  1. I'm excited about this rumor. I sure hope it happens. I've been playing with the EOSHD Sony color settings for an a6500 we are renting and really like it. But I miss the canon handling, long battery life, and honestly the chunkyness of the canon DSLR. There is something about that size that is really great. I honestly think the Panasonic gh4/5 is probably the perfect size but whatever.... rambling. All I know is I'm not spending any money until NAB. Lots to look forward to this year. Last year was a doozy.

    I'm Sorry

After a few days of cooling off I felt terrible about all this. I took the thread too personally and responded emotionally and didn't think it through. I think we all did. We are all brothers here and I hope to continue to be part of this amazing community.

    I'm Sorry

Hey guys. I shared some of my videos a few days ago and it turned into a crazy thread that got super religious and out of hand. I want to apologize by the way I responded. If I came across being harsh or "matter of fact" I am really truly sorry. I will continue to make YouTube content and am taking what I have learned from this forum and will apply it to my videos going forward. If I offended anyone please accept my sincere apology.
  4. I stumbled on them while doing research on the beloved Leica R lenses on the REDUSER forums. A reviewer brought them up and said that they are just as good or better than the Leica R's. I did more research and discovered that some of the original Zeiss ZE and ZF lenses were using the exact same glass as some of the old Contax Zeiss glass. I found a set of Contax lenses on eBay for $300 each lens and I jumped on the opportunity and love them! I have the 28mm 2.8, 35mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm f2.8 and I really love them on the full frame sensor on my 1dc. I was DP for a shoot at my work and we exclusively used them for a project that was shot all C500
  5. Of course I will continue to do it. Without the gospel there is no point to do anything. Ive heard this metaphor before and i think it's a great thing to think about for all beliefs. "If you truly believed that the building you were in was to set fire, wouldn't you want to tell everyone in that building to get out!" I truly believe everything that the Bible teaches and so I'm going to share that with everyone in everything I do until I die. That's what I'm called to do. Again, if you don't want it, please don't watch my videos.
  6. It truly is fascinating how literally a 14 second moment in my video stirs so much adversity. The fact that scripture can cause that type of response is truly remarkable. I was not planning on this post to be about these issues, it was merely a post about my YouTube content and the gear I used to capture it. I honestly forgot the scripture was even in the video. I am glad it's there. It's unique. and its me.
  7. Exactly. My demographic or "target market" is christian creatives. So I am perfectly fine with being blatantly Christian. Im sorry if it offends. If you don't like, don't watch my videos. Thanks man! I just have been having troubles with staying locked in focus. Autofocus would help tremendously. To each their own. My idea is that NOBODY is doing this. There are no "Christian" MKBHD or Philip Bloom's. My idea is that the "niché" within a "niché" will payoff in the long run. Plus if they are actually really good reviews, maybe people who aren't christians will see it and make them think a little bit about more than just tech or cameras. Im not trying to convert people. Just go a little deeper than just material things. Again, if you're offended by this...don't watch them. This site is built on opinion and we all come here for your opinion and review Andrew and I'm so thankful for it. Without that freedom we wouldnt have this place to share and discuss.
  8. Tell story's of course! thanks! I love em. 28mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2.8. They are all the nice small ones. Haha! Thanks man. I'm sorry you didn't like it. But I'll continue to make them and will continue to be myself in them.
  9. I have been diving into YouTube and am excited about putting out more and more content. My two cameras now are the Canon G7X II which I use for Vlogs and my Canon 1DC. I have a Love/Hate relationship with my 1DC. I really really wish I had autofocus but every time I look at the IQ I am so happy. Clog is what I shoot on and thats it. I have shot on the EOSHD flat profile and used the Canon EOS Utility app on my Mac to control focus and settings for studio stuff and that helps a bit (You can't use any autofocus while in Clog) By the way...the video below has "sharpening" in post. I put it on there but its too much. Going to tone it down next time. When I am fully operating the camera it is great! Especially at my full time job where I am creating YouTube content for someone else. Operating the camera is a breeze and with a Zacuto Gratical EVF on top I get all the video camera things I need like Waveform and Focus Peaking. My CONTAX Zeiss glass always looks so great. I am converting everything to 4K ProRes LT to save space and to run better. Its annoying but its ok. I just set it and let it run while I do other things at work. Im doing one video a week for Anthony ONeal and plan on continuing to use my 1DC for it. IDK what to do. Really want something with AF but also with a flip out screen that shoots 4K. Considering the GH5 but am waiting for NAB..
  10. I have read every page of this thread and have loved creeping in. I love the idea of shooting Vlogs and YouTube content with this camera. The fact that color grading can be avoided completely by shooting "baked in" makes me happy. QUESTION: Are these new firmware upgrades going to address the usability of AF in video for the XT2? Im sorry if I misread the press statements and the discussion in this thread. I just am not seeing anything that clearly states that PDAF will be improved with the new firmware. Face and Eye tracking would be fantastic in 4k. Isnt it only in 1080p at the moment? If PDAF with Face tracking happened in 4K on this camera I dont see why it wouldnt be the go to camera for daily vlogging until something else comes out with a FLIP OUT SCREEN! **Shoot me** PS: Why the heck wont anyone make a camera with good AF...that shoots 4K....that has a flip out screen. SO much YouTube content is made by people who shoot everything themselves and right now still the only option for Vloggers and self shooters is the Canon Lineup that has a flip out screen but it isn't 4k! And the 1080p is soft on the 80d, M5, etc. **Shoot me again**
