- I live in a PAL region but camera was set to NTSC to have 24fps. There was a lot of flicker in EVF image even when only natural (sun) light was available. Maybe this can be avoided with some additional camera settings. No such problem when camera is set to PAL and 25fps.
Can you clarify this - so it works well on PAL inputs, but not NTSC?

I'm surprised at andrew's positivity at the fx2. I will say some positive things: I like the viewfinder (detachable would be better). I like the 2 screw holes at the bottom. and I like the exposed ports.
But yeah.. Nikon won't have to do much with the ZR to become top option. Open gate, and Red's colour would be enough.

- Still a photography hybrid camera, RAW shooting at 20fps
- Price expected to be in the region of $4.5k
- 14bit sensor readout in 6K, 14.5 stop dynamic range
Where are these from? Nikonrumors didn't post these? I'd like to see 14bit readout too though.
This is also a comment from Phil Holland, which isn't too different:
"If I was a guessing man, I think the efforts of RED and Nikon could lead to a smaller sized FX3-ish sort of Komodo, probably a model with in body stabilization to appease the crowd. But perhaps sticking to a more useful Komodo-X body type with a focus on trimming some length and weight. Maybe getting it down to 2lbs again. Perhaps with a flip up top LCD that folds down and rotates for protection with a decent latch so you can still use it for things Komodo really does well."
Personally I'd really like to see open gate, and ND's.

Love a hot take like this. I kinda agree it's not going to get people to switch for the price. but it does offer a lot of features. 50/60p open gate is pretty cool.

But it doesn't have xlr built into the camera??

Yeah I was so set on a Z9 but after doing some tests I got very frustrated with N-log. Exposing it right, grading it. Such a struggle I ended up using the baked profiles like flat or neutral. Maybe I didn’t find the right workflow but log footage was all over the place with often very little latitude. Call me biased but Clog is just so effortless to work with in comparison. N-log really killed my GAS for switching to Nikon..
If you use an external monitor with the new red luts it shouldn't be a problem, but yeah hopefully they give us firmware updates with IPP2 soon

I already got the Z8 an love it. I do think the xh2s still has nicer log profile (it's basically the same as arri) and open gate, but the Nikon is a lot more reliable in every other way.

Aside from possible firmware updates or, we won't see anything from that for at least 2-3 years. Unless it's just releasing a current Red camera with Z mount.
-
So it's been 3.5 years. What's the latest?
About the time it takes for a camera development cycle. Either we're going to see something soon, or this was a genius SEO article.

I think Nikon/RED discounted because Nikon will come out with a cinema camera that will fill the Kimono space (something in lines to the C70 / FX3 FX6). I’ve heard Nikon will take those entry camera sales and RED will stick to high end lines. I’m interested to see what a Nikon cinema camera looks like.
This could be interesting. When do we think Nikon would release something?

They could also use a much slimmer bezel on an OLED display, like the Xperia 1 series phones, with square edges, which would eliminate the massive chin on the current camera LCDs.
Was going to say this. The bezels on these camera displays are huge. They could go up to 4" just by reducing those.

Really am starting to think about moving to L-mount. Have a much greater range of cameras to choose from
And yet the z6iii and z8 are better than any L mount options

Probably in a technical sense, but you will never be able to see it.

Agreed. You basically need a Cine Saddle and a large Gold Mount + Cine Lens to shoot proper looking handheld.
I love my C70 but it is IS lenses or gimbal and tripod only. An EVF would fix this.
How does evf fix this? Do you have examples of video explaining?

Mark my words TicoRAW is a dead dodo
Nikon is all about R3D from now on and it will be on all their cameras in place of N-RAW which is going away.
Probably. But does anyone have a comparison between R3D and N-raw? the fact that N-raw files aren't split up and is 10-15 years newer is already an advantage

The red guy already said in a YouTube video that they've licensed raw to all the major brands. We just haven't seen the releases yet.

My original question was about Sony's PDAF technology and if it was possible for Nikon to use it in a Red camera. Obviously, Nikon licenses it from Sony but do they pay an overall licensing fee to Sony for multiple cameras... or do they pay per sensor design/manufacture.
why do you think sony owns autofocus, or that nikon licences it from them?

Doesn't Nikon license their AF from Sony when they purchase their sensors? If that's the case, will future Red cameras have Sony sensors if they have AF?
Lol what. Only some of Nikon's sensors are Sony designed. Others like the z9 are designed by Nikon and then manufactured by Sony.
Nikon Z8 or Canon R5C to combine stills and video

unless you're doing selfies, the Z8 has a better screen mechanism. Also it won't overheat.
