  1. This looks quite interesting to me... The ONLY things that stopped me moving to Z6's for hybrid work last year, was the lack of 4k 60p 10 bit internal, so if an updated model gets this, anything else is a bonus and it will be one of the strongest contenders for me in 2021 along with Canon R6 and Fuji XH2. Happy days as far as I am concerned!
  2. Amen brother. For so many...too many, the glass always seems half empty and the focus is on what they have not been given. There is always going to be some kind of compromise whatever choices you make.
  3. Is it not a hybrid camera rather than a pure cine camera? For anything longer than clips at a wedding such as ceremonies & speeches, camcorder. Problem avoided. Never had an overheating issue at any wedding and most of mine are outdoors at 30 degrees C plus and sometimes over 40 here in SW France. And those are temps in the shade and humble XT3. If anything, it’s the operator that can overheat but ice sprays and a cold cloth around the neck plus hat and litres of cold water limit the issue! Who/what is this camera designed for? I see it as a hybrid. Ha, apparently this is a HOT topic 🥵 in the forum topic titles!
  4. And non-US prices, ouch! I suppose whatever the economic situation, people still find a way to buy stuff if they want it.
  5. Well it’s all interesting...but that is as far as I am going to go right now. And until Spring 2021. This year has been shit for work and if the remaining jobs go ahead, it’s still only max 25% turnover. This is the biggest decision maker at this time but for now, XT3 is all I can afford and need. The lack of both a dedicated stills/video switch is not so great for the hybrid wedding shooter and nor is the (lack of) ability to write video to the second card, both of which the XT4 can do. So I am going to sit on my backside, watch with interest what Sony bring out, see if Panny bring the mythical GH6 into being and my prime interest, see if Fuji can bring an XH2 to market by April latest next year. Plus the real world samples, tests and reviews of course.
  6. Hello! Couldn't give a crap about internal or external raw video or 8k or much grading. Tried f-log. Hated it. Tried HLG, ditto. Cooked up my own recipe for getting it 'right' in camera (or at 90% of where I want it to be) and the result is start in the morning and finish in the afternoon, export, upload, clients happy. This is exactly what I, the self-confessed not a 'serious filmmaker' wants and needs which is why I like and use Fuji over anything else. I'm not exactly dripping in cash, especially not this year, but could otherwise comfortably run to a S1H's or even Canon's new R5's if I felt those manufacturers offered what I want and need. But the simple fact is they are overkill for 'hybrid weddingographers' (TM) like myself. Partly what my post the other day about Pro-Mist filters was about. I'm not interested in sitting behind my PC all day long and so the more I can get out of in camera, the better. I like Nikon's colour. I like Olympus's colour. I like Panasonic and Canon and Leica and...Fuji offer me what I like most though regardless of cost and I'm even sticking with XT3 over XT4 as it suits my needs better. And this is where I think Nikon need to get off their arse and that is offering a product to a particular market whatever market that may be. Possibly Nikon's biggest problem at the moment is not so much what Nikon are not doing, but what Fuji, Canon and Panasonic are doing and Sony were doing. They are another that need to up their game. Having said that, they all keep leapfrogging each other in various ways from time to time. XT4 is quite popular now despite a few IBIS and AF wobbles. Once the R6 and R5 are launched, it will be yesterday's news. More innovation and differentiation and products that people actually want to use please!
  7. Actually I made this a while back just to get an idea during lock down and my nearest camera shop that stocks anything like this is a near 5 hour round trip: https://camerasize.com/compact/#800.408,772.408,795.786,814.815,ha,t I can hold my XT3 in my hands and having fondled a Z6 last October already know how that compares in principal but the S1 at the shop was behind glass and the guy working there too busy so I could only look...but it's considerably larger and as I work with 3 cameras (albeit one being on a monopod), it would add to be quite something...something I moved to Fuji to get away from. That's not a pop at the S1 by the way. I still like it and without Fuji would have been the strongest contender with the Z6.
  8. Yep, I'm one of those 99.5% and one of the principal reasons I moved to the Fuji X cameras when they first came out...along with liking a challenge as it was back then. It's the principle reason that put me off the Panny S1. With the lenses I'd use, it's too much chunk. Nikon's Z's are barely bigger than Fuji XT3/4 or Sony A7iii other than grip. Those S lenses are also a pretty decent size & weight. @Nikkor I wouldn't rather shoot with a cellphone over a 35mm camera, I just do because it's more convenient. I ALWAYS have my phone but have to choose to carry a camera. I've bought and sold too many compacts these last few years because I always end up using the phone. Maybe that's the answer for Nikon, - make a pro camera phone?!
  9. Before I became a Fuji user, I was a Nikon guy. When the Z6/7 was announced, I wobbled...but then righted myself after I read about the single card slot and no 4k 60p which I was already shooting in the XT3. I nearly had another wobble this last Winter after handling one because though it is a bit plasticky, I do like the ergos and the looks. But came to my senses again as it simply did not have the spec for me. I am a fan of the lenses though and would have gone for the 20mm, the 35mm and 85mm f1.8's and never wanted for anything more. I could have lived without the twin card slot safety net and if it had had 4k 60p, would have jumped on it. I hope they do get back on track and produce something special soon.
  10. I like Sigma. A lot. I liked the concept of the FP and I think it bodes well for an FP2 . The FP tempted me so much but the reality I knew was not going to meet my needs. I like their lenses. I personally find their fast primes a bit big but think the 18-35mm f1.8 is one of the greatest lenses ever made. It's just a superb thing for the price. I wish wish wish those APSC primes were available in Fuji X Mount however and came close to going with them recently but the adaptors required decided me against in the end. But I like them in principle and mainly hope they can bring a camera to market with few or no compromises. Looking forward to hearing what they have to say.
  11. Has the employee responsible for their most recent release been fired yet?

