For clarity, the “them” in this sentence is still referring to Hasselblad. So, something from their parent company DJI (ie the incorporation of their video tech) will make Hasselblad more relevant. Although it has to be said that a mirrorless camera from DJI might cause far more of a splash with a far bigger modern audience who’ve been using their drones, action cameras and gimbals than would a cost reduced Hasselblad with comprehensive video features. Those of us of a certain age might well choke on our pipes and unexpectedly fill our incontinence pants in excitement at such a Hasselblad but we are literally a dying breed so it might well appear under the DJI guise if it happens.

What? I said no such thing. It is precisely DJI’s video relevance that makes Hasselblad with their internals such a potentially serious competitor in the high end hybrid market.

Saw this today and whilst I don’t exactly agree with his views on the image making output of some/many of the YouTubers mentioned, it is in an interesting watch and raises really valid points about being sucked in to the reviews but then taking stock of what he really needs. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s a new manifesto for this place but it certainly does speak to its original vibe and make do and mend spirit.

Hasselblad. I think something will come from DJI that will make them more relevant video wise. They might also be eyeing the fixed lens market (not to mention the eye watering prices X-Pans fetch) and thinking they could have a slice of that. Let’s not forget that DJI are also L Mount alliance members so a an L mount full frame or APS-C (as no one is doing one) Hasselblad could also make a splash. Although Leica would probably lose their minds over that possibility so maybe it is contractually forbidden to do anything other than DJI branded.

I’d add to that the integration of wireless BLE timecode for multi camera and audio recorder sync.

Though not as popular as Space Karen thought they were.

Monster Adapter are about to release an F to Z mount adapter that incorporates a motor to drive old AF-D lenses. So thats another boatload of high quality very affordable lenses that can now be used with Z mount cameras. It really is the USB of lens mounts.

I think he just makes cameras that he himself wants to use and feels there are enough like minded people around who will want to as well. And if not, well, they sell enough lenses to cover it anyway.

Apparently, due to the aluminium milling process taking seven hours, the production capability is limited to nine units a day. They really are mad bastards.

I was accused of "secret YouTubing" yesterday amid demands to know what it was I was watching. "Just videos of the new BF". "Fair enough, tell him he can wait outside MapCamera for you from now on then".

Even MFT lenses can find a home on the Z mount. Yes it will only be for manual but that encompasses a lot of very fine and affordable lenses (particularly cine) that can be used and the vast majority of those will cover APS-C. https://pixco.com.cn/products/micro-4-3-nikon-z-adapter

All of my reverse engineering efforts are currently focused on decrypting my wife's acceptance algorithm so that I can devise a way to get one of these cameras without being ejected from the house. My current working theory is to use the "Yes, I might be a completely reckless buyer of cameras but at least I'm not as bad as@Andrew Reid" gambit. I will combine that with the old stalwart of "Hey, you know how much you love going to Japan ? What if I told you there was a way where we could do something that would almost make the trip free ?". This latter one relies on me floating the idea of buying a GFX100, the savings on which would cover a substantial portion of the trip, but then not actually buying one when we get there. Which earns brownie points for saving money of course * *NB She knows, of course, but humours me

Well that certainly addresses the meagre DX mount lens offerings available for anyone looking at the Nikon Z50ii. It may be down to 3rd parties coming up with these adapters rather than Nikon themselves but it’s all adding up to the Z mount laying out the welcome mat for people changing systems without the double hit of depreciation on their current lenses and laying out for new versions in the native mount.

What are your feelings about Panasonic S1R II being in the S5 body design?
BTM_Pix replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
To return the design language, it would be a nice touch when the S1R II overheats to have a loud “DING!” to let you know it’s done instead of a boring symbol on the rear screen. -

I understand the cost saving/standardisation perspective but I think Panasonic are definitely taking the piss a bit now by re-using the S5ii body for all their products. -
You could take it to the nearest DHL drop off point to MPB as it is literally round the corner. Even DHL would struggle to misplace something during that route.

I've spotted an opportunity for you to be able to drop stuff off and stay within their DHL only policy ..

The RAW stills are DNG and, with it having an internal NVME, you'd think there was ample capability to have RAW video but looks like the video modes are all compressed. Can't see anything on official specs about whether its 10 bit either.

Fashioned from a single piece of aluminium, internal storage, minimalist controls… It’s basically a full frame rebirth of the original Leica T isn’t it ? Well, minus an SD card slot or optional EVF. They are mad bastards and I salute them for it.

Although in a world of brutal honesty, I’d definitely be inclined to think that these options are realistically more than enough for my actual needs. Anyway, must dash as I’ve got more videos of the BM Cine 12K to distract me from making any actual material of my own with any of the 373 cameras that I already have in my cupboard.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, the XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 isn't exactly a Noctilux either but, for me at least, an ideal travel compact system will have a general purpose zoom that I can trade versatility against speed for and a compact fast prime for situations when I can't/won't so the FujiFilm definitely spanks it there.
-
My initial reaction to this camera was "actually thats really quite a decent package" and it is but I still find the FujiFilm X-M5 with its kit lens a more compelling option. OK, so the lens will make it bigger but not dramatically so. You can even just ignore the interchangeable lens option and just stick with the kit lens and pretend its the same sort of integrated compact. At the risk of opening up the floodgates in a "what have the Romans ever done for us" style, I'm not seeing much of an advantage with the V1 against that combo. And with FujiFilm's trickle out of production they are both equally unavailable in Europe too.
