  1. Without understanding all the details of the linked page, I feel like your comment is taken somewhat out of context. Nikon produces a tool used in semiconductor manufacturing that has the precision necessary for 5 nm production fabs. That is very different from having a 5 nm fab, which is how some might interpret your comment. To me, this seems more of a feat of Nikon optics than it is of Nikon sensors, since optics is a crucial part of lithography.
  2. When it comes to the mount blocking the sensor it's obvious that the flange distance is crucial. It shouldn't be necessary to point out that scenario is completely different for a 100mm flange distance and the e-mount's 18mm.
  3. Talking about the mount size, this shouldn't be a limitation at all for the a6500. When using full frame lenses I would imagine that the a6500 has even more space to move than m43 sensors.
  4. If you want to make a virtual tripod, try switching the IBIS mode from IS 2.0 to the stationary mode if you haven't already.
  5. It is Really a focal length range: 4.2-532mm. A 4.2mm is a 4.2mm is a 4.2mm I don't care what camera it is on. This is a silly argument. The point is that if you can do it with the focal length then it's no less wrong to do it to the aperture.
  6. I have used a Dell 27" 4k at work for about a year now and I'm very pleased with the size/resolution. There are some old applications that don't work well, but in 90% of the cases there is no problem, and when I have to use that one application for more than 10 minutes I'll simply change the resolution. I have tried larger screens than 27" in the past, but my conclusion has been that my eyes have to travel too far when using a larger screen, and as long as I'm sitting close to the screen there is no real benefit of a larger screen. I am about to get an LG 27UK850-W for home use. It seems like a decent middleground when it comes to price/performance. My requirements for a new screen were: decent colours, 27-32", USB-C, 4k. I am curious what the HDR claim of the monitor means in practice, but the HDR technology seems a bit immature, so I'll wait until my next screen to have a true HDR monitor (OLED/HDR1000/DolbyVision/whatever has arrived by then).
  7. He is just explaining the specs of the camera, MFT mount, touch screen, good features for video, good DR, 4k60p, HDMI, battery type, USB-C, DNGRAW and DavinciResolve is convenient, ProRes is also available, still camera button next to the regular one, please visit our homepage. No new information as far as I can tell.
  8. Thanks, that works much better than VLC for me.
  9. Probably not what you are asking for, but the best player I have found for the h.265 10 bit files is... my Samsung S8 phone. With a usb-c card reader I can plug it in and play it back flawlessly. To my surprise much smoother than on my MacBook Pro.
  10. Smudging grease on your lens will also make the background softer, but this effect isn't covered by the DOP equivalence formula either.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. I ended up ordering the 55w bicoloured Boltzen with the Wi-Fi accessory. The fan noise seems tolerable, and with ~3500lumen output in both ends of the colour scale, I feel like it has a lot more use-cases than the Aputure
  12. Any update on how the Aputure 20(c?) is comparing to the Boltzen? The 20c is very tempting. I like the connectivity, size, and convenience a lot, but I'm worried about the fan noise.
  13. With the headline Fullframe Canon, I thought this was going to be about the C700 FF, then I noticed that the thread is from 2011. Is the C700 FF not worthy of a thread?
  14. Wouldn't that cause unnecessary disfractions? Light isn't too fond of moving through small holes. And by opaque I guess you mean an ND filter? An opaque filter in front of your lens would add haze to everything.
  15. Thanks for the explanation. After reading the previous post I started to wonder if everything I thought I knew about apodizing lenses was wrong, and I started to re-study the subject. Your post corresponds to how I understood apodizers to work.
  16. It seems like a bit of a cable mess in my opinion. How does tall people feel about shoulderrigs? I often end up feeling like I'm filming from above when I'm using a shoulder rig like that, so I've assembled one where the camera is slightly lower than my shoulder.
  17. Likewise, designing a lens with a smaller image circle is a lot easier. After all, we've all got 4.5mm f/1.7 lenses, in our smartphones. That's of course not counting for the same depth of field, which would make it a lot harder again, just as you pointed out.
  18. Anyone tried the Aputure Amaran MX? It's a bit expensive for what you get, but the size and adjustments just seem so convenient. The internal battery is quite small, so I'm wondering if the USB charging also works while the light is on.
  19. But the 9V is delivered through QC, which can boosts the voltage to 9V regardless of whether the source battery is at 4.2V or 3V. It would have been different if we were talking about an actual 9V battery.
  20. It's not uncommon for a 2 cell 7.2V battery to have a voltage up to 8.4V when fully charged, so 9V is probably within the tolerance limit of the camera. On the other hand, it's not a bad idea to be on the cautious side. To the OP: Unless the dummy battery or the adapter has a QC2.0/QC3.0 chip, I don't think it will be able to tell the powerbank that it needs 9V. As far as I know, both the supplier and the consumer needs QC if you want anything above 5V.
  21. The video looks good. I am not used to uploading to vimeo, so I have one question about the process. Did you add black bars on the top and bottom, or is vimeo unable to present wide screen properly? I find it annoying to have this black box around the video:
  22. I would like to second that. I like USB-C a lot in theory, but in practice I've found it to be less reliable than Micro-USB. Using my MacBookPro charger on my Samsung S8, it will lose connection about 20% of the times I use it. Using my Anker cable I often have to insert it multiple times before it recognizes it.
  23. Good to know. If the free version of Resolve supports HDR then it's not really an issue.
  24. What I mean is that I want a monitor good enough to judge if the footage looks correct on HDR monitors. I probably don't need 10.000 nits for that, and I can probably get away with a monitor without true black-OLED. I actually have a laptop with an OLED screen as well, but I have no idea if it supports 10 bit HLG. I haven't seen any HDR option on youtube, so I guess it doesn't. So I will need an Akitio because the Iris 650 don't support 10 bit output? Or is there another reason? I am using Adobe Premiere, I've got it running both in high Sierra and Windows 10, so can use either operating system. Sorry about that, I couldn't find the old HDR thread, which I guess proves your point that it's already hard enough for those looking for information.
  25. The more I read about HDR the more confused I am about the actual hardware requirements to play 10 bit HDR. I don't need the highest brightness or blackest black, but I want to be able to create HLG videos and judge the results. I know the big HDR thread touched on this, but I would like a simple list of requirements to deliver HDR output. My guess is that I need a 10 bit monitor with some kind of dynamic range claim, a graphics card capable of outputting 10 bit video and a cable capable of connecting the two. Monitor: I guess getting a 10 bit HDR10 monitor would suffice. Graphics card: I have an Intel Iris Plus 650 graphics card. Is this card capable of outputting a 10 bit signal or would I need an external graphics card? I have tried searching the internet, but I have become none the wiser. Cable: I will try to get a Thunderbolt 3 monitor, so I'm sure the cable will not be a problem. Is there anything I would have to look out for if I go for HDMI? Any settings in Windows/MacOS I have to enable to get 10 bit output? Input from anyone with actual HDR experience would be highly appreciated.