    Pro-Mist Filters

@MurtlandPhoto this is going to sound slightly disingenuous and I don't mean it to be, but YouTube compression etc and without 'before and after' it's impossible to judge. Despite this being a visual media, I'm more going on typed, "I tried the 1/8th and it was a bit weak but the 1/4 was perfect" x37 forum members/video channels. But as has been mentioned above, usually you just have to try these things yourself and see what floats yer boat!

    Pro-Mist Filters

@heart0less considered, watched comparison and other types of review and based on all factors, went with the Freewell twin pack at £200. As long as I don't have any lenses above 72mm filter thread, I'm good for the rest of my career! (I have a feeling that when Fuji do bring out the 50mm f1.0, I am going to want it to replace the Tamron 45mm f1.8 and it's going to have probably an 82mm filter thread...)

    Pro-Mist Filters

OK, maybe I'll do that some time soon...
  15. I'd like to see Olympus cameras and lenses continue to exist and be developed but think it's an utter fantasy that this will be the case. I hope I am proved wrong. But suspect not.

    Pro-Mist Filters

Makes sense @kye and see you had been somewhat busy in that linked post 😉 I decided to go spend some money...but not on any Black Pro Anything's but a set of Freewell ND variables to replace my cheap Gobe. I was going to get a 6-9 stop Polar Pro but 2 things stopped me. 1: I also need a 2-5 and having 2x Polar Pro was a bit cost-prohibitive. 2: I don't exist to provide Mr P. McKinnon with an income and wonder how much of the cost is because his scribble is on the box? Budget won't run to anything else this year but this twin pack made sense as the 2-5 is perfect for my Sigma which is primarily used indoors and the 6-9 is ideal for my Tamron 45mm f1.8 which is my principal outdoor lens. I'll keep researching these other filters though and the post-production option over the next few months.

    Pro-Mist Filters

Aaaargh, that thread was just getting interesting with some views on different strengths and types of Tiffen filters used but... OK, looks like a toss up between Black Pro-Mist or possibly Black Glimmer which according to the chart offers a bit less halation? Haze. Damn. That is a reminder and a half. I bought 2 spray cans of 'Fantasy FX' I think it's called a couple of years back and never once remembered to take them to a job. I just stuck a can in my camera bag. I appreciate there is no definitive answer to any of this stuff and never will be, but will look at a 1/4 option of each of these and see where that leads...

@heart0less thanks, I'll take a look. That second post is the video I watched!

