Nice camera but somehow I'm not impressed.

I saw the rumors and I thought Sony A9 would have a a more ruggerised body (dustproof, waterproof), less squishy buttons and an extendedy body like the 1DX has. And a big focus on image quality i.e. much higher dynamic range than other cameras.

Instead the focus is 20fps. Who needs 20fps?

Sports photogs can be interested, but they need big white lenses. Sony doesn't have any of those.

I have no idea which kind of user Sony is targeting for this.

They just added a 100-400mm lens. I would think that, and a 24-70mm would be be the bees knees. I know the 100-400 is sort of slow, but this thing goes up to over 200,000 ISO!

At 20FPS with NO blackout, and with total silent shutter, they will not be able to make enough of them! A sports, wedding photographers dream camera. And the damn thing has a Ethernet cable output! Instant downloads. Well almost instant LoL. :grimace:

And there is No way this thing is not weather sealed. A sports camera Not sealed?

D7500 is a solid progressive update for Nikon. But yeah, won't be setting the world on fire. It is at least a year too late for that.

However, D750 and D810 are both overdue updates which should happen this year or early next year. As they're both very excellent cameras that are still top of their class now, then if Nikon pulls off a big update for them then they should have something very special on their hands when they get released.

Yeah, but if all they do is put the Sony 42mp sensor in them instead of the 36mp sensor they have now whoop tee shit!

The heavy breathing at 5:22 is something I am familiar with. Try this with an A7Sii and 70-200 f4 with people moving in front of the lens as they try to get a cheap shot off with their Boots disposables.

Had to do the single area / half press shutter manoeuvre and even then only got half the isle shot in focus. About the same as this bloke when all said and done.

God that guy needs to buy a old ENG camera. They can focus on anything if you learn how to do it. It's called MF LoL. But B4 lenses are a hell of a lot easier to focus than DSLR lenses. They have a Long throw to them and the camera, lens, battery combo is heavy as hell, and that is what makes them work so well, They are steady. You learn how to swing, pan them, not point them. That is their secret.

So you say its broken but its still his fault...?

Im sorry but I don't get it. Why dont you want all of it to work? If you are happy with it, why not just stay happy but let others try to push Panasonic to make it even better?

I just dont see what you gain from constantly ripping on people who wants an improvement of something. Personally I never use AF, ever. Hardly ever for stills. I dont even have the camera (neither does Dougdale, he turned it down until its fixed). Im 99% I will never buy it and I still hope Panasonic fixes it. Because everyone gains from it, including you Ken.

It sets a standard and pushes the entire industry.

Yeah I have to admit why would you HAVE to use just one setting when it has many settings, to get AF to work sort of well? I am not buying a GH5 also. But I didn't buy the GH4 either.

  5. I don't have one, but how big is the focus area with 1-area. Just 1 in the center, or say a small cluster of say 9 you can move around like the G7 has?? I am pretty happy how well my Panny G7 does focus with the right lens on it naturally. My New 14-140 f3.5- 5.6 II has that DFD ability.

I meant a custom WB rather than just a button to access the WB selection menu.

Ahh that is a LOT different. Hmm, unless you are going to repeat over and over the same thing, Higher end cameras do have that option. My Panasonic AF100A has 6 "slots" you can use to do that. They call it Scene Files. It does come in handy. I guess on lower end cameras they are not going to offer everything but the kitchen sink. And there is a Hard switch on it to save 2 of the 3 WB presets. I pretty much Black Balance and WB just about every time I move the camera. There is no real Auto anything on it but AF, and it is not that great on it.

    Wait, Ken Stone?

    Laughing out loud! Shit.

Yeah I think Panny has some big troubles on their hand here with AF. They better fix this quick or this could get ugly. This thing reminds me of my Canon 1D mk III. It was so god damn complex you could never duplicate anything you did in the field. It had WAY too many options on AF, and that was the reason it sucked and it ended up like the GH5 is looking like. Too damn complex with all the settings it has. The 1dn mkII I had before it could AF on ANYTHING in a heartbeat. It had a very simple AF menu.

95% of the focusing problems with the 1D mkIII were user errors. But why make a camera that you can screw up AF so easy to accomplish LoL.

Xc10 was a dissapointment. Its positive features were crippled by the negative. I think it was done intentionally

That camera had the potential to be Great. It had a great Codec, it need a constant aperture lens, and the mike situation the 15 had, and those two thing alone would have made it well worth the price. They had way more technology at their disposal at the time and purposely gimped it.

It could have been a smash hit with the form factor, and they could not have built enough of them fast enough if they did a few things more to it..

Hell Sony did the same stupid shit with the VC 10-VC 30. Hell VC 30 was the coolest thing since sliced bread, and with Aliasing, a stupid codec from hell, etc, it could have been a runaway hit. I would still have one to this day if they didn't gimp it. The whole concept of it was cool as heck.

The thread has the answer, I'm sure you didn't look :) . Jacqui's super cool, she's been in many films and TV shows, and grew up in Cincinnati, maybe you saw her in person. She's pretty much retired from Hollywood and is working on a spiritual path to help people- hypnosis, NLP therapy, coaching, and now yoga instructor. We worked full time on Cosmic Flow for a while, now just part time as she's growing her own brand: http://jacquiholland.com. Folks looking for those things in LA, get in touch with her, she's really talented (sorry guys, she has a serious boyfriend).

