  1. I'm also looking into the C70. I don't need it but no-fuss image, internal NDs and false colors/waveforms are attractive over say the R6 I've been using and the just released R3. Might also wait to see what comes in the pipeline in 2022. If Sony releases an FX3 style camera with internal ND I might consider that too although I would like to avoid having to lens mounts. Please Canon!
  2. I would hope a $30K-$60K camera would have a better image. Canon are rumored to have newer FF DGO sensors coming with improved dynamic range. Will be great to see FF, DGO, canon AF come together in a more compact camera like the size of a C70. With a fairly substantial reduced AF area. Kind of a bummer in my opinion.
  3. The the vast majority of the 250M budget of the latest 007 movie was spent on lighting, composition, blocking, camera movement, locations, sets. You could probably exchange the lens they used with almost any other lens and they would have shot great looking movie that would be completely ruined by 120hz “real motion” on some TV.
  4. If canon released an improved C70 styled FF DGO camera they would do very well for themselves. Especially if it is priced somewhat competitively and not $10,000.
  5. LOL, yeah all those countless documentaries I'e watched filmed on C100, C200, C300, FX9 and on and on were unwatchable with horrible fixed pattern PDAF noise.
  6. I love Panasonic, but they are missing a very important, yet still optional at a flick of a switch, feature. Hope they fix it.
  7. I'm interested in what they do behind the sensor to give us that Venice "cinema" look. Obviously that all secret sauce. The technology gap between Sony's prosumer cameras and these super high end is narrowing. Seems to be all in the processing.
  8. Hope they fix the telephoto camera. Seems unnecessarily gimped.
  9. Lofty price for sure. I'm not going to lie, but the dual camera system is pretty slick and makes me want one. 160mm zoom on a drone would make for some pretty dynamic shots. The original zoom was 24-48mm. I can't wait to see some footage from this thing.
  10. I would like to believe Nikon gave Atomos a giant middle finger by just putting ProRes RAW and ProRes HQ internal into the camera. If they continue this with a future Z6 camera I could see Nikon making inroads into the video space among professionals...maybe not as a A cam but as B cam and personal cameras. It certainly has me interested like never before in the future of the Z mount and Nikon cameras in general. I'm glad to see it.
  11. What else does the Cine model have for more than double the price besides ProRes?
  12. So is it the same sensor in the A1? The specs seem slightly different. 50.1 vs 52.4mp 1/240 readout speed vs 1/270
  13. How do you know this? Is it actually using a Sony Sensor or is it something from tower jazz?
  14. They could steal the show my releasing a better, faster, smaller 400mm f/2.8.
  15. Yes very impressive. I’m so glad they put some pro codecs in this camera as it kind of pushes mirrorless cameras as a whole in that direction. I’m not a Nikon user but I was cheering them on in the livestream. The future Z6 and Z7’s could be a step up as well. Not to mention many excellent Z system lenses and potential for more with very shallow, adaptable mount.
  16. Internal ProRes HQ and internal 12-bit RAW coming in firmware. Nikon is going all out with this for video it seems.
  17. For video, on an R6, the RF 24-105 is an excellent, versatile, and frankly underrated lens. Pair it with a cheaper RF STM f/1.8 prime for more flexibility (16mm, 35, 50, 85 depending on your needs).
  18. M1 Max looks like a pretty impressive chip. If it handles 8K RedCODE RAW (perhaps even multiple streams) without problems that would be amazing. Apple really pushing ProRes hard into the consumer spaces with it on iPhone and in non-technical keynotes. On a side note they also added a built-in ML tracker to Final Cut 10.6. It's not perfect but its pretty slick and easy to use.
  19. Looks like something from the Half-Life Combine Confederacy.
  20. Would rather skip wires altogether for consumer applications and have some kind integrated wireless audio standard (perhaps the upcoming bluetooth low energy audio standard). It would be great to have my camera record internal audio to card and also offer audio out/in via Bluetooth LE to a wireless lav (or even apple AirPods) that seamlessly connects to the camera after a one-time peering scheme. The person behind the camera can also use any bluetooth earbuds/headphones to monitor the audio. Low battery consumption, decent range within 10 meters, very convenient, widespread support. Pro applications will always need something more robust, of course. This is why cameras are so far behind the times when it comes to interfacing. Make it easy and people will come.

They also try to make a news story out of each specification line to try and milk a cameras release for as many "rumor" stories as possible for ad revenue. I wouldn't be surprised to see dramatic 60p "leak" in a few weeks.
  22. A few people will create videos in a new genre with this...perhaps, but the vast majority of the billion or more phones being sold will be used to make cheesy rack focus tiktok memes. Personally, the trend towards short social media content is disturbing. Spend 5 days straight swiping through instagram reels or tiktok and then step back. You will be less patient, dull, and be addicted to instant gratification. Shits toxic.
  23. Gordon Laing's video is the best. DPReview hardly told us anything. He shows samples of log video (un-graded) in clog3 and shows detailed 400% zoom chart tests to show detail in all the modes versus R5. It does look like the R3 is landing solidly in-between the R5 and A1 as far as quality and specs go. No 30 min record limit. Gordon got 6 hours of record time off external power source, 2h 12m off of internal battery shooting in 4K25p. With the new data hot shoe, IBIS, and DIS the R3 is shaping up to be a pretty capable video camera with plenty of room for R1 to flex. Also, setting white balance is now like all the other cameras. No more taking a picture and loading the white balance. Please bring this to R5!
  24. Never did I say you needed to buy an R5 or that even R5 was superior in anyway. Not sure what you are reading. Again, no I did not. I suggested today’s cameras and future ones will make external recorders less useful in the IQ department which is good because I don’t like the concept of external recorders at all and find latest internal codecs get me 95% or more there. I would welcome any smallish mirrorless camera with internal ProRes. Come on, like a codec is the only measure of the “organic look”. I think we both know it’s far more complicated (and subjective!) than that.
  25. In the real world, today, we have cameras with good features and good codecs that make external recorders less valuable if IQ is a big concern. Tomorrow, we will have better cameras with better codecs that make external recorders pretty bulky and not worth it. |--8Mbps H264-------------------------------150Mbps h264----480Mbps HEVC--1000Mbps ProRes--|
