On Monday I got a backorder status: still out of stock email from B&H. Then on Wednesday it shipped and it'll arrive on Monday. Preordered at the end of June.

I ordered (or preordered?) a DEC Vari-ND just now from the US Aputure store. Had to pick Paypal as the payment method to advance to checkout, but I think I could have switched to credit on the checkout page. I've been on shoots with the FS5 and the variable ND behind the lens is super handy.

I preordered from CVP at May 1st and it looks like there still are a couple of hundred people before me.

Didn't expect that.. Yes, the shadows on the Pocket 4K are way cleaner (almost no FPN either) but it seems to clip earlier as well.
So basically if you're doing ETTR you can't go wrong and make use of some great DR actually, just brighten up the shadows in post.

I'd say that's the way to go with this camera, yes.

The GH5s 120p is clearly line skipped.  Evidenced by the jaggies.  That's how it avoids cropping.    A crop at 120fps when you are getting smooth details is really spoilt rich man problems.

Agreed. 120 and 240 fps from the GH5s are unusable for fiction due to the skipped lines. A nice thing to toy with but less more.

  4. It shouldn't be overlooked as a big pro that the Pocket 4K is a video/cine dedicated camera. Honestly, when using a GH5 I'm bothered by all the photo menus and controls I won't ever need to use.

The P4K has got nice, beefy connections, a good menu and just the necessary buttons, I'm certainly will be more confident operating it than any hybrid camera.

I haven't watched any BMPCC4K footage yet. No videos, no test, no reviews, no nothing. All ive seen is the thumbnails in this thread. Never pressed play.
Because I was afraid it would spark an unbelievable case of G.A.S. And I was so proud of myself for canceling my preorder (was among the first in line).

Then I decided to download the tif-file above. Playing with it in Lightroom was ok. Feels like a decent image. Until you realize its a video frame... wow!
The quality is pretty darn crazy. The noise is.. not there. Mind officially blown.

You could have passed me your place in the line. ?

Maybe it is implied, but I think the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5k has equally good mojo and beats the OG Pocket in dynamic range, field of view and resolution and used, is less than the Pocket 4k.

I always thought the sensor was the same, and so was the dynamic range. The 2,5K was very good for getting a clean full HD with a OLPF filter. The sensor was 15.8mm wide, 3mm less than the Pocket 4K.

    Looks good to me.
(one scene showed some aliasing though)

    Very nice.

I recall when I first saw footage from the OG pocket... I thought, "it has mojo". I don't really get this vibe from the new camera. It feels like something I have seen before... not something original. It feels well, sort of Panasonic. Maybe my opinion will change, once more footage gets out there. But for now, there is nothing to make this stand out from the crowd. Yes it shoots raw... which is important... if you fukc'd up the exposure. Other than that....?

I love the image coming off the C200, but it is a 7500$ camera.

The Pocket 4K is a 1000$ cinema camera, with Resolve, a beefy 19mm wide sensor, very nice codecs, TC, mini canon, full HDMI, and it's small and has nice color, latitude and sensitivity. For me, doing mainly fiction work, is a no brainer.

    That looks great !

Will be interesting to see someone try this sort of film look on the new camera, so far nothing looks close to this.

Can you tell a bit about the gear used? Rig,lenses?

Nothing fancy, a lumix 12-35, an hoya variND a zacuto loupe and a Rhode mic.
