  1. I really enjoy Media Division. I love how he deep dives into topics with history and backstory. His shooting style is easy going yet beautiful. He likes his Panasonic cameras too! I love to grab a cup of coffee and watch his stuff. He doesn’t post often though, which kinda, weirdly, makes things more enjoyable. Its like slow food, or slow travel, you just enjoy it more. even though YouTube demands quantity of quality.
  2. He makes jokes about it. I think pewdiepie is pretty self aware he makes all this money doing pretty stupid things. But yes, he is a multimillionaire with multiple houses around the world. At least one in Brighton and now one in Japan.
  3. Only if you choose to review gear like all the rest do.
  4. Agreed. But I’ve also watched a lot of things that have been motivating. It’s all about balance. Gear channels like potato jet work because we all like our gear. We like new things. Improved things. But it has gotten extremely stale for me as of late. Everybody on YouTube seems to morph into a brand because that’s the only way to make money. It’s all starting to blur for me. Everything is the same shit. And as much as Peter McKinnon or Matti think they are filmmakers or don’t want to be labeled as “influencers” they are in essence influencers that use their clout to peddle corporate products to their fans bases. Is it bad? Well, it’s the same as TV except even more successful. I don’t know why any corporations would spend so much on TV ads when YouTube ads and sponsored deals with select youtubers is cheaper and more effective. Im not going to by an EOS R from a TV ad. If I watched some sponsored video from a YouTuber (Matti for example; and yes Canon sponsored those videos by giving you a free camera!) I’ve chosen to watch, im much much more likely to buy It. Look at the launch of the Insta 360 R, peak design tripod, DJI Mavic whatever. It’s all the same corporate talking points on different sets. I think there is tremendous space left in YouTube for unique and engaging content with an original spin from people that aren’t brands, or have managers, or company logos.
  5. This. He also rents gear to other productions. The rest is sponsored deals.
  6. This video is a master class of how not to film yourself. When your too lazy to compose and frame your subject with your environment... I know it’s not cinema, it’s a YouTube video...but it was incredibly hard to watch and listen too. Hopefully Tony continues to use this style in 2020 ?
  7. My guess, based on the sensor, is it will offer 8K at 24p with OK quality. But probably hit it out of the park with stills image quality for MFT shooters. @androidlad any other MFT sensor tidbits or more specs for the IMX594CQR?
  8. Excited to finally get V4 for GH5S. Thanks for all the hard work.
  9. I would love a small device like this that takes or mounts a Samsung T5 or smaller SSD drive and I can feed an HDMI signal from my GH5S and get my ProRes. Mostly because the cost be GB on SSD is so much lower.
  10. Autel Evo 2 now sporting your choice of an 8K or a 1 inch sensor 6K camera on a drone with 40 minute flight times.
  11. Looking forward to your post about this camera. From the little amount of footage I have seen from it, it looks really good. Its a Leica with some Panasonic technology in it. Leica definitely got the better end of the stick in that partnership. Wish I had the money or knew someone that had one so I could at least play with it! Im sure If the A7SIII comes with 10-bit Slog with 4k60p with AF then it will be the de facto winner. Sony has tremendous momentum in the mirrorless space. Especially amoung influencers and vloggers, which lets be honest, sells cameras for Sony like nothing else. Im sure the 1DX Mk3 will be popular with everybody that has the mk2 and for Canon shooters looking to upgrade. It has all the goodies just in a DSLR body. Will be interesting to see where RED Komodo lands. Mr. McKinnon says he isn’t sponsored by Canon but he sure does get exclusive access and has done a lot of “partnerships” projects with them. Free gear is payment in my book.
  12. This is a solid offering from Canon. I will wait to see what the useable dynamic range is. Really surprised they offered internal RAW with DPAF at 24/30fps. Really the only downside of the RAW is the butt clenching file sizes, over 1Gbps...ouch. That's over 125MB/s. A $450 256GB CFExpress card will get you around 35 minutes of video. I think it might even be higher than 1Gbps.... EDIT: yeah, 5.5K RAW 60fps 2.6Gbps.
  13. Adorama just sent an e-mail out. $6499 in the states. This will be a very popular camera!
  14. This popped up on my feed. Fun to watch and then see the end result in the final movie. Share anymore you find.
  15. DJI is definitely going to release a FPV drone kit this year. Maybe after that we will get sub 249g FPV drones with decent cameras.
  16. The blood comet must pass over the super blood moon before such a thing shall come to pass.
  17. Could it be because the corners of the sensor actually moving more than the center when IBIS is correcting for horizontal panning motion and it’s made worst by the wide angle distortion. But I’m just guessing.
  18. Big note on the insta 360 One-R. It has a 1-inch sensor. So hopefully it’s 360 abilities will be well above their past 360 camera. I like the idea of it being modular. I’m just a bit worried about it’s survivability.
  19. If Olympus released a EM-1 Mark 3 with 10-bit 422 150Mbps longGOP 4K with PDAF and their excellent IBIS they would at least be on people’s radars for video. I’ve always wanted to mash the best from the GH5 and EM1 together into one MFT camera. I don’t even care if it’s called the OM-D EH-5 Mark 1.
  20. I think the only thing that will be disappointing to you with the GH5 is the autofocus. Its useable in certain situations but entirely unreliable. Levi Allen (search him on youtube) shoots many of his vlog stuff (I would recommend watching his Road to Alaska series) with the GH5 using the autofocus. It's good, but if you demand 95% accuracy, it won't give it to you (neither will the EOS R, really.) I would always recommend sticking with whatever you have, because you can make great stuff with it regardless. But as Mercer said above, the G9 is fantastic now with the new firmware and the Vlog-L upgrade. The autofocus is also much improved over the GH5 and the IBIS is absolutely excellent. It's was under 1K on B&H as well for the holiday but now its back to 1,200.
  21. Whatever card he buys the most important rating on it is the "V"(ideo) rating which specifies the minimum sustainable write speed, which as you can imagine, is very important for video. Cards that ha e 95MB/s or even 300MB/s ratings on them with no V30/60/90 rating are advertising the burst write speed. But yes, he should pick up UHS-II V60 cards from a name brand (ProGrade, Sony Tough, Sandisk).
  22. I’m also more and more impressed with the S1H. It has the balance between dynamic range, IBIS, internal recording options, and price. It has the tilt and angle screen... It’s clear from the images above, with a nice set of vintage lenses and some shooting skill you can achieve some very nice footage. I will probably end up getting one after my skills catch up with the price tag.
