meanwhile Sony adds a picture profile to the FS5 and has the nerve to call it a MK2.. the hype train is real these days.. getting back to BMD, this is how you do a real camera follow up!
-
tell me about it.. i just bought a 2012 C100 last month! LOL
-
Rather not get into the "shooter skills" argument. The way i see it, if you need IBIS, EVF, AF for stills, Anamorphic etc.. you got GH5/GH5S. If you need Pro Res / Raw with a 5" display, pro I/Os & no in-cam NR/Sharp etc.. go with BMPCC4K. me? could care less about m43. waiting for canon or getting another fuji.

I'm getting déja vu from the XH1 thread.. where every page was getting polluted by GH5 defense talk. i kindly suggest to jonpais not to get so personally affected by GH5 criticism.. let's face it the camera jus isn't as unanimous as it was a year half ago. times gonna change. that being said no need to feel threatened if you're still enjoying its output..

@Luke Mason do you remember what lens was on camera by any chance?

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
Django replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
true.. but you do need a shogun inferno for that bringing the price closer to +$6K -
@Luke Mason ok now where talking! kudos for sharing
-
@anonim my guess is the prototype was barely made ready in time for NAB (may i remind the rubber port cover that broke off during grant's presentation lol). pretty sure they aren't saying much because they themselves probably haven't had a chance to see/do much with it. it's pretty much specs & a prototype at this point i think.
-
by all means speculate away! just trying to put a little perspective around this announcement.. btw i'm excited as well!!
-
nobody has even shot with this camera or seen actual footage yet you guys sure seem sure about it's IQ.. impressive! not to be a party pooper but BMD don't exactly hold a perfect track record. remember the FPN issues with BMPC/UM 4K.. or the magenta cast issue on the UM4.6K sensor that had people sending them back? i mean i sure hope BMD have learned from their mistakes but at this point all we got is a shown prototype not even in the final material!
-
Yeah this is huge update for XT2.. might just pick up a 2nd hand one now again.
-
BMD is growing fast and with this announcement they're going to blow up even more. The fact the sensor is MFT (and Dual ISO at that) is definitely stepping on Panny's toes. GH6 better have Pro Res raw internal & rock solid AF. GH5S is DOA imo.
-
Only 120 fps is windowed HD: Frame Rates Maximum sensor frame rate dependent on resolution and codec selected. Project frame rates of 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60 fps supported. Off-speed frame rates up to 60 fps in 4K DCI, 120 fps in HD windowed.

@DaveAltizer Exact crop factor would be nice to know as well.
-
@DaveAltizer could you ask BM what the MP count is for stills?
-
BM cameras don't have AF. Focus Focus button turns on peaking, auto focus available using compatible lenses.

GH5 RIP

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
Django replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
agreed, but it's a real mystery then what they are going to be able to do to justify the expected $3500 price tag. especially with the $2000 A73 being so capable in low-light, stills & AF. maybe they'll just add this new "venice" profile, slap on a BSI sensor with the latest AF enhancements and price it at the current A7S2 cut-down retail which is $2400 (which is basically what they've done with FS5 II). seems like Sony's current strategy is to be agressive on price points to undercut competition rather than really pushing forward innovation... -
yes leaker on IG confirms it's a flip screen.

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
Django replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
not really.. FS5 mk1 with free raw upgrade is the same exact price: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1185424-REG/sony_pxw_fs5_xdcam_super_35.html further proof mk2 is really just a re-badged FS5.. this has got to be the laziest follow-up move ever! and yes this doesn't bode well at all for A7S3 prospects.. -
Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
Django replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
unbelievable!! this looks exactly like an upgraded FS5 ?!! same sensor, same internal 100mb XAVC 8-bit 420 codec for 4K..etc only improvement is.. a revamped color profile!! i get color science is sony's biggest criticism but cmon.. what a colossal let down. -
Yeah we do a lot of comedy work so improv is kind of second nature.. I went with the Mark 1.. again lol. I wasn't even in the market tbh but i fell upon a deal i simply couldn't refuse (mint with DPAF & a Ninja Star for 1500). Dual pixel has gone long ways though since C100 and indeed it's quite remarkable on 5D4/C200 with object tracking and touch functionality etc. I wouldn't hold my breath for ML to crack 5D4 any time soon even though last time i checked it was stated as being ported.. Hopefully their upcoming FF mirrorless will support ProRes Raw via HDMI.. wishful thinking i know! GH5 is a more likely candidate
-
I think everybody agrees SDI > HDMI however i don't think a single DSLR/MILC has had built-in SDI connectors AFAIK..
-
None yet. Btw we are talking about ProRes Raw, a new codec just announced. It's safe to assume the codec or output via HDMI will appear in upcoming devices: Atomos doesn’t have an exclusive monopoly on ProRes RAW, DJI will also be implementing the codec into the INSPIRE 2’s Zenmuse X7 camera in May. Just when we will see ProRes RAW implemented into other devices and even cameras are still unknown. Apple is keen to make ProRes RAW an industry standard codec, so I wouldn’t imagine it will be too long before we see it being more widely adopted. ProRes RAW is here

Most can.. but some definitely have trouble believe me lol.. also depends on direction style. our main narrative director loves doing improv takes and changing camera angles on the fly. can drive DOP/focus puller crazy at times but that's what it sometimes takes and why manual is still invaluable in certain situations. Of course that all means a production budget though. That being said Canon's dual pixel is amazing in it's accuracy and smoothness. It really looks natural and I've pulled off some rack focus shots that would have been tough without a focus puller. It can't do the multiple point thing though which is interesting, assuming it works good enough. AF in video is a big thing for me now and again especially on focus by wire systems. One of the main reasons i'm hesitant to go back to Fuji to be honest.