Might have seen her as I live 20 miles North of Cincy. Woman I know lived in Fort Myers, Florida. Yeah I Might have cheated. But I think it is sort of obvious.

Really? You've played with the A7S III? A7S II's touch screen did suck since it didn't have one ;)  True on A7S II battery and AF (A7R II has decent AF).

A7S II has decent color with a little work:

    Which camera is which?

    small_adjustment.jpg

I would bet the A7s II is the first one. I used to know a woman that looked almost just like she does. Yikes, she was a looker. Don't think I would want to deal with the stares that go with it. Hell I know I stared LoL. :flushed:

The FS700 was never known for great colors.  Odd duck Codec. And it was built the shape of a breadbox. But one of the cheapest Raw cameras out there used now. And it is sort of like the Canon C700, about 3 feet long with all the factory stuff you need to make it shoot Raw!  Sort of looks like a Sandwich loaf of bread in the supermarket. If it didn't have all the high speed FPS stuff on it, I think it would have been a flop for Sony.

Still full price over at BH ?

No real surprise! I have never been to the store, only seen pictures, but I guess they have to make money when they can, because they stock an Amazing amount of stuff on hand. I don't see how they can have that much electronic stuff, that depreciates faster than you can buy it, and make money doing it.

Wow! Comparing apple juice and wine!

Oh you don't EVEN want to bring up XC10 stuff on here LoL. There are lots of people that lost their ass on that lovely, little, bastard, piece of crap, what the hell, stupid, why the hell, video camera that could have been pretty damn good, if Canon was not Doing what Canon does best. Gimp the living shit out everything they make, on purpose, to sell you a better one next year. :frown: Well that is their plan, but sometimes the Newer one is no better or worse.

Canon has a hell of a different mindset than Panasonic, who I think really does try to make everything they make as good as it can be made, at the time, for the price point. I think they really do care about the end user. Canon, they just want your damn money. If you own a Canon, they have some great stuff, you are basically their sort of life long piggy bank.

I think in reality Canon is TOO Damn big of a company. They are not hungry, and that makes it bad for customers. Why the hell don't they have a FF Mirrorless camera. Why? Why doesn't Nikon either, who is about to go Belly up!  Nightly Rant over LoL.

  13. Maybe I am wrong but it seems to me people are not giving the GH5 time TO AF. I am sure they didn't design it to snap into focus. Isn't it suppose to do a slow, heck I can't think of the word, Transition?? I would think it would look stupid if it did a Snap Focus which seems to be what a lot of people think it is Suppose to do like a stills camera.

Is there a way to change the speed at which it does focus??  The above Cat video sure didn't look the guy gave it enough time to even focus on what it was suppose to be focused on.

Hell of a lot of FOCUS words in this damn thing! :grimace:

  14. Well thank you very much for your descriptions. I had a bad feeling that was what you was going to say. I think if I want to play around again with Raw best to buy a BMPCC or a BMCC and be done with it.

The entry price to get into a Red, with all the goodies you Have to have to make it work, is off the chart cost wise. No way near the bother for the output in this day and age using a Older one.

Yeah sounds like it is not worth the effort any more. Thanks again for the reply.

@webrunner5 Some software, like Vegas Pro rely much more on CPU rendering than GPU.

Ahh never knew that. Didn't Sony just sell Vegas Pro?? Resolve is just the opposite. You have to have pretty good GPU HP to run Resolve, especially if you have a bunch of Nodes open.

I really think Blackmagic is a amazing company software and hardware wise as young as they are in the market. They have really done some great things in a damn short time. Canon are YOU listening??

Resolve is a newer product than most others are. Killer GPU's were not that common years ago like they are now. I think the older company's are missing a big opportunity Not using the power the GPU's have now. But I guess they would have to re write their whole code. Probably ain't happening any time soon LoL. :grimace:

yes seems a lot faster and more accurate than the Canon 750d Iv'e also got...haven't tested it thoroughly but so far am pleasantly surprised

Does a Canon 750D have DPAF?? That would be a surprising result compared to the GH5 if it does.

? the af works superfast for stills

Well l never used my Sony A7R for video, and the A7 I did a few times. I am talking I guess, mostly with Photo AF still photography. So YMMV if you have tried it mostly for video. I don't see how it would be much, to any didfferent, stills or video?

So you are saying the GH5 works great for stills on AF?? if true, how could it suck that bad on video? AF is AF is AF.

  18. What do you think about the original Red One MX?? I have had a chance to buy one for awhile, I can buy the body for less than 2000 dollars. He never uses it. But he wants way to much for the whole kit. He has a TON of stuff in the kit, but half I would never need, and I can't afford that much money at one time anyways.

I have been thinking of getting just the body, and a Bomb, a power supply, and go from there little bits at a time. But I don't know, maybe their time is over with. I know they have pretty damn good DR in them, and some people think they look better than the Epic MX?? Have you worked with them before? I am sure you have.

I guess it has more to do with me being able to say I own a "Red" than any logical thing LoL. I am more of a tripod guy anyways, so the weight of the damn thing is not that big of a deal to me. I think it may actually be a benefit on a tripod. It would be just for Hobby stuff. Not making money with, I, think? LoL
