@Tiago Rosa-Rosso Thanks for the intelligent, conversation inducing response. Yes perhaps they are Hollywood directors - but when someone says Hollywood to me, I wouldn't think of 'Birdman' or 'Shape of Water'. Maybe I meant they're not Hollywood because they're making original movies while everyone else is on a remake trip. If you watch the trailer for 'Roma', it certainly doesn't scream Hollywood. Then again, I'm probably wrong there too looking at other recent winners. Another thing with Cannes is a lot of movies go there to find a distributer. If you make a film that's on Netflix, you already have a distributer, so the festival only serves as publicity. The shame is though, there wasn't all that many exciting movies in Cannes this year, which may or may not be a result. If memory serves, there wasn't a single English language film in the competition. Not to say foreign language movies aren't exciting, but it does seem worth mentioning. Also, I think there's some issue with Sony at Cannes too, and no Sony Pictures are shown at the festival at all - I don't know why though. Jacques Audiard, who won the Palm D'or in Cannes a few years ago, has also said he has no interest in playing his films in Cannes anymore, at least in the competition. If one of France's biggest directors, and a pervious award winner isn't interested in the festival, I think that says something about the future of it. He's also uninterested in any type of film competition, so it's not just Cannes that he's opposing. I think it would be amazing for a Netflix movie to be nominated let alone win the golden man if for no other reason than to shake things up a little. I don't think they're any different from say Universal, they just don't distribute the finished cut in the same way. Are the Academy judging the movie or the screen they watch it on?

Alfonso Cuaron just won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival. Previous winners of this award and others in Venice have gone on to take home the Oscar in their category. Should this movie go on to win the Academy Award, it'll be the very first film made for streaming to do so, kicking off a new chapter in movie making. It's also a bit of an F YOU to Cannes - who banned Netflix movies this year - possibly marking the change in the roll of Film Festivals too. Exciting times. On a side note, 4 of the last 5 Best Director Oscars have been Mexican. Cuaron, Inarritu x2 and Del Toro. Is Hollywood snubbing Hollywood directors?

Totally, didn't mean to offend. I was just surprised by what appears to be a knee jerk reaction. What I mean is, if I'm looking for reviews and see you or Bloom didn't review it, I'd just find someone who has, not look into the reasons why, or try to find out if you were planning a review soon. Anyway, I'll stop digging this hole. No offense or harm meant at all.
-
If people don't buy this camera just because Andrew canceled his order and don't review it - then I'll be shocked. There will be thousands of reviews the day it's released. They may or may not be as honest and thorough as Mr. Reid's, but they will give a good enough picture of the product. I guarantee Philip Bloom will do a 45 minute or more video before the year is out. If I want to buy something that's worth reading a review about, I don't really care who DIDN'T review it.

I doubt it was a personal thing. Who knows who else was on the guest list, and how many deserving people were left off? BMD don't know you live half an hour away, and also won't notice the loss of one sale as a result of your cancelation.
-
Yeah, BMD say that date has nothing to do with them. They're still aiming for Sept release. The B&H date is for any orders placed now.

The Viltrox EF-M2 has issues with my LS300 though. The connections aren't right and keeps disconnecting the lens. Works like a charm on my GX80 though. Metabones non booster to EF works on the LS. Im hoping it works on the pocket, but only time will tell. Speaking of time... Is IBC the generally accepted release expectation. BMD have said they have an announcement about this cam at IBC, and they've also said in the last week that they're still aiming for a Sept release. so I think they'll either release it at IBC, or reveal the final, fixed date.

This is on the article I posted: "Either side of the lens are two mic housings which are home to four microphones, tuned for vocal pick-up." "The BMPCC4K also has quiet audio circuits and a built in mini XLR, something that no alternative mirrorless camera has unless you purchase a costly add on device...." But yeah, very little to go on for now.

Quite a nice hands on review on the usability of the camera: https://www.redsharknews.com/production/item/5766-we-ve-tried-the-blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera-4k-here-s-all-you-need-to-know Raw DNG untouched 4000iso: 100% crop:

I just wish there was 720p. ? Is 8bit really going to change your turnaround time all that much?

Haha, I quoted from your quote I guess.

@Bioskop.Inc The sun will always be blown, that's hardly a choice. The choice was to try to save the detail in the clouds. Having not seen the original files and making this up as I go along. I would have just lifted the shadows and left the sky totally blown out. I think it would have looked a lot nicer and still give the model some detail against the strong light.

I'm keen to know if the Ronin S can control the focus of the P4K. Does anyone know? I love the proof of authenticity at the end of that clip, hilarious... but what about this? Tried too hard to rescue the sky in post?

I posted it before, but this might help. https://youtu.be/hWZ-wlikEnE

Well I stand corrected. And that's brilliant!

I'm skeptical. BMD are being so secretive about this camera and people like John have only had it for a little while to film very specific clips. Why would they send it to a Youtuber to film a day at the zoo? Then why would they not share that footage themselves on their own channel like all of the rest? The user offers no proof that they've used the camera, other than a set of recording details and a story laid out the same as BMD's descriptions. I can make a video and say it's made with this camera too and it seems like a good way to get views. Jus' Sayn'

Thanks man, I thought so, but since I couldn't find it written so clearly, I wasn't sure. Could have been Twixtored or something haha. Looks pretty sweet for windowed HD, the cameras I've used that do that for 120fps gave a mushy, ugly image. Not here though, whoop. EDIT: To save searching for the link, you can download the first set of RAW DNGs here. They're from the 'Mountain Bike' video. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera/gallery

The \Mountain Bike' video also has some 120fps clips right? Or are the 60fps but then slowed a bit more than playing back at 30fps? Either way, looks great!

Where did you find the price? I skimmed the thread, but can't find much mention.

'Bugs' Peter Nearhos talks about using the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and the Laowa probe lens for the first time. ‘Bugs’ is a unique project where Peter could try out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K in the world of macro filmmaking. “This was the first time I had shot with the Laowa probe or the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The great thing about the probe is it will cover all of the 4K sensor. Larger 4K sensors tend to play havoc with your depth of field with this sort of work. So the smaller micro four thirds sized 4K sensor used by Blackmagic Design, is much better for this kind of shooting.” “I have to say the 13 stops of latitude was also really great, because you can see into all of the dark spots. Which is very good when you are using hard lights, because you have detail well into the shadows under leaves and things. The other great thing about this camera is the really high native ISO. I tended to stay around ISO 2500 but you can go as high as 25,600. There are other cameras with insane ISO levels, but they become incredibly grainy which means a lot of work in post. I think Blackmagic have their ISO at a sensible level. Given that for most macro filming you will be using lights, the 25,600 ISO with this camera is all you’ll ever need.” Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K ProRes 422 HQ ISO 2500 Laowa Probe 24mm, 60mm Macro 2:1, 15mm Wide Macro 1:1, 25mm Ultra Macro 5:1 EF mount, Canon 100mm 1:1, 65mm f/2.8 5:1 EF mount.. Actually, he didn't. According to the files that we can now download, 'Close Up Night' was 192 deg and 'Walking Day' was 215 deg. @John Brawley do you know / remember if that's correct? Also, that's what I thought about the audio.
-
If these are camera files, why is the 'Nature' footage, which was supposedly shot in RAW actually a ProRes file? I also notice there's no audio on the clips. Were the mics turned off or have these files been adjusted for the downloads? Grant made so many comments about the built in audio, but has given little info away on it. It doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious ?

That's amazing, thanks for providing the link!
