Exactly my cup of tea. Random AF is rather frightening BTW, even though I concur makes some sense for gimbal use...

And here's some teaser to you ; -)

I do agree random auto focus would be kind of fruitless. Most auto focus is based around a certain area of the image(center or wherever you select). I do a lot of touch auto focusing on the fuji. Object tracking can be super useful though.

The Lens Turbo II's were fine in terms of resolution/sharpness and color for me... but they went downhill fast when shooting into bright lights or sun, or even just most moderately backlit subjects. Flaring and hazing galore. And the "blue dot" problem, while much better in the second gen models, would still pop up pretty frequently. At first I blamed it on the MDs being old and lacking modern coatings, but the Nikon version had all the same problems with modern Nikon glass.

10bit is nice, but at the time I was on a G85, and my choice was either go GH5 and stay frustrated on the photo side of things, or go A7III and be happy there and stay in roughly the same territory videowise, and be able to actually use 100% of my lenses without hassles.

Yeah its just something cool to have for me, not that I really need it. Already been investing in Fuji lenses. The Minolta with a simple adapter will still be useful for when I need manual focus, or just for a unique look.

  3. Really surprised by that comparison between the pocket 4k and GH5. It shows how much less dynamic range the GH5 has. Highlight recovery looked pretty amazing.

I mean most cameras look great when exposed and white balanced correctly. But this was a great stress test.

  4. There is a brand that does Fuji to Minolta but its kind of crappy one. The Lens Turbo II's are actually really nice, close to metabones quality at least from comparisons tests I've seen.

I don't love full frame enough to switch to Sony and lose out on 10bit. I guess I'll just go with a regular adapter.

Minolta lenses also need a corrective glass adapter to work with the EF mount.

Do you already own a lot of Minolta glass?

Yeah I really like my minolta lens lineup, enough where I'd just give up the focal reducer if it can't happen. What kind of corrective glass adapter are you talking about. I am unfamiliar with that term unfortunately. Total noob on this adapting glass stuff.

Yup should work fine for you. Just get a EOS speedbooster and adapt to that.

Do you think that will work better then Nikon? I own a couple Nikon lenses so it would be cool to have it for both. But if it would be problematic I'd just get the Canon as I want my minolta lenses adapted more.

  7. Basically I am looking to use a focal reducer to adapt my minolta lenses to my Fuji camera for a full frame field of view. Lens Turbo doesn't make any fuji to minolta mount speedboosters. I am wondering if its possible to buy one of their other speedboosters (canon ef, nikon, or c mount) and use an adapter to attach a minolta lens to it?

120P on X-T3 seems to be pixel-binned instead of line-skipped, it's a bit soft but aliasing artifact free.

TBH aliasing is a bigger deal to me then sharpness. The moire performance is also a big deal, moire can really ruin otherwise good shots.

    Maybe, maybe not.

The Panasonic cameras are really just announcements of things to come next year.

Sony may still surprise with an A7siii that slips in BEFORE the Panasonic cameras are actually released (if the Sony is coming at all that is)!

The issue for me with the Panasonic cameras is that unless you are a shareholder in Panasonic, these new cameras will be as alien to M43 users as Canon, Sony

or Nikon (actually for Canon even more so since Canon EF lenses can be adapted with near native AF at least for AFS).

Think about it, a set of M43 lenses will not work on these new cameras and I doubt the Leica L mount lenses will work anytime soon on a GH5 or other M43 camera

so you would need two sets of lenses if going with Pana FF and M43 but with Canon EF lenses you can go FF AND M43 (and Sony E can too and more).

These Pana/Leica/Sigma cameras will want to be light years better than anything else to be successful since for all but a very small number of people it means an entirely new and expensive system aimed at pros and high end users and a VERY expensive switch.            IF Sony puts out a A7siii, it will be usable along with all

the other Sony stuff right form release so unless they stuff it up big time, I would think it is going to be good (again, assuming it does actually arrive).

Choice is good and getting better but it is coming to the point there will be too MUCH choice for them all to survive.

I agree, they are pretty much a new player to some extent. I am pretty sure Sony will release an A7S3 very soon.

Thank you for the video ! I'm an early adopter and still user of the NX1, and have been waiting for a replacement, but haven't found anything to make me want to change yet.

I'm not a big fan of the texture and motion of this video personaly. I hate to use this expression because most of the time it doesn't mean much, but I found it to look very videoish - not filmic at all... I'm not sure about the dynamic range since the blacks are pretty crushed but the highlight rolloff intrigues me.

Would be happy to have the community opinion on this Fuji :)

Great day everyone, with hopefully very interesting revelations from Panasonic...

I agree, looks video'ish. But I think its more the production then the camera, but I'd say that about almost anything. For me the cinema look comes from professionals who have the knowledge and budget to make it happen. Glass definitely plays a part as well.

Sony is no more or less expensive than any other brand.

$1,500 - $2,500 is now the norm for flagship mirrorless bodies, whether MFT, APS-C or FF. The a7 III runs $2,000.

Since most on this website appear to favor using vintage glass or third party lenses with reasonably priced adapters, the cost of lenses is grossly exaggerated.

Tamron already makes a phenomenal 28-70, Sony’s 85mm is dirt cheap, the soon to be released 24mm is sharper, lighter and less expensive than the competition; and since the OP doesn’t mind manual focusing, the very modestly priced Voigtlanders are unsurpassed. Sigma’s ART lenses will all soon be available in E mount.

There are also countless E mount cinema lenses, from the highly praised Fuji MK zooms (super35) to the ridiculously inexpensive Rokinons. A kit of 3 Rokinon T 1.5 primes sells for just $1,200 - brand new!

I was more talking about the cost of an A7II, not sony in general.

I more dislike the size rather then the cost of full frame glass. I actually have full frame vintage lenses I use for manual focus. For quick shooting though its hard to beat the size of Fuji lenses. My F2 lenses are just a hair bigger then my M43 lenses.

  12. I really miss my GH5. I loved the size of the camera. Felt so good in the hands and the IBIS was quite good.

That said I am switching to Fuji. XT3 is going to be mine soon. The camera will be rigged up on a gimbal, monopod or shouldercam for serious work anyways.

I'd love to get into anamorphic shooting but its just to pricey atm.

  13. Yeah Cheap ND's and log don't mix well.

That guys 120fps video was shot at 200 shutter speed so that might account for the choppiness. Still wondering if the 120fps is 10bit????

Why do pros need the top display?

I am also curious to see what the XT30(XT20 step up) is going to have. Maybe less FPS for stills, no 120fps or log? If it has 10bit it seems like log would make sense though.
