. I still love Nigel Barros’ content and he has a second channel now haha (side-note, pretty funny how good the gh5 looks given many YouTubers dismiss it now lol. I’m realizing that a good 60% of the reason modern cameras seem to look so much better than cameras from 2014-2018 is because the skills of those reviewing cameras has gotten so much better. Nigel’s footage looks amazing. Obviously, there are absolutely valid reasons to upgrade still. But I’m realizing image quality is not as bad as I’m tempted to think on older cameras)
  12. Yeppp. I love Justin Philip BTW. But yeah these youtubers deserve it lol. The YT camera community is so toxic.
  13. Definitely agree on this point. Good option if you’re buying a super specific ultra-cheap cam like the EOS M and have super limited funds, but I totally get that it’s not really worthwhile for a working pro. I mean, the R50V’s existence makes a lot of other cameras in the $300-700 price range a hard sell lol.

    Sony FX2

Sorry bro, I wasn’t trying to accuse you of doing that! I know you and others do totally have legit reasons to buy this. I just think a lot of the YouTube hype is overblown. Your reasons are justified. Sorry if it came across that way.
  15. Agreed modern Canon bodies really are not very crippled. The fact that the $649 R50V has CLOG3 10 bit is proof. But still, advancements on these older cameras is always exciting, and those old canon sensors certainly have a unique look that I think isn’t quite the same on the newer bodies.

    Sony FX2

I am still shooting on a 7 year old Nikon Z6 and have found that I have not yet even reached the full potential of its 8-bit flat profile, and I've been doing video for 6 years...I am so bored with new camera releases. Yet another cash grab by Sony. Here's a trailer for a wedding I shot recently. Clearly, this video is useless, as it's only 8 bit, not shot in LOG and it's not filmed on Sony's cinema line. I can't be a professional filmmaker unless I get one of Sony's cinema bodies. Same goes for you all. Join me as we all purchase Sony FX2s using my affiliate link below. And don't worry; this review isn't sponsored.
  17. Your friend must be incredible. The next Roger Deakins. How about you? Has the phone replaced YOU???????
  18. **Haven't been active a while but have been lurking often, just not posting. Hoping to get back to posting much much more regularly now and actually being involved in this awesome community. Hope everyone is doing great and making awesome art that plays in sequences of frames 😉 "_names_are_hard" from the magic lantern forum made a post yesterday announcing a new official development team; I am not 100% sure but seems as though this was not the case sine a1ex left a few years ago. Obviously, awesome developments have still occurred in the mean time, such as the incredible work done to the EOS M, 5d Mark iii and more to sd overclock, implement new binning modes that provide more image detail and less moire, and enable excellent previews in modes that previously rendered almost unusable to monitor. Now an official development team is back, and their aim, according to the post, is to implement features into main builds; finally we do not need to dig through forum posts anymore lol... What is even more exciting is the announcement of great improvements towards Digic 6 and Digic 7 cameras. The Canon 200d/SL2 has an OFFICIAL build with WORKING RAW VIDEO. This excites me, as supposedly this camera has an entire stop better dynamic range at ISO 200 than the 5d mark iii does...and DPAF to boot. Makes me want to get one just to play around with and rig into a poor man's interview b-cam for my Nikon Z6. The 7d mark ii, 6d mark ii and 750d/t6i also have official builds, though more work needs to be done to implement RAW video. Still, even this is exciting news, because it looks like a point will be reached in which the aforementioned cameras all have stable RAW video. Man...the 6d Mark II is gonna become absolutely killer and I believe might overtake the legendary 5d mark iii as the ML king...why? Full-frame AND Dual Pixel Autofocus. So exciting. Imagine if they progress on the EOS R and we get RAW video on that...we shall see. Anyways, wanted to share as I think it is exciting that the ML community is getting active again. Although I have never personally owned a ML camera, it has always fascinated me and I want to pick up a ML-compatible Canon body, even if it's the dirt-cheap Canon 50d that makes it possible to shoot continuous 14-bit RAW video for only $86 US on ebay haha. Exciting times. Screw modern camera releases. My 7 year old Nikon Z6 is still alive and kicking. And these old cameras are about to become beasts. And to me 5d mark ii/5d mark iii/eos m crop mood stuff looks just as good as your youtube shill Sony FX2 bs anyways lol... https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=27315.0 Also here's the dirt cheap Canon 50d...I might buy one. Literally the cheapest half decent ML RAW cam in existence: https://www.ebay.com/itm/326652260011?_skw=canon+50d&epid=100134403&itmmeta=01JYD74BEKB8BK43GTP64YXEYE&hash=item4c0dfdeeab:g:zH4AAeSwaqVoO8fg&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dPuUUXNiquWqTtYdpH3VhCftZqA2312R5f5VSKqv6B737uadt8L7po3UhjQmLj7p22fLaKrov1%2FdF7%2FPis094b98Wz%2FnMbwS7WtRhqTqfyUhYZCMMmhc9OdIad%2FLodvcJXSllJYh90xsUWRTm7vGW5QqKQBbevi0jxouClCZ%2Fbk6QKRNa9LTJsvkdX56eaU7F7IwVfBdZCHZOygCtMLm6H3MlF0YovoZEHjhhYqNq10jPFnlPCjhOBrGydgfrK%2BKuCTwN1sGX5Pb3KDZ5MpxcA|tkp%3ABk9SR7i3kafzZQ
  19. Anyone who buys this over a used GH5 should be diagnosed as clinically insane.
  20. I fell in love with the R5 as I got to film multiple recap videos with it. I will be honest, DIS is incredible and supercharged the IBIS. I can use an adapted EF 16-35 L or 24-70 L and consistently achieve stable tracking shots once I add warp stabilizer. IBIS + DIS in this camera is that good. And @Andrew Reid I agree the ergonomics are great. Not insane for video assists but it has zebras and a solid view assist which I find helpful. It’s on my radar as a potential upgrade but the z6 iii looks awesome and would make it easy to keep my original Z6 as a b-cam.
  21. All depends. My Nikon Z6 8-bit 420 is pretty solid.
  22. When they say you don’t need this or that and can use cheap gear, and then proceed to use and advertise expensive gear. These guys annoy me greatly.
  23. Agreed. Despite them being useful for the camera I currently own, I agree they are pointless in a lot of circumstances. Even my current setup right now, if one were to buy a used Z6 and a Ninja V, it would be approaching prices of cameras that can do an identical image internally. My setup made a lot of sense in early 2021 when I bought it; I already owned a Ninja V so the Z6 was the cheapest way to get 10 bit full-frame 4k and phase-detect autofocus. Very different landscape now. I really do agree that the market for external recorders is shrinking rapidly. I probably won't sell my Ninja V if I upgrade to a camera doing internal 10-bit; the resale value just makes me prefer to keep it. Besides, at least it will help me get Prores RAW out of a variety of cameras, which I can convert to CDNG if I really want to.
