That in itself is already another notch in the belt of marketing failure. The anticipation should be buzzing not moaning. It’s called hype and it’s up to a company and their marketing department to create that. Some would argue that in this day and age, it’s influencers that create hype and to an extent that is true, but my point is, as a company, you need to get them onboard from the start and the start is A. creating a genuinely great product and then B. getting that info out there. Panasonic Lumix don’t seem to be very good at playing that game and it’s almost as if they are not even aware that the game even exists. You add in the pricing and it suggests that whoever determines these things, lives in a bubble that is not quite reality. However, if I understand the spec sheet leak, the headline is 6k 60p Open Gate? That would/will indeed be something. Not ‘something enough’ to make me buy the thing at by the sounds of it, €4000, but at least something. For €4k I’d want an FX3 style body and the next gen S1H with all of the previous build quality and like @Andrew Reid suggests, the top LCD screen just because it is cool as fuck. The business/financial decision for me is purely: A. Is it more suited for my needs than my principal run & gun unit, my S9? God no, not even close. I would prefer to have full frame 6k 60p open gate over the 30p I currently have, but the compromises I’d need to make would be overwhelming detrimental. B. For my other needs, a pair of static’s, does the new camera have any merit over a pair of new or used S5ii’s? Again, nope. Is it therefore a failure as a new release camera? Time will tell, but for me personally it is at least a missed opportunity.

It’s all just a bit, well to be blunt, a bit fucking odd, what is going on on Planet Lumix right now.
-
Is that correct? If so, doesn’t interest me and much prefer my 640/4000 on the S5ii etc. The new camera at least has FF 60p instead of the crop and yes, I’d like that, but then again, I really like my 6k 30p OG which I have already.

Truth bomb and for me, it was the Tamron zoom's that swung it. I'm not really a big zoom fan, but the reality is, for my work, I just need them and the lighter and more compact the better and that is exactly what they are. I think for pure stills, then the Sony. For pure video use, then the Lumix. Hybrid, I could make a case for either, but again, for me, it's when the lens question is brought into the equation and that is where it tips heavily for me back to Sony. But then why I am interested in picking up the Sony 50-150mm f2 ASAP because surely that is quite big and quite heavy? Well yes it is, but not stupidly so and if it will allow me to lose a body and a couple of lenses and gain me something else in actually having and using it, then it makes sense. Yep. Also yep. Put an A7iv plus Tamron 28-75 against it, and I suspect very little difference in price on the used market today and as above, I'd give the nod to the Lumix/Sigma as a pure video tool, but as a hybrid or pure stills, then the Sony/Tamron. I think that is what it largely comes down to here, - use case. You could chuck the Nikon Z6iii with the Tamron 28-75 also into the mix and again, I think on pure video capability, the Lumix still gets the nod (mainly if 6k open gate is your thing) but probably pushes the budget up slightly it being a bit newer. Some might include Fuji, but for me that is something a little different. Canon RF I don't think really has the glass and everything seems to be priced higher. That's about the summary of it I fear. Had the cameras been a bit more 'pro' and innovative, then an argument could be made to justify 3.5k, but in this marketplace, I wouldn't drop that kind of money on them. But still waiting to see exactly what they are when launched, but I think we already know and there will be no surprise bombshells. Sadly, because I want to see them do well.

This is possibly the single biggest thing where Lumix could score a win and something most were hoping for, if not expecting. My own expectations were an identical body, but otherwise different sensor pairing of ‘S2R’ and ‘S2H’, the latter with internal ND and the former with a larger than 45mp sensor. But we have not got either and no sign of either and realistically, I think no hope of either based on recent and imminent models. Sony are about to pop out a new FX and a new Alpha any time and though I suspect they will not be groundbreaking either, will possibly be the new benchmarks at this 2.5-4k price point. And so much for the FX style body for the new Lumix’s. I’d like to have seen that as that at least would have been something…

Welcome to The Cool Club 👍 I wanted the orange one...and then realised that was a Nikon Zf option 🤪

That was my other dealbreaker. In fact the principal one as I need to shoot a lot in low light and even with OK lighting, my previous camcorder experiences including 1" sensor, was trash. I just could not go back now.

Once I got myself past the lack of pro features including; the build, the lack of any proper weather sealing, the single card slot (couldn't care less personally about the lack of an EVF as I never use one), as a super-light and compact full frame 6k 30p Open Gate camera, it made great sense. Especially on my super-lightweight freestanding monopod. If only I had not left that at a venue 700km away last weekend... I can't remember the exact weight but it's under 1.5kg total, - that is: body, half cage, lens, Rode Micro, super stable freestanding monopod. I can use it statically within seconds, walk away from it quite confidently (unless in a crowd) and use it in gimbal mode at a turn of a pre-programmed dial. For fast paced run & gun work, it's superb and has multiple frame markers for my 'films' and for my socials. The 'pro' features aside, I can't really fault it. And if they are now under 1k, like so much Lumix stuff, I think that is where and when they make most sense. Used S1H's are now ridiculously cheap and I WOULD still shoot with that as my main if they'd just update the firmware to allow me to burn in a LUT.

I have had this in and out of my shopping basket many MANY times but in the end have stuck with MILC. https://www.amazon.fr/Panasonic-Caméscope-Semi-Pro-HC-X2000E-Stabilisé/dp/B083SZZ5KR/ref=asc_df_B083SZZ5KR?mcid=232efbbab9903b8186ad70a336860e1b&tag=googshopfr-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=701550460967&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4438915473122340787&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9109877&hvtargid=pla-898734561985&psc=1&gad_source=1 But it would make a lot of sense for static duty. The deciding factor for me was mixing in and editing the footage alongside full-frame MILC and I'm a bit OCD in not liking that. Even using my drone footage triggers me but no realistic option on that one!

