Michael Coffee got a reaction from DevonChris in 5 reasons why I will be getting a Panasonic GH5
Look - I have to disagree regarding my gx7 - no matter how carefully I white balance, and grade, there always seems to be something wrong going on in the red to orange range for me.. I try to avoid those colours, and yeah, it can look pretty good but I get to the point where I think its ok, especially with filmconvert..  - then look at any Canon footage straight out of cammera and think that it just looks so right, more pleasing.. the gx85 does look alot better at this stage to me though - from what I've seen it looks somewhat Blackmagic like with the colours.. slightly more neutral than the Canon's and looks like a great base colour look for grading!
Two frames from where I'm happy with the Panny's colour:)

I'd have been tempted with a GX8 as I like the form and fit - it feels nice in the hand
BUT I get absolutely fed up with having to consider shutter shock all the time on my G6 (with my 14-140 MKII)
add the built in IS and its a no brainer

G7 and GX85 use the same 16MP sensor. The GX85 doesn't have an AA filter, but for video the quality is identical.

The GX8 is a completely different 20MP sensor.

    That's a great news!
You really deserve it! Congratulations Andy!
I'm sure that with people like you they can be closer to real needs of filmmakers, because you really squeeze their cameras and you know every pro and cons

I've been committed to Panasonic for 5 years now that's all I ever use . For my work the Panasonic G7 is an amazing camera , it does all I need and it is superb in low light for the style of cinematography I shoot , I'm regularly three or four stop under exposed , I shot a lot of contrast in light and in colours in the way I light the sets and the G7 handles that superbly it is in my opinion very very good detail in the black areas. No fizz and noise at all  the image it produces is very clean . Pandora movie is nealy finished now we are 39 days into the shoot , once this is completed I move straight onto another movie - a classic British Spy movie that I'm directing and DOP on pre production starts on that next month....so I am shooting this movie all on Panasonic too......watch this space ...

Convince them to put some sort of compressed raw into the cameras, it would make the gh5 a little bit more relevant.

Can you confirm once and for all which actual bit depth and chroma sampling is coming out of the HDMI connector on the G7 and GX80/85?

Also, what will you do with all of your camera gear after the feature finishes shooting?

Heres my way of thinking, and why theres this dilemma.
Im aware the A7sII and Ursa are completely different cameras, for completely different purposes. This year, I've got 3 music video scheduled as well as a couple advertisement (apart from small gigs such as events/weddings). So, if I got the URSA, It could help improve the jobs I have control on, like the music videos and advertisement, however, if I got the A7sII it would still be great, but not as good, but I could use it as a Bcam for all other stuff.
Why not an NX1 ? Well, as much as I love my camera, it is a dead system, and wouldnt make sense to keep investing in it, so the A7sII is the next best choice, not only it would complement my gear, it would improve my lowlight shots, as well as have the choice for a full frame aesthetic or S35.
The BMPC4k is also a good choice, its cheaper and has 10 bit prores, however having only 3 ISO choices, lack of slow-mo, and other quirks threw me off a bit.
The 5DMk2 is a great choice, which i've been also dating for a while..

c100.. great low light, rock solid - mark 2 has the incredible dual pixel autofocus.. better video than 5d's, so can be very filmic.. great detail and colour.. low rolling shutter - better all around camera.. that said I would love an a7s to film at night with!

You forgot a very very important point: Autofocus. Panasonic really lacks a good AF and if we could have a similar AF as A6300 that would be really awesome.
Just because of this I will hesitate between 5d4 and GH5

Welcome Michael. Per your example, in 1080p video the crop factor would remain 2x, so your 14mm lens would be 28mm. In 4K, I believe it is a 2.1x or a 2.2x, so your 14mm would be around 30mm. However, I believe there may be a slight, additional crop when IBIS is used, but I am not a hundred percent sure about that.

    Ok. I get it.
Just to give some of my experience with it... I've noticed that the blue channel seems rather noisy in the shadows (nothing like my old RX100 though). Red channel seems to evoke a sort of blurring/glowing effect. Green, as always, is a champion. If someone could tell me how to get the best results from these channels, it'd be very helpful. I was planning on doing some tests myself this week. I think one of the most difficult things to do with 8-bit signals is to get accurate memory colors (like skin) in shadowy areas. So far, I've been using the standard profile with reasonable results.

Nice. Beautiful shadows on her face. Better than some of the "references" I've seen - modern art deco. Would love to see some motion footage.. which always looked good to me from ML raw!

Thanks for the thrilling discussion. The camera is a 5D MKII with ML RAW and the lens a Zeiss ZF 35mm. @Zach Goodwin you got it right immediately!

All handheld of course.  Shot with way too much caffeine in my system, had the shakes a bit.  Also, trying to manually focus using the LCD in bright daylight.  Pretty challenging, but really just trying to shoot at an extreme to see what would or would not happen or what I could or could not handle.