  11. Ive thought about C100 mkii for sure. Maybe NAB will give us a C100 mk3 with 4k.
  12. Thanks Andrew! 4k is important to me. Ya...you're right. My 1DC is such a jewel. The 1DX II is too far out of my price range. What about getting a used a6300 or something for cheap 4k vlogging? The M5 video compression I am seeing looks pretty terrible. More so than even the 80d. I would rather get a Canon 80d than an M5 I think.
  13. I'm shooting YouTube content. I want good autofocus. I want something I can Vlog with and shoot great stills with. A7R II seems like the best for me but I romantically love my 1DC still. I'm fighting the love I have for it but know that practically the Sony is a better option. Should I wait for NAB? I have an opportunity to literally just trade my 1DC for an a7R II. I can't do a7S II I need good autofocus
  14. To me success in filmmaking is when I actually finish it and get my expression out. My skill will continue to grow over time but success shouldn't be measured by an award. I believe it's a personal thing really. In 20 years YouTubers will be recognized by the Academy though. The Emmys will be first.
  15. That 14mm 1.8 is the most interesting to me! Truly an unseen focal length with that aperture! Going to produce some really unique looks on a full frame image!
  16. Buy a used 1DC. Has the best image of any camera in that price range I've ever used. https://www.ebay.com/itm/142284537672
  17. Found this by searching 1DC on Vimeo. WOW!! GORGEOUS material here.
  18. Ya it was out of focus. Due to time I just left it. I didn't have time to go back and reshoot
  19. Thanks man. Im starting a YouTube channel actually. Wanna start posting videos more regularly. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFyIEjsL3T-Bn5xZEKYVvqw I love that. So simple. So great. Im seeing a pendulum swing back to Canon from my colleagues who switched to sony recently. Those Canon colors are so great and the Canon cameras are really well thought out from a users perspective. The reds and blues can be a little weird though when you actually just need red or blue colored things to look natural and not skintone as your priority.
  20. Wow this post is getting some great comments. Thank you for taking the time to weigh in. My saying the C100 is done was an exaggeration for sure. Its a great camera and we have two of them here and use them every day. By no means is it done. However, I wouldn't buy one new or even used unless it were just a B cam. I shot a feature doc last year that had a limited theatrical release and some of the best shots on the big screen in it were shot with the internal C100 in Canon Log. Its totally still great. I was just exaggerating. C100 mk2 is much much better and I didn't have one to test otherwise I would have added that too. 1DC is such a freaking LOVE/HATE. I think if you think of it more as a RED or Blackmagic Cinema Camera and not a C300 you can enjoy it more. Its pure image goodness. Nothing else. And for what it is and for what it does...I don't think its comparable to anything else for the price it is currently second hand. I freaking love it and I cant wait to see what it looks like on the big screen when we finish this second doc. C300 mk2 is the best ever. If you can afford it....its the one to get right now. I wish the slow motion options were better...but from an ease of use standpoint and at an image standpoint...we love it and are thinking of getting one or just continuing to rent it.
  21. I had some free time today and so I went into the studio and did some tests. They aren't very proper and they aren't the best in the world...but hopefully this will help someone out there! I used some of the EOSHD Canon picture profiles for the 1DC part so check that out! I am by no means a professional colorist. I tried to balance the images best I could in Resolve. You will notice that some shots are a tad blurry....I'm sorry about that. I had continuous autofocus on. Here are my findings: Canon 1DC: It's totally still relevant. The fact that this camera came out in 2012 and is competing with the new C300 mkii is incredible. Official Canon Log: Is great. It grades really nicely and is really clean and natural looking. Totally recommended. The 4k 4:2:2 8bit is much better than the 1080p 4:2:0 of the C100. EOSHD C-Log: Its good for sure but not as good as built in Canon Log on the 1DC. I need to play more with it but I had some troubles with it. Other EOSHD profiles: These are fun! I love the Monochrome one a lot! C100: Its done. Too old. Image is soft. Has terrible artifacts. Built in codec is total crap. Get this guy out of here. Wide DR if handled properly could be a good profile to shoot most things on. Its not too flat so the low bitrate doesn't fall apart as much. C300 mkii: This is the best camera of the three (as it should be) but not by much in relation to 1DC! Canon Log and Canon Log 2 aren't very good. Canon Log 3 seems just about right as far as nailing the color science. Everything balanced really nicely and looked great. 4K 10Bit really holds together nicely when grading. I thought 1080p 12bit would be stronger...but I really didn't notice much of a difference between it and the 4k footage. Slow motion: It's OK. There are other cameras coming out that have better slow motion abilities. To go past 60fps you have to crop in on the sensor by 2x which turns the crop from being 1.4x (Super35) to 2.8! That's more than micro four thirds.
  22. I am reminded of the magic of the camera every time I do a shoot with it. No it was at a dance studio in East Nashville
  23. Canon has threatened ML if they touch the 1DC they will unleash their lawyers on them. It will more than likely never happen unfortunately. http://www.eoshd.com/2013/01/1d-x-has-traces-of-1d-c-firmware-but-magic-lantern-will-never-touch-1d-series-as-canon-threatens-potential-hackers-with-legal-trouble/
  24. I did a shoot yesterday with my 1DC and Contax Zeiss glass and loved the results. It was a nice reminder how great it is. Low light, color science, and full frame all great on it. Such a clean but beautiful image. Still gonna hold onto the 1DC until I do proper GH5 tests.