    Pro-Mist Filters

Bit of a minefield to the uninitiated such as myself. Well not so much minefield but so many options! Black, white, glimmer, satin, strengths... I watched a video that had every single one side by side but it didn't help and if anything caused further confusion. They are not cheap so it's not a case of even getting some and trying them, so looking for any direct experience. I'm currently shooting *cough* weddings in an attempted *cough* 'cinematic' style. Define 'cinemantic'... Well for me, a slightly nostalgic, film-like look with shallow DOF but no over the top processing or anamorphic flares etc. Looks like it could have been shot on film stock, but wasn't. XT3, Fringer Pro, Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is my combo. I also use a variable ND in order that I can shoot wide open most of the time. I'm happy with my baked in straight out of camera look which is based on shooting; 4k 60p, DCI 17:9 crop, tweaked Classic Chrome (not Eterna), 400% dynamic range (so min 640 ISO), but of course that Sigma is very sharp, even with sharpness turned right down. I do very little post-processing partly for workflow/time reasons and partly because I don't need or want to, but I'd still like to develop an even more 'filmic/cinematic' look baked in hence my interest in filtration. So the specific question is who has used any of these Tiffen filters, which one's, why, experience, opinions etc...

    Fuji X-T4

Actually yes it would and it would splice in with the 40k 60p better!

    Fuji X-T4

I think we will get at least one more firmware upgrade to the XT3 but it will be the last (other than the lens related ones that pop up from time to time). Classic Neg and AF tweaks, but I'd reckon that's it. Fujifilm are probably just holding off to protect initial XT4 sales which is to be expected, so maybe late Summer? Just speculating...
  22. Well at the moment it doesn't as weddings have not been happening! However, it looks like my first of the year will be taking place at the end of this month and then a further 4 of what would normally be anything from 25-30. But I'll take 5...or even less if that's what there is. The good news is that 2021 should be busier and based on bookings, already is looking that way. Unless life throws another major issue at us which it could very well do...
  23. Answers as best I can... Re. Not using it going forward, I mean handheld use and sticking to the freestanding monopod I currently use. I prefer my work to have zero camera movement in it anyway. The Tamron is available in Europe for 350 euros. It is and remains part of my kit! Long GOP which is the only option recording internally DCI 4K 60p at I think 200mbs. My PC is around 4 year old gaming spec but overnight batch convert to pro res is no issue. It’s a less than 2 minute job. Sony FDR AX100 and yes, it is gain! It’s getting on a bit now and next year I will probably replace it with the Panasonic HC-X1500 or more likely, switch one of my XT3’s to that role if I get an XT4 or XH2. It’s not great in low light as none of these camcorders are but I use lighting so it reduces some of that issue. Nobody should ever base any kit decisions on any of Camera Conspiracies ‘tests’. I watch all his stuff...for fun, but he rarely has anything set up right. Take the colour issue as one thing. For all we know, he’s nudged the colour balance in the auto settings and doesn’t realise. Also, he’s shooting outside in super bright light, wide open with no ND, so super high shutter speeds. Just the tip of the iceberg... Regarding kit reviews in general, it’s a minefield. On one hand we have the unboxing type reviewers who just discuss specs and generally complain about issues that are almost always unfamiliarity and user issues. We then have those possibly on the payroll or have an opinion for financial reasons. There are people though I think who are competent and unbiased, people like Gordon at Camera Labs, Gerald Undone and a few others. And then there is simply individual tastes and likes so sometimes you just have to try stuff yourself and work it out which is what brought me to and made me stick with Fuji. I do not recognize maybe 9/10 of the issues that supposedly exist...
  24. A. Very good. I personally prefer it to anything native and am currently using Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 + Tamron 45mm f1.8. The Tamron is new and has only been used in testing so far and replaced the Canon ef 50mm f1.8 which was incredible considering the price (under £100 new) but the Tamron gives me OIS which the Canon didn't. Turns out I'm not going to use it going forward but hey ho, - the weight and balance of the Sigma and Tamron are quite similar so swapping them out feels about the same. B. Dunno and maybe a G9 or GX80/85 might be a better/alternative match to an S1? C. It's an utter pig on my machine running Premiere so I batch convert it to Pro Res overnight and problem solved. D. Depends... I use a dedicated 1" sensor Sony camcorder for longer stuff and never use my XT3 for more than a couple of minutes and usually, 10 second clips, plus I'm running it the whole time off a power bank welded on to my monopod where the camera lives. It basically trickle charges the battery all the time but the battery will still run down quicker than it can be charged but lasts me an entire day's shoot no problem with a single internal battery. I was going to 'upgrade' to an XT4 and whilst in some ways it would still be an upgrade, there isn't enough for me as my pure video/filming tool. As a hybrid, yes, more compelling, but I've made my bed and have 3x XT3's now, - 1 for video/filming and 2 for stills. For the money, around £900/euros, it's insane value and highly capable even at double the price. I could have gone S1/Z6, Canon or anything else, but for me there is nothing else comparable.