Agree. Mostly... It's that they 'appear' to be going backwards creatively as in terms of features compared with others (or others are catching up) and especially in design. I have never really cared for the Lumix f1.8 primes but have always respected them...and now own and use 3 of them! I'm one of those who is not bothered whether they make anything smaller or not because on an S9, realistically, unless they make them slower, how much smaller could they be and they are hardly big or heavy in the first place. Mostly the el cheapo 50mm f1.8 for 90% of the time.

This. Build hype by drip feeding interest over a period of time, each time highlighting strengths such as in this case, compact size. By doing this, you prevent unrealistic or totally wrong expectations regarding what is being released. And then, don’t release it with an f8 lens and expect anyone but paid shills to rejoice because you are only kidding yourself and allowing your already shaky reputation to plummet. I can imagine and think a lot of the criticism of this camera is unwarranted and it is being somewhat underrated. I think this is due to a couple of reasons. 1. As above, Lumix are terrible regarding marketing and managing expectations. It’s as if they don’t pay any attention or care about their customers and so no matter how good one of their products is, they are already on the back foot before it’s even unveiled. They need to address this. Unless it’s already too late. 2. It wasn’t a successor to the S1H. Here at least, - I’m not so sure what the wider world wanted but I’ve read a pretty overwhelming wish in a number of places for an ‘S2H’ above anything else. 3. I do think they got the naming wrong and therefore the expectation of this all wrong and it is an S5ii on steroids rather than a successor to the S1R. The S1 line was a bigger and better built ‘pro’ line of cameras. The S5 line is less than that. Don’t pretend something is other than what it is because people are not stupid and you will just piss them off and alienate them otherwise. 4. It is a very conservative design. As I have said before and stand by the sentiment and that is, I would buy this camera for what it is and what it can do, despite the furore and the fact that I don’t think it’s a true successor to the OG S1R. The only reason I have not and am unlikely ever to do so is because I already have something I consider at least equal, if not slightly better (Sony A7RV) for my needs and the lens options are in a whole other league. But I always come back to the same thing and that is Lumix’s managing and marketing just comes across to me as nieve at best, willfully destructive at worst. It’s like they are hell bent on reducing their 5% market share and that makes no sense.
-
That’s about the sum of it, at least regarding lenses. The f1.8 primes are decent and the 50mm f1.4 apart from the weight is stellar, but otherwise…
-
That would be and has been my approach and adding my own stamp to it.
-
Agree and just another example of the utter muppetry that is Lumix’s ‘marketing’.

That is where I am at with old Pannyboy. Moved over to them from Fuji as I felt I wanted to be in full frame rather than APSC for both stills and video. Initially continued with APSC video, albeit in L Mount flavour and in non-log before upping my game in that regard also. I feel I have now reached 'peak set up' for my video needs with L Mount and just about there on my stills needs with a combo of Sony & Nikon. I don't need Lumix/L Mount to develop any further. I would have liked to have seen them do so, but the signs are now that they have stagnated. Big time. The S9 was and is OK and works for my needs. I could make a case for the S1Rii, but it would be a sideways move. For video, lens-wise, I'm covered. For stills though, I have one last fairly big decision to make. Well not so much make as I have already made it and that is re. a specific lens and when that happens, it also makes sense to go over whole hog, to Sony/e-Mount for both stills and video. It could not work for me in the other direction ie, there are still big holes for me in the stills department with L Mount. So sorry Lumix, the writing is on the wall. My wall at least. Nothing wrong with what you are currently providing for me, but I doubt very much whether I will be with you beyond October of this year. And that is on you.

Panasonic Lumix S1ii Conclave edition

So I went on L Mount Rumours for a sneak peek. Boring, both cameras and lens. The comments section is hilarious: ”Why did they not make it a 24-60 f1.4 and sell it for $450?” Keep smoking that whatever you are smoking bro 😎

Yes, sorry, I read and was thinking S1H!

Action cam / 360 / GoPro etc. thread
MrSMW replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Gimbal / DJI / Drone / Action Cameras
The only time an action camera piqued my interest was when I came across that company with Bones in their name, who modified the things with cool little lenses. But then I realised I could get a small sensor such as the Sony RX100V. So did and that was the end of that. -
S1IIE? Sounds like one of those really bad, over-priced ‘private’ number plate that Brits with more money than sense, spend their money on. I think it’s supposed to read phonetically as SILLY?
-
I expect the next gen will cost more, but still, why would anyone either not buy that or a used OG FX3? It just seems like a waste of time to me, but hey, what do I know?! Of more interest will be what Lumix pops out in this niche because lenses aside, an L Mount ‘FX3’ sounds more interesting to me than a Sony FX3.
-
Why would anyone bother with that? As a potential customer, are you simply not going to carry on with what you have and wait for the next gen, rather than trade it in with a big fat chunk of depreciation for this mildest of updates? For anyone (like me) who avoided due to the rear screen, (or went for it but has it rigged up anyway so not an issue), surely you are not going to buy one? Maybe I am missing something but makes zero sense to me. It would make more sense to be able to send in your old unit and have it upgraded for a reasonable amount?
-
So other than some plug in stuff, the screen it deserved in the first place because all Sony cameras prior to the FX30 and A7RV have dog shit rear LCD's. I was actually going to go with a pair of A7CR's over my single unit A7RV but for a couple of things, the dealbreaker being those rear screens. So this is the mildest of updates at best hence the FX3A moniker though IMO they should have called it B and then everyone could refer to the OG as the 'A' model.
-
Oh and can someone buy Lumix a 2025 calendar because it’s May 😱
-
So an FX3 with a higher res screen.
