  1. You honestly can't go wrong with any system. Panasonic's full frame line up which is now supporting 12 bit RAW out is really compelling. Full Frame 422 and 12 bit RAW at a $2k price point. Canon though pricey has a wide range of very reliable and ergonomic choices with some of the best color science and auto focus. RED has entered into the affordable market with the Komodo which gives you global shutter and 16 bit linear RAW. Sony is maybe a bit behind but the A7S3 is pretty compelling with high quality 4k up to 120fps in a small body all in full frame with no crop and 10 bit 422 also 12 bit prores RAW out. Z-cam is offering very ergonomic and affordable bodies ranging anywhere from M43 to Full frame with internal Prores, RAW, and Prores RAW out. Interchangeable mounts and easy to manage power solutions make it a very good option. Blackmagic though less ergonomic in general offers affordable cameras with one of the best internal codecs out there, BRAW. 12 bit compressed RAW that edits better then almost anything else. Can you really go wrong these days?
  2. Damn my Panasonic S1 is getting a huge upgrade next year. Prores RAW out....... Feeling good about picking one up for $1300.
  3. I rarely use high speed but other than the S1H even the 24p is kind of subpar. 150mbps is weak. Would be nice if they’d give a 300mbps option in longgop or Prores.
  4. I was under the impression the Zcam sensor is the same as the one used in the S1H or at least very similar. Still begs the question why did they choose that sensor.
  5. I'd agree. Color is defiantly better than Sony however after using Z-cam I find the Panny colors a bit subpar as well. I know the S1/S1H sensor is capable of 4K 60p 422 as well as 4k 120p. Z-cam is doing it. The S1H body is plenty big with fans, so I wouldn't think cooling would be the issue. Of course they are still great cameras I just don't understand the limitations.
  6. Because the A7s3 does 5x the frame rate. They are now going to release an S1V probably at the same price point as the S1H. I mean at this point Panasonic is just riding Sony’s coat tails as they get all their sensors from them.
  7. The S1H specs are already outdated. They shouldn't have rushed the S1H out IMHO. Its the same sensor as the S1. They should have just gave higher specs to the S1 and waited. The S1H is too heavy for the specs it has. 420 H265 4k 60p cropped and 120 hd. The Fuji has that at 1/4th the price and half the weight. Plus its 420 not 422.
  8. I personally love the sensor. Its got higher frame rate capabilities than the A73 type sensor that every full frame is using now. For photographers its kind of a bummer but the S1V will be video oriented anyways.

24-35 probably, and I'd rather avoid Nikon as I don't like the opposite focus direction.

Full frame preferably tho S35 is fine too. Something that is reasonably sharp wide open, the faster the better.
  11. Looks like the S1V will have the A7S3 sensor. I hope Z-cam does a full frame camera with that sensor as well.

Been browsing through this thread looking for info on zoom lenses. Does anyone know of some good manual zoom lenses? Looking for something in the $500-$1000 range. I just want something with a manual aperture.
  13. I am probably going to hold onto mine. Its really the full frame image, 422, plus IBIS that makes me hold on. The IBIS really is an amazing run and gun tool. Combined with the incredible dynamic range/high iso performance its hard to beat. I really hope they give it an update to have 24p in 1080 tho. I'd also love a 400mbps option in 4k.

    Fuji X-S10

Waiting on 422 and no record limits.
  15. Highlights aren’t clipped until 109 ire tho. “Overexposing” gives me super clean images. As long as they aren’t clipping
  16. @Sage Any plans on doing this for the Z-cams?
  17. Yeah 85% might make more sense in a controlled situation but if I am just shooting in natural light I like to expose the highlights as high as I can (again depending on the situation).
  18. I'd probably just go with one of the Cine profiles or picture profile off. As long as you expose/light correctly you'll have no issues. Nothing wrong with 8 bit cameras you just can't push them as far. If you have a good image to begin with you are fine. An A73 can look as good as an Alexa.
  19. Yeah I usually use the waveform. There is definitely info past 95 ire with zebras. I was shooting right into the sun while exposing for skin and it didn't clip at all. Really was surprised honestly.
  20. Yeah honestly if I was serious into stills I'd probably get the D750. Nothing really touches that sensor and DSLR AF is amazing.
  21. This S1 dynamic range is pretty incredible. I can overexpose and still bring a lot of information down. I wish the waveform would show when the sensor is actually clipping though.
  22. I personally don't need FF. The EVA1 sensor is nice but it needs the following. MFT mount 422 4k up to 120fps (Prores plus an H265 option) up to 8 stops internal ND Nice built in monitor (5 inch, 1000 knit, high res)
  23. Gimbals are great for steadicam shots. IBIS will never replace that IMHO. Gimbals have an mechanical feel that can sometimes ruin a shot. Nothing can replace the organic looks of a steadicam plus experienced operator.
