  1. You guys are awesome. Great advice. I agree 100%.
  2. I love my 1DC. I pre ordered a GH5. I feel like it'll be a serious competitor and a true "upgrade" in a lot of ways.........but I can't get away from that OH MY GOSH so beautiful mojo my 1DC makes. But if the GH5 is a serious upgrade then I would love to sell my 1DC and Zacuto Gratical (lack of focus peaking tool). Every dollar counts for where I am right now in life trying to pay off debt and move to LA Im not making any rash moves until I get my hands on the GH5 and do some tests but would love to hear your thoughts.
  3. This is a great thread because I have been thinking about this myself. For video I think for zoom lenses (especially with IS) there is none other better than Canon. For IQ on digital sensors, I personally love using vintage glass. I own a set of contax Zeiss lenses that perform so well on canon, Sony, red, everything. So my ideal kit is: Canon: 16-35, 24-105, 70-200 with a full vintage CONTAX or Leica R prime kit.
  4. 1DC with my contax Zeiss 50mm 1.4 all c log
  5. Indeed it is! Haha. Ben is a good friend
  6. Hey guys. Wanted to share a recent project I directed for a company here in Nashville called Ramsey Solutions. They teach people how to handle their money and get out of debt. We did a series of videos for their personalities for Christmas campaigns. Below are some BTS shots and screen grabs from the shoot. Here is a link to the peice: Password: 1234 We shot on the Arri Amira and used Cooke S4i primes. I graded the project with Color Finale in FCPX. The green screen stuff was poorly shot and we used a C100 so the shots of Rachel are pretty muddy. We had a pretty minor budget but the project turned out pretty cool! LMK what you think and if you have any questions. And yes I was rocking a dirty stache at the time
  7. Shoot everything at 1080p. Don't shoot yourself in the foot with 4K. Although I do like shooting ceremonies at 4K for the post crop. Canon skin tones are the best. Even a used 70d would be better than Sony IMO. The C100 mk1 and 2 are the best cameras for weddings IMO. I've shot a few recently with C100 mk1 and my 1DC and it's super nice. Here's a teaser I did with 1DC/ C100 combo: You MUST MUST MUST remember that wedding films are CONSUMER PRODUCTS. DONT EVER FORGET THIS. THIS IS 6 years of experience and over 300 weddings shot of experience talking to you. These people aren't professional filmmakers. They aren't producers. They aren't film snobs. All they want is pretty shots of them on their big day. If you shot it all with a t2i and a 50mm 1.8 they would love it because it looks "cinematic". Don't get caught up with the gear when it comes to shooting weddings. That's the biggest waste of time and money. The couples simply don't give a shit. I hope you enjoy it. Weddings are a fantastic way to get lots of experience and become a ninja shooter
  8. And yet in spite of all the negatives against canon that would clearly be a deal breaker on other camera manufacturers to not include, Canon cameras continue to prove they are workhorses that produce very pleasing results. Kinda like the new MacBook Pros :P
  9. The a7 and modern Sony cameras sensors in general are simply incorrect. They don't look right.
  10. Wow! Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
  11. Same here dude. Believe me I tried but the musician wanted the grade to look like that.
  12. YES!!! Our audio guy was so pissed about that fan for the interviews. He got a room tone with the fan noise in it so he can paint it out in post but kinda a pain that he has to do that. Without the fan the camera started to overheat after like 10 minutes and it wasn't hot where we were at all. Ya the DR isn't the best in the world but its fine. But you can see in some of the blown out spots in the images above that you're right the hot spots do look "digital"
  13. Here are some rough graded screen grabs from our shoot. All shot RAW Cinema 4K to 4K ProRes HQ. Also, here is a DB link to the ungraded TIFFs: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xltljff7euy65iq/AABIShq-mPu2YdYVmLRqpRUIa?dl=0 I included a chip chart on some of the interview setups too if you guys wanna have a crack at it.
  14. We shot this whole thing with the 1dc and Leica R glass. Really loved that. I personally own a set of CONTAX Zeiss lenses and love the look they create.
  15. I'm still hoping on seeing a proper 1DC mkii. Are there any rumors of this happening? Have we categorically heard from Canon that the 1DX II is the upgrade to the 1DC? Canon has new Cinema upgrades that would be nice to add to a 1DC II like Canon Log 3 gamma and Wide DR picture profile. I use old manual lenses on my 1DC so autofocus isn't a huge deal to me but is a nice thought for VLogs and steadicam/ gimbal use.
  16. The C500 is way sharper and cleaner than the 1DC 4K and I'm sure it's because of the lack of compression of course. The C500 image I'm looking at is one of the best images I've worked with next to Amira. I'm convinced for sure. Really cool stuff. I haven't noticed the noise or aliasing but I've just been looking at dailys on my laptop. Need to see a proper image on my 27" 5k iMac. Going to upload some screen grabs here today.
  17. Sorry for the miscommunication. I meant slow to work with as in the camera itself moves slow. It boots up slow. Using the odyssey recorder is clunky. It feels like an old camera for sure. The sensitivity of the camera is really good!
  18. I shot this for a company that owns the footage so unfortunately I can't share files with you but I'll post some screen grabs from it on Monday. The camera was so slow. All the old C cameras are slow. But the image from the C500 is undeniably great. We only shot to 4K ProRes HQ as the editors at the company I worked for aren't ready for raw and the turn around needs to be quick. From the dailys I've seen the footage from the C500 with Odyssey looks better than any Epic MX footage I've shot in the past. Idk why we never rented this camera before on RED shoots. I think the RED name holds a lot of value to producers. Idk. But this forum really encouraged me to branch out and try these old slow cameras. I recommend you guys do too!

    C500 shoot.

iThis is the first shoot I've done with the C500. The images coming off the camera are incredible. Using the whole range of original Canon C cameras! So fun.
  20. I'm trying to figure out the best anamorphic solution for the full frame-ish cinema 4K 1DC. I've been looking at the SLR adapters but I'm a little lost on all this. Plus the math on the Cine 4K aspect ratio vs. the traditional 4:3 or 16:9 is throwing me off. Any suggestions? Thanks
  21. Thank you! It was a lot of work but was done in my spare time since it was more of a passion project thing. so I had fun with it. Thank you! My buddy Ruslan did a remix with the song that I really love too: Thank you! Check out another music video I did that's really similar if you liked Wildwood
  22. Its not bad. Try this profile. Its the best. Its so good we are calling it "SuperLog" Black Level: 0 (it's disabled in s-log2 anyway) Gamma: S-log2 Black Gamma: Range- Narrow, Level -7 Knee: auto Color Mode: sgamut3.cine Saturation: +32 Color Phase: -2 (this is for a7sII, for original a7s use -5) Color Depth: +6 (all of them) Detail: -6 Expose 1.5 to 2 stops over.
