  1. No surprise, Youtubers generally have a pretty low IQ and shill out. This guy armando ferreira posted some crap with the eos r a bit ago. I had the eos r for 3 weeks and did many controlled tests between the 1dx ii. I stated that my results found that the iso performance looked to be about half of the 1dx once you get past 6,000. 6,000 iso on the eos r looked extremely close to 12,800 on the 1dx ii. He said that the eos r has much better low light iso... that's when I knew he was full of crap, but it gets better. He also said since it has clog, that it destroys the 1dx ii in dynamic range; well, I checked and posted that professional tests done with software at cinema5d show 10.7 stops dynamic range on eos r with clog and 11 stops dynamic range on the 1dx ii lol. He posted on twitter "Yeah man C-Log gives you the best dynamic range and it makes a big difference in video. That's actually why I sold the 1DX I never understood why Canon never added it but probably because the 1DX doesn't have good DR to begin with?" Hahaha he thinks that they didn't put clog in the 1dx ii because canon thought the sensor didn't have good enough DR?! ? It was done to protect the cinema line, 1DC had it. His buddy potato jet also shills super hard for any new canon gear, in hopes that he will also get invited to hawaii one day. Most of you saw his rigged videos where he shot the canon 1080p stuff in super 35 mode, which has been confirmed by canon to be supersampling, so it is insanely good. Then goes to say that there is zero difference between the 1080p image and 4k (he softened the 4k img in post). Not to mention they shot super 35 1080p in the canon and compared it to the a7iii 1080, claiming it was the ff eos r footage. Sony a7iii has soft s35 1080 and doesn't perform as good in slog 3 vs slog 2, so that's what they shot in. Yes, also shoot 8 bit slog 3 in low light and tell the sheep that sony footage is junk and falls apart without being pushed. Just a heads up to you guys, they are very deceitful and ignore facts to push their shill agenda. Seems that is all most youtubers are, !@#$%! for auction lol. Should have gone to college.
  2. Can you turn the sharpness down in the "pro" mode?
  3. What I mean is; I always see footage jump in and out of focus extremely fast. Not racking speed. My a6500 was the worst i've ever seen. The a7iii looks to be better, but still does it. Ruins the footage for me, I would just use manual focus to avoid it. I never have that on the 1dx ii, but saw it a little on the eos r, not bad though.
  4. IF you can turn off the digital over sharpening. They probably will let you eventually, cinelike was coming they said
  5. It's also around 26mm ff equivalent, too close imo for someone vlogging, without all those accessories attached to get it far enough away. So then it isn't a pocket device anymore. They should have done something between 20-24mm
  6. webrunner likes it, seems to fit what he wants to do. Just not for some of us until they fix/change some things. I personally would rather have a main cam, cell phone and gopro on vacation. The gopro is waterproof and less likely to get broken. I will take my phone out for a quick 4k video that will look the same as that osmo pocket. Then use a main camera with great optics for a better picture when I want that. I want that HDR video in the new iphone xs put into a FF mirrorless. Taking 60p video and converting it to 30p with 2 exposures, looks amazing. Too bad they didn't do that with this little thing or the mavic 2.
  7. That jumpy, sharp focus crap on every non dpaf camera is why i'll stick to canon, until other companies get smooth video AF
  8. Yeah, but most shots with new phones coming out that have OIS + good digital IS are getting damn good. The hero 7 hypersmooth is where its going, it will eventually get better in low light. They have the resolution to sacrifice with 4k. If you are running and walking like an ogre, then yes, a gimbal will always be much better, but normal shots are fine. They should have made this with a 1" sensor
  9. Pre-ordered one, but canceled it after watching a bunch of test footage: Can't turn off digital over sharpening? Terrible autofocus, maybe update can fix it but idk Internal battery Not weather resistant without huge case Need to buy $100 "expansion kit" to get full use of it. That's not including the 35mm mic jack adapter which will probably be $60. No thread to mount on tripod etc. without accessories. You will probably spend $500. Cell phone footage on phones like the Iphone XS with their 4k HDR video look a ton better, I bet many android phones will do that in 2019.
  10. Can you turn the sharpness down? It is extremely over sharpened, like the original mavic pro. I noticed in 2 peoples videos that the face tracking was working for the gimbal head, but not focus sometimes. I wonder if it doesn't have enough processing power to do it perfectly? With a tiny xy mic and an nd filter, it could be pretty cool for quick shots when you don't want to draw attention or setup a big rig. Too bad they didn't make one with the rx100 sensor, maybe in the future.
