Canon rush to reassure investors as camera profits plunge 64%
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well, given Canons move into industrial applications (along with other companies) I think consumer ILCs are doomed. Maybe the DSLR revolution has run its course. Now it’s the camera phone next. People will start making films and documentaries on their phones. Brand recognition and loyalty combined with a massive lens library. -
Canon rush to reassure investors as camera profits plunge 64%

Not just Japan. The world. The next 50 years don't look particularly good. Exploding population, climate change, antibiotic resistances, society and technology. I think human kind will need a certain level of pain to change...so cheers. -
If only Panasonic would add PDAF in their next GH camera or ToF sensor (so excited for @BTM_Pix ToF gadget) they would have a killer almost no compromise camera.

Adobe shambles - Why subscription software should be illegal

I wish Apple would put some steady engineering into FCPX. The fact that you still have to use plugins and crap to get tracking and other useful features that have been in Premiere and Resolve for years. They just now added built-in noise reduction...this year. The performance of FCPX is great but the truly useful features that can cut editing time down are not there. Im still going back and forth on Resolve and FCPX. I just have so much muscle memory and workflow time in the later that it’s hard for me to switch. I love that Resolve has built In tracking and automatic face tracking with “beauty” controls. Makes it so much easier to smooth out and add that “pop” to faces. Must have features in 2019 (and features FCPX doesn’t have!!!) Reliable built in tracking with keyframing A.I. powered Object removal Customizable motion blur A.I. driven optical flow frame prediction and replacement -
He might find Canon’s RP up there.

This is the big problem I have with YouTube. It has morphed into a corporate shill machine without much objectivity. Gotta get those brand deals or they leave you out in the cold.

When you you see the “Fro” just say no. I honestly think we are seeing an acceleration in the camera industry when it comes to features. It still boggles my mind that a camera manufacturing hasn’t looked at the smartphone photography revolution and said, we need to innovate our processors and software to compete. I like the physical buttons on my camera. They are fast, and easy, and Mostly customizable in anyway I want. It’s a tool. It should be able to adapt to how I want to use it without having to look down at a screen or take it away from my eye. Blackmagic took a step the with the P4K with the large touch screen and slick UI and Internal ProRes and RAW. In the next 5 years, if camera companies do not embrace fast processors, easy HDR, and computational photography they will wither on the vine and be relegated to camera nerds like us.

The weebils 3kg is massively overstated.

Canon can release just about anything if it has: The Canon brand. Canon Dual pixel AF. Canon color science.

Loved the history in the beginning. I’m surprised Kodak had something that small back then. The original Pocket Camera!
-
No. It’ll be a $3,500 camera with 10bit internal recording and amazing eye AF...that’ll overheat and shutdown in less than 30 mins of continuous shooting. I mean that is the MO of how they do things. It won’t be until the A7Sm4 that we will get a useable A7Sm3. Hopefully by that time Panasonic (or @BTM_Pix) will sort their AF issues out and we can have our cake and eat it too.

With the overall positive reception of the S1 firmware update and the very pleasing image coming out of Panasonic’s new full frame camera, I’m thinking the S1H is going to be something special. The L-mount is building a lot of momentum with Sigmas fp and forthcoming glass and Panasonic’s usual firmware feature bonanza. Really quite impressed with Panasonic’s push here in a crowded full frame market and grim camera industry outlook.

Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@Mokara the S1 sensor is Sony but the S1R is Panasonic/TowerJazz. Panasonic’s 150Mbps codec is very well done. It has been discussed before at length in the GH5 thread but the difference between 150Mbps and the 400Mbps All-I are incredibly subtle in almost all cases. I wouldn’t worry about it. -
Most likely you will be better served with a GH5. It’s cheaper too. It’s the Swiss Army knife. GH5S on a gimbal, properly balanced, will be fairly smooth. I have noticed micro jitters with a crane plus I borrowed once. Warp stabilizer removed it and it looked super smooth.
-
Yeah, it’s pricey. Also it’s not battle tested in the field yet so might want to wait on it.
-
It’s not out yet, but the Peak design travel Tripod looks very nice if you are going to be lugging it around. Very slim profile and some nifty features.

Panasonic is developing a new TOF M43 sensor

So how does it measure? Dual pixel essential does the same thing with its dual phase detect design. -
Hey Nikon - Where's the Z6 ProRes RAW Update?
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
So how much latitude does ProRes Raw give you? I was under the impression white balance was still backed in. -
You forgot talent.
