  1. My theory is that its stills and video modes are so distinct code wise that it is effectively almost like a reboot when you switch, hence why it has to be a physical control. This, to me, is why it can't record more than 720p while you are using the app as when you are using the app it is in "stills mode" and 720p is the limit to what it can do without being in full on video mode. I can think of no other reason why you would cripple it in this way otherwise, both from the point of view of not being able to do video recording in stills mode by a programmable key (of which there are many) or not allowing the user to record such reduced resolution while operating it remotely. Now that they have a camera that they are targeting to video production then this business with the 720p restriction will become more and more relevant and will require a bit of an elaborate workaround. Anyway......did you get the battery grip?

I definitely think you'd be doing a good turn for the X-H1 owners with that test. Lack of AF won't be a hindrance anyway with their current firmware ....

Did you get the E-mount adapter in expectation of getting an A7iii Jon?
  4. Great lateral thinking by the guy who came up with the workaround but I'm now wondering if the best fix for these issues is to set my own calendar into the future and buy the mark IV version of it.
  5. Its no picnic shooting them in that mode through the OVF though, especially in low light. The only time I ever use it is for an 8mm Samyang fisheye that I know will have to be cropped anyway as it doesn't cover FX.
  6. Absolutely. My Fuji dalliances are still viewed with curiosity/disdain/open hostility depending on whoever it is sat next to me !
  7. We must work at very different events then as I'm in Europe too and shoot Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA European Championships, FIFA World Cup, Tour de France, Le Mans, Rugby Union (club and World Cup), Rugby League (club and World Cup), WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO World Championship boxing, Test Cricket, UCI Track Cycling World Championships, FIS World Skiing Championships and so on. Its a lot more than 1% shooting on Nikon, in my experience. Even when Canon are sponsoring our photo vests.
  8. Its more like 65/35 split in their favour over Nikon on average to be fair. Though I doubt we'll see the duopoly dented let alone broken before sport photography as we know it ceases to exist. At that point - when it becomes frame extract from 8K broadcast - Sony and Panasonic will have the duopoly.
  9. Yeah, I think people will be sold on the image (crop aside) but its the longer term reliability thats troubling everyone so it'll be great if he does a brief monthly update. "And this week, I put version 2.3 firmware on which allows you to charge the batteries in the grip without removing them and I have to say the results were mixed...."

    Dolly wheels?

I'm having to pour the WD40 on mine as well. Its the remote that fascinates me. Especially if its combined with the gimbal remote.

    Dolly wheels?

The Ninebot Pro as a gimbal operator platform has some legs (well, wheels) for something like that. As well as being able to be ridden, it can also be driven remotely by an app without a human on it thus removing their pesky Z axis thrashing about. As most of the small gimbals use the AlexMos controller which itself can be remote operated then you've got quite a capable package. Allied with the auto tracker that you backed on Kickstarter we would have ourselves a very nifty operator. And with a couple of guns, our own Robocop.
  12. He's in another thread too but I hope they leave that post alone as it just says 'Panasonic is a device wrapped in the heart of the house is used.' I don't mind spam when its as poetic as that Though I'm surprised it didn't spark an angry response regarding the weather sealing of that house such is the recent hair trigger vibe of this place.

    NX2 rumors

I wouldn't be too hasty to write this off to be fair. I don't know @Arikhan in real life but he's always struck me as a standup fella.

    Dolly wheels?

GlideGear sell the wheels only from their system. Never used them personally but they seem to get good reviews from people using them to go the DIY route. https://www.amazon.com/Glide-Gear-Tripod-Swivel-Wheels/dp/B0125IUEV4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521573335&sr=1-2&keywords=glide+gear+dolly
  15. You'd have to be a whole lot richer to buy it in the UK. Just added all those items up at a big UK camera store and its $8800 if you buy those parts here so your $5499 is the sale of the century !
  16. Whatever fantastical AI driven gazillion megapixel light field camera recording onto a grain of rice that manufacturers come up, you can bet your life they still won't put a microphone input on the entry level ones.
  17. I'm less concerned about where it goes to be repaired but how they can keep you going in the meantime. If the distributors got plenty of swap out units (which I've been led to believe by one of them that they will) then it doesn't matter to me where they send it for repair.
  18. Well, the debate can end, the master has spoken.
  19. Potential solution depending on how you're working.... Cage for the Shogun which you can then attach camera strap to. Cheap quick release plate on the cage to get it on and off your rig for when you want to monitor on it for composition setup etc and use the camera screen for actually shooting and have it over your shoulder when you don't. If you are mainly using it as a recorder then you can leave it over the shoulder and set the HDMI trigger to auto start stop when you press record on the GH5. https://www.amazon.co.uk/SmallRig-Camera-Monitor-Assassin-Recorder-1788-Cage-1788/dp/B072MS5J3W
  20. This looks like an interesting add on to help with the Z axis movement. Not a magic bullet as you still need to hone your technique but looks to be a definite advantage to people like me who move about as elegantly as that Honda robot. Has anyone here got one?

    NX2 rumors

C'mon.....Its been Monday for 10 whole hours now @Arikhan
  22. Maybe they need to switch the second one on then
  23. Yes, I meant that there must've been a good reason to have left it off the X-T2 and this is probably it ! Not specifically that they knew it would cause an AF issue but that the overall processor impact was too negative. If thats the case, the quick fix will be an auto disabling of it when in video mode as it is on the X-T2. Curious about if having IBIS off changes the outcome as well. Ditto if using the grip with its extra grunt changes it too. One of the great things about the X-T2 is the degree of AF tuning you can do but that flexibility might also be an achilles heel when it comes to tracing stuff like this.
  24. If it works, why not. Bit less flexible and it would be better being enclosed but as a solution you can't fault it for battery life