  11. Sam has a few videos with the xt3 on his channel.
  12. Thanks for the help. I did some quick research and my math came out to 1.44x when comparing the sensor width to the S35 film width, didn't know if it was right haha.
  13. Sorry I didnt clarify great: I was just trying to figure this out to compare with movies I like. I know most were shot on 35mm film cameras (Panavision etc.). Havent had enough time to research the fov and everything to compare. I wanted to see what the widest I can go on FF & my 4k crop mode without exceeding the 35mm film at 18mm. That is probably around 24mm max width on FF? I saw many were mostly shot between 18-30mm in S35.
  14. I swear I did something wrong when I cross check. From what I gathered, it seems to be around 1.6x crop from Super 35 to FF. People said 1.34x crop on 1DX ii 4k, but I tested it and found it to be 1.29-1.30x. I converted the Super 35 focal's to FF at 1.6x, then I converted S35 to 4K crop (x)(1.3). When I cross check the 2 charts (28.8/23.4) I get a 1.23x ratio? To get a 1.3x ratio, I can take the 18mm S35 equivalent of 28.8 & divide by 1.3x to get 22.1mm for the S35 equivalent which checks out (28.8/22.1=1.3). For whatever reason, I am not wrapping my head around this haha. I feel like 22.1mm should be the correct 18mm equivalent of 35mm if I am shooting in Canon 1DX ii 4k 1.3x crop mode. It can't be 23.4mm equivalent right? (Tested) 4k to FF Ratio: 22(22.5?)mm 4k = 29mm FF. 4K to FF Ratio seems to be 1.29x Super35 to FF (1.6x) 18mm = 28.8mm FF 21mm = 33.6mm FF 25mm = 40mm FF 30mm = 48mm FF 35mm = 56mm FF 40mm = 64mm FF 45mm = 72mm FF 50mm = 80mm FF 53.1mm = 85mm FF Super35 to 4K (Canon 1DX)(1.3x) 18mm = 23.4mm 21mm = 27.3mm 25mm = 32.5mm 30mm = 39mm 35mm = 45.5mm 40mm = 52mm 45mm = 58.5mm 50mm = 65mm 65.38mm = 85mm
  15. The a7iii does focus in 120p pretty sure, I was referring to the "pocket cameras", rx100 v etc. I was interested in one, but I read that the focus goes pretty numb in 120p, not sure if that is true. Saw andrew mention something of it a long time ago, but can't remember if that was the rx100 iv that had problems in 120p
  16. xt3 has varying crops depending on if you are shooting in 4k 60 or 120p 1080p. I just don't care for a wide angle look at around f/4 (FF equivalent) personally. Hopefully they will update their faster primes soon, but that isn't what I saw on a "roadmap". I just want a smaller camera with 10 bit; I would not be surprised if canon & sony do not put any form of 10 bit in theirs for 2 years.
  17. Could be, but I see them switch between a 5D and the m50 for different angles. Should be the same grade. It doesn't seem terrible, just more simple. I want canon to release a new g7x with 120p & 4k. That would be an awesome pocket camera, I heard the sony ones don't really focus well in their slow motion?
  18. I keep wanting to get this camera because of the awesome 4k image it can produce, but I can't get over the available lenses. I want to use their 16mm 1.4, 23mm 1.4 etc.. but they are loud and have bad AF performance in video from the hours of test/review videos I have seen. Supposedly the newer f2 versions work better, but who wants to buy primes that are equivalent to f/3-3.8 (depending on shooting mode)??. Might as well just use a zoom, but they are also quite slow. Why doesn't fuji update their faster primes? Too bad sigma doesn't make lenses for them, you could get some 1.4's under $400, instead of old, slow, loud $1,000+ apsc lenses by fuji.
  19. I see a lot of YT videos of people using the m50 in 1080 & their skin always looks flat, lacking depth or something. Maybe it's the IPB? I shot 4k IPB on the Eos R in NYC and 1080p 60p in ALL-I; the 1080p looked so bad imo. The 4k on the Eos R looked really good, except I saw my copy had a few large white hot pixels. I bet the next version of their APS-C will have DPAF, but it will still have an additional crop in 4k. I hope they try to compete with Fuji/Sony, but they seem to just do their own thing since the majority of their segmentation will buy whatever the hell they put out there.
  20. Full screen looks fine, theatre mode at any size looks like no aliasing is present. I usually don't add any sharpening because its 4k and looks sharp enough; I read something that said youtubes conversion can make jaggies if you added sharpening in post. I don't like unsharp mask, but I used a tiny bit in an older video with no problems, this time I just did +8 sharpening, it honestly didn't look much different even zoomed in.
