MrSMW got a reaction from newfoundmass in OM-System OM-3.... Um!
I quite like it, but would I buy it?
Nope. I'd rather have the OM5 or the original (digital) OM1 that was the last one to have OLYMPUS on the front.
I do wish my Nikon Zf was more this size though as that's my only real niggle with it, - it's a bit large for what it is.

I wonder just how close we are to movie level now then...
But I suppose the material still needs to exist to pull together to make this kind of thing and as a commercial and BTS, enough exists, but not for any kind of real movie that would require a unique script and acting.
At least not without going CGI.
It's crazy how good this stuff is becoming and if I was a youngster, I certainly would not be looking at the more traditional aspects of this industry such as cameras, lenses, lighting, sound etc, but what skills I could develop in my parents basement from my laptop.
But for me personally, that would be a hard no as it would not interest me and I'd rather be a lumberjack or something.

MrSMW got a reaction from Juank in What is Lumix thinking?!
I'm floating around the idea in my noggin of going for the 16 + 30 + 56 all f1.4 instead of the FF 18 + 50 f1.8s + 100 f2.8
Not as wide, not as much reach, but used, I can pick up the APSC trio for well under €1k.
Having said that, for me, it's not all about lowest price but rather a consideration as part of the whole.
And those FF primes from Lumix are not much bigger and heavier than those Sigma cropped lenses and I can keep on shooting 6k 30p open gate...
The/any S2R is going to be my trigger on this, but then having said that, part of me doesn't want there to be one so I can keep my A7RV 😜

They are not going to make an APSC because they would piss their FF market off big time when we are literally screaming for successors to the S line.
It’s not just the bodies but an entire lens line is required.
”Just use the existing FF lenses?”
In that case, your FF camera is also APSC. It’s called cropping.
And M4/3 users would flip out also and feel they were being neglected.
I doubt very much the market is there anyway and they are hardly the biggest player who can take a punt.
Nah, can’t see it. At all.

Actually, that is not a bad idea, - having the M4/3 crop on the FF sensor and better still if M4/3 lenses could be mounted with an adapter.
The G9II and S5II already share the same chassis and OK, some bemoan the size over some of the previous smaller bodies, but actually with some of the bigger M4/3 lenses, they would pair up very well.
And if we started with something like a 61MP sensor, plenty of size to crop into for what would be what, something somewhere around 20MP I guess (based on knowing that APSC is 26MP).
I body, many lenses, so many different use cases...

Plus if you wanted to, you could return the lens FOC back to them and they gave you a voucher to spend on something useful 😈

MrSMW reacted to ntblowz in Pana S9 is definition of an underrated camera
Just finished a 5 day indian wedding shoot, so far the only time it overheated was when I forgot to turn the external fan on. (Shooting 4k25p all day, and it's summer here atm)
I also did 1 and half hour interview in 3.8k opengate, that was without the fan but indoor, but towards the end I do see the overheating icon popping up.

MrSMW got a reaction from IronFilm in Increasing interest in compacts, something is strange
Different strokes for different folks as they say…
Despite being a full-time pro photographer (not so much at this time of year though) or perhaps despite being, I prefer my phone.
I like the idea of a compact but the simple reality is that old adage of the best camera you have is the one you carry with you. And 2 devices at all times is 1 too many for me.
If I was going on a serious trip, I’d take some serious kit. Not the entire kit, but enough to do the job without taking over from the purpose of the trip. Unless it was specifically a photography thing.
So send me out today with 1k burning a hole in my pocket for an every day compact and I’d come back with a phone.
But I will take your Sony A7RV sensor based compact for work purposes please Andrew!

^ Agree ^
The only reason I switched (2 reasons actually) to S5II's was:
A. I needed more reliable forward motion AF tracking. The AF of the first gen FF S line cameras was and is perfectly fine, except in this regard when it can be a bit hit and miss and just one miss with a critical unrepeatable scene and it's gone.
I shoot weddings so I am thinking bride entrance, confetti walk etc.
It happened. Several times.
B. I shoot outdoors mainly and some days, over 35c / 100f, direct sunlight and without a fan is not good.
I never had an overheating issue, but it could just have been a matter of time and was constantly on my mind.
With the S5II's, they still get hot, but I am not concerned.
_
I have personally never noticed any file quality difference between the S5 and S5II, but then never shot them side by side and 6 months apart.
There may be a difference, but nothing I have noticed or concerns me especially.
IMO, the S5 is the budget filmmakers bargain of this current decade.

MrSMW got a reaction from Juank in What is the point of N-RAW?
I looked at a few more examples of this kind of thing yesterday and came to the conclusion, that without even trying it, raw is not for me 🤔
It's those file sizes when it comes down to it.
If ultimate image quality was my thing rather than 'high level of quality that is 'good enough as far as I am concerned', then 200mbs smashes 2500mbs in my world because I don't need file sizes 12x the size for marginally improved image quality some of the time that only the nerdiest of nerds would ever notice.
Nah, quite happy with burning a custom LUT at the time of shooting into all my footage.
I have no need to please anyone but myself and my paying client who is paying and trusting me to deliver something similar to that which I showcase which comes full circle back to shooting to please myself, because that is what they are seeing and buying into.
Which is partly why the S5ii (I should be on commission from Lumix) for me cannot be beaten, as in add up all the features I want out of a camera and system, for my needs, and it's top dog at any money.
Considered Z8 and Z6iii and a number of Sony's and some Canon's and a few Fujis and nope, - nothing quite measures up.
I still prefer...just, the image straight out of the S1H, but you can't burn a LUT straight into the log footage and it's AF is a bit wonky.
I've been editing a ton of footage recently and with most clips, I am saying to myself, "yep, just what I wanted and limited tweaking required" and if it's off in any way, it's more because of my failures re. lighting and WB where I have either not recognised something or simply forgot to flip to another custom setting.
Perfect? Ha, no, just as above, 'good enough as far as I am concerned', for my wants and needs. Raw would just be a major headache and overkill. At a level of 12x. As a minimum.

I would like a compact actually and either an updated version of Sony's R1XR or something like a 60mp Lumix S9.
With the latter, I think they might need to beef up the build a little and maybe swap out the SD card for CF and for a lens...oh, Lumix don't do any compact fast lenses do they...
Fuji are supposed to be having their large sensor compact on it's way, but without IBIS so not so much interested.

Which has now got me thinking again about doing this with one of my FF Lumix cameras which when shooting raw only, can do about 6 seconds I think at 30fps.

The S5 is still such a great camera and one that you can still grow into, all for under $900 in like new condition with a warranty on sites like MPB, or even better deals you can find locally or on Facebook Marketplace/Craigslist/eBay/whatever.
And even though it's going to be 5 years old this year, Lumix kept improving it with firmware updates so it doesn't feel terribly outdated. One of the reasons I say it's a camera that you can still grow into is because I've never even used the ProRes RAW or BRAW capabilities, never really had to because I do mostly event work, but the fact that the capability is there is incredible.
There's just so much value in that camera even today. We've kinda hit a point where there's a good chance you will still be able to get comparable images from it five years from now, because you can't really say there are tons of cameras released since that give you a significantly better image in the under $4000 price range and I don't know that we're going to see a huge leap in the next 5 years outside of more resolution that most of us have no need for.
Great camera and it's pretty funny how often I recommend it.

This is exactly why I was asking for the need for AF, because if not really, then 3x these with a lens each.
