  1. I'm not sure about the other things you're asking about, but I was talking to the guys behind the Leeming LUT (http://www.leeminglutone.com/) about these settings. Here's what they said: "Highlight shadow should stay at 0. Setting them otherwise actually causes artifacts and isn't recommended." Also, before we could get Cine-D on the GX80, they said this, so I assume now we have Cine-D, it's even more reliable: "The GH5 Cine-D LUT will work on your GX80 without issue. Use the same setup guide as the GH5 as much as possible and you'll be golden. Just change sharpness to the value you like, or -3 as a default." Also going by their info, you should ETTR, get the histogram heavy on the right, without clipping. Check it out on their website http://www.leeminglutone.com/.
  2. Isnt that over powered - and does that matter? The GX80 battery is 7.2v and that one is 8.4V
  3. Hey guys, Since so many people here appear to be using GX cameras, does anyone know of a way to power them through a usb? When I plug my camera in, it asks to be turned off to charge. So trying to shoot a time lapse or something on the battery is very limiting. Is there an adapter somewhere that lets you plug into a mains supply?
  4. I get ya, I meant how the 'Normal' setting for a Spotify stream is 96kbit/s. I guess that only adds to the point though. The digital recordings may be better, but the delivery format doesn't necessarily represent that. Much the same as an 8k recording is better, but the delivery format may not be 8k.
  5. But by going from vinyl to CD and then online, lots of quality has been lost. People mostly listen to vinyl for the quality of the playback - or so they say. I look at it this way, quality was lost going from film (vinyl) to digital (CD/online) but audio has continued to get worse for the average listener, while the resolution race is constantly making video 'better'. 8K is more than enough, but since when was that ever a problem? When you make a film, do you shoot just enough to edit, or do you shoot more than enough? When you cook a meal for friends, is it not better to have some leftovers? You can't cut a piece of string longer, so best to start off with more than you need.
  6. I'm a freelance editor. I make a TV show every week and it's guaranteed work 5 days a week for as long as I want it. I also do camera jobs most weeks, or weekends. So long as I meet the deadlines on the TV show, they're flexible, and don't mind me taking the work home where necessary. That also accommodates more jobs that pay higher mid-week. Since the editing is guaranteed work, I don't charge as much as I do for 1 off jobs, but it gives me a steady income I can count on, which is many ways is more valuable as a freelancer. I also have a good accountant friend who helps me get some nice breaks. He advises me when I should stop buying gear, and when I should buy more to make my company look more successful. I don't know how or what he's doing, but he's basically told me that since I'm a 1 man company, if I invest x-amount every year on equipment, research material and things like that, the government don't take so much at the end of the tax year. I'm not a numbers kind of guy, but it seems to be working out for me. Like the other post here says though, I do have holes in my shoes and I cut my own hair haha.
  7. Ah cool, have been following both projects. enjoy the holiday!
  8. It does work on 1.2 firmware. Once it's loaded, you can save it to C or save it as the custom Photo Style (press disp. once you've fine tuned the settings), either way, you don't need to re-do it every time you turn the camera on. You'll konw if it's worked because the name of the Photo Style will be blank, where others say 'Standard' 'Vivid' etc. BTM_Pix - I just saw a thread about focus ramping time lapses: As it's also done through a browser, is there a way to include that option into this html. file? Then all these sweet tweaks will be in one place. I know nothing about how you're doing what you're doing, otherwise I'd give it a go myself haha
  9. Along the same lines, you could also try one of these. www.lectrosonics.com/US/PDR/product.html
  10. Wow that sucks, can’t you go to Metabones and get them to sort it out, your right, market leaders should deliver quality products. I’ve found one of these on eBay from the manufacturer. My camera and lenses are listed as compatible, so I’ve put in an offer. It says 8 days shipping, and they have a 30 day returns policy, so hopefully I’ve got nothing to lose. Once it’s arrived and I’ve had a play with it, I’ll post back. I can also do some comparisons with the Metabones, but I would assume if this can control the aperture, there will be no difference.
  11. Hey all, While looking to buy a second metabones for my b-cam, I came across this: https://www.amazon.com/FOTOMIX-EF-M4-AF-II-Panasonic/dp/B071V5B5PM?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B071V5B5PM&pd_rd_r=GT3M11BDKY2PSXM6B0WQ&pd_rd_w=SYidk&pd_rd_wg=S6jGH&psc=1 I know this one isn't a speedbooster, but the metabones on my a-cam isn't a speedbooster either, so it's not like I'll miss that functionality. I also don't need autofocus, although this does say it works, I'm hesitant to trust it.. For me, as long as it can control the aperture, I'm golden. At that price, I feel like there must be a catch, but have never looked into metabones alternatives, so don't know what to look out for. What are your feelings on an alternative that's so cheap?
  12. Amazingly, this video is how I found this thread and this 'hack' (is it a hack?) When looking to buy the GX80 I of course watched a million and one videos about it, from it, with it, through it, around it, and basically anywhere near it. After buying, I stopped searching, but then this came up in my suggested videos the day I got home from a lovely holiday, it was a great 'welcome home' present!
  13. Like I said, happy to be proven wrong haha! Thanks for the info, will check it out when I get home. Aside from RAW and internal prores, it's starting to look like the GX80 is the 4k pocketcam that Blackmagic never delivered.
  14. What's the 'Options Available' part? I don't have my camera on me to check it out. From what I've read, VLOG is a stretch, but I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. Over on this topic, there's been some matching to RED going on, but no settings/'hacks' have been revealed just yet:
  15. Thanks so much for this BTM_Pix! For those interested, the LeemingLUT for GH5's CineLine D should work with this. I was recently mailing them about the GX80/85 and was told they're more or less the same when it comes to using LUTs. BTM_Pix, would you be able to put the updated HTML files in the first post, to avoid scrolling through the who thread to find latest versions? I'm also having trouble finding the info about the different hue settings, so if it's not too much trouble, a little 'release log' our outline of new features would be really great! Again though, thank you so much for finding this and sharing it with everyone!