  21. Uploaded a 4k video, it was shot at 0 sharpness, I added just +8 in premiere. h.264 looks amazing, it looked fine last night after it uploaded to private. Now today when I view it in the browser on anything but fullscreen, it looks like over sharpened garbage. Looks fine on my phone at 1440p. Does their compression do something weird, or add sharpening? It could be their media player in a non-fullscreen mode idk. I have only had this happen on their player when you smash a 4k video into a very small size, this is something new. My other 4K videos havent had this issue.
  22. Reviewing my footage from NY with the Eos R, I found 2 huge white hot pixels in all the footage. I was shooting in 4k; didn't notice it in photos. That is a deal breaker for this body for me, its going back. Has anyone else had this problem with theirs?
  23. Ok, so here is my opinion on it after having used it for awhile on a trip to NY: It feels great with a native lens, it is nice to carry around vs a big dslr. It feels pretty solid still. 24-105 f/4 lens: I thought this could be a perfect lens for travelling given its focal range/IS and reviewers said it was very sharp. I found some big issues with it (unlikely camera but who knows). I took a bunch of pictures overlooking the city in the trade tower, expecting to crop in with 30mp and have decent results. I don't think the IS in this lens is very good, I was at around 50mm for some shots, f/4-f/10 and 100 shutter speed(even 160 shutter was the same) with the "5 stop" IS on. All the images taken with this lens were not impressive IMO, slightly blurry when scaled to 1:1. I had much better results with my 1DX ii with no IS at 50mm and the same settings. No idea if it is something with this camera, I think something is off with it or the lens. Also, it does not detect pan/tilt, so it will stick and jump in video. Huge focusing issue: In video or stills mode, sometimes it will randomly go into a freezing type mode where your on screen info is gone and you cannot change your focusing point. After 4-10 seconds, all the info comes back on the screen and you can change your focusing point. I called Canon and they had me do a bunch of stuff and it didn't change anything, I think its the processor is too slow or the software is not optimized properly. This happens when no pictures have been taken, or video recording as well. I also tried using the EVF and using my finger to change the focusing point, it was way too slow and unresponsive to use in any sort of pro situation, total joke. Flip Screen: I honestly don't like it as much as just a tilt. Especially if you are in an area where someone could walk by and hit the screen and rip it off. I don't like using it flipped out personally, I like it centered with the camera. Battery: It lasted as long as my 1DX battery, I was surprised. I kept the screen on most of the time and took videos/photos non stop and it ran like a champ. Switching Modes: Before flying out to NY, I tested switching between photo and video. It didn't seem like a deal breaker, but having used it in situations where I needed to do it fairly quick before moving, it was very annoying. The big issue with the 4k crop is you cant just hit that record button either, it's hard to gauge where it's going to crop in when you are taking pictures. There were some higher stress situations to get the shot where hitting mode>info>ok/shutter then back made me miss stuff I would have got on a different camera. Andrew was right on this one. 4k: It honestly looks very good, I was blown away with how good it actually looked. It does suck though in a lot of ways. That crop + a longer lens like 105mm stabilized is pretty much unusable handheld. The jello effect with the RS is a killer, on other cameras at 200mm etc. I could stabilized it in post, you can't with this RS. 1080p: It just looks like any canon 1080p, but with the lens IS and the 1st level of digital IS, it looks like gimbal footage walking around. You could tell some cool stories with that combo. Low Light (ISO): I mentioned it in this thread before, but I tested the EOS R vs the 1DX ii and found that the 1DX performed twice as well in video ISO. This wasn't surprising, but it wasn't worse than I had expected. I think it is fine for most situations. Adapted Lenses: They honestly all worked perfectly for me in photo and video. Banding: It isn't that bad when shooting outdoors, I found that you can get issues with it under artificial lighting much easier. For the majority of what I have done, it would be fine. Final Thoughts: I think that Canon is getting close to a very good camera. The RF system will be awesome by next year, I just personally found too many deal breakers for how I use a camera to keep this one. I feel that it is a good beginner camera; for someone who would have purchased a 6D. They should remove the top screen no one looks at and put a few buttons found on the 5D. At this moment, I can get way better quality out of using my 1DX ii. I can't wait for a mirrorless version of the 1DX, or an updated 5D.
  24. I just used it in NYC for 3 days doing photo & video. I found some wonderful things, and some annoying things. I will post a tiny review when I get some time.
  25. Update after testing photos indoors with artificial lighting: Photo wise, I didn't see that much banding outside with natural light (just colors introducing); I did see a ton indoors, it was pretty noticeable at just +.90 exposure.
