@ Luca: Do you know anything that we all don't know regarding Samsung's plans?

The news that I can find are those that you can find in the internet, the Samsung is at the center of a corruption investigation, the big boss is in a coma in 2014 and his son to get the maximum power resulting from the merger with other companies, it seems that he corrupted the president of Korea.
Samsung has never released an official statement of closure of their cameras, they were told they had to move resources toward smartphone department, and that's exactly what they did.
The Samsung is a giant that moves 7% of the GDP of Korea and has to make money, but they are also very proud and competitive environments, each product is built to be the best of the competition.

Some of us are still waiting for NXL's from the first batch in the mail. Anybody who thinks they can get one second hand at a reduced price is dreaming.

I think you're right, thanks for your patience!

Is there anybody about to sell NXL-v.1 in order to purchase NXL-v.2 ? Please contact me, I'd be happy to purchase v.1 at some price discount point.

Does not exist a version 1 and version 2, each NXL is an evolution of the previous one, who has more patience will have a product tested and improved.

Can you mark the new release with a v2 at least? So I know I buy the latest version and not the old one.

Yes I too hope Samsung stops being fools and restart production of their new camera.

Yes, the currently version in crowdfunding which is in production will be the V2.

@lucabutera are we going to have a mkII (discounted) version?!

I Spent many nights to create the NXL, I started with a vision and with the contribution of all those who have bought and tried I could improve it.
The boards of all were useful, I alone could not test it with all the lenses and detect the defects, a project carried out in crowdfunding is this.
To answer your question, I must tell you that in reality this would be the Mark XXX version, but I prefer to stick to the NXL version.
Currently, the construction costs are very high because it has made in Italy and in a limited number of pieces, so I can not reduce the price, but it remains a good investment given the rarity of the piece, maybe will be revaluated as anamorphic lenses.

ALSO I AM SURE THAT SAMSUNG RESUME PRODUCTION OF CAMERAS JUST HAVE INTERNAL PROBLEMS SOLVED AND REORGANIZED THEIR COMPANY.

Here's what I tried. It changes the iso from 100 to 800 after one sec. Correct value should be the 1/framerate, I think. But even with 1 sec it crashes when recording video.

    #!/bin/bash
    while true
    do
        /usr/bin/st cap capdtm setusr 5 0x50001
        sleep 1
        /usr/bin/st cap capdtm setusr 5 0x5000a
        sleep 1
    done

Do you try to shot in 640x480 in vga or mjpeg to see if the problem is the bitrate?

Double checked again without the lens hoods, it doesn't start suddenly but starts becoming noticeable around 150mm on my Tamron 70-300. By 300 it is clear and obvious, on the 400 f/5.6 the corners become almost completely dark.  Different lens designs may make it show more or less, for example it definitely shows less on the 400 f/2.8 than on the 400 f/5.6.  I'll try to post sample pics sometime later today.

This is possible, each lens has a different design in its interior.
I have never encountered this problem.
Have you tried the lens with Canon 5Ds? No problem vignetting with it?

Hey everyone, I'm mostly quite happy with the NX-L, but it has a problem with telephotos >~100mm.  I'm not sure if it is something avoidable with the design or not (probably not without using something other than glass?), but it has very strong vignetting in the corners, with my 70-300 (not really noticeable <100 but definitely there by 150), my 400 (5.6), my other 400 (2.8 and the issue is a bit less severe), my 500, and gets worse of course when used with a TC.  Sharpness is actually rather good.  I know I should still give you guys a more full review, we'll see how my time in the next few days.  One thing that I'm not sure if it has any noticeable effect yes is that there is some play int the part that rotates, the rotation is essentially fine I think, but I mean it can be move in and out ever so slightly, is the same on both copies.  Found a few interesting flares, but that lens may flare like that anyway, I haven't done a side by side sort of flare test (NX1+NX-L+lens vs. 5DSR+lens) yet.

This is strange, I test it with 70-200 Canon, you've tried to remove the lens hood?

Looked a bit into it, basically you can't "reintroduce" lost details, but you may interpolate some information.
Isn't this essentially what just about any "remove JPEG artifacts"  algorithm does?

What you say is correct, but all the programs that I use to eliminate macroblocking and artifacts, blur the image to "soften" the color, this algorithm instead also recovers the definition lost by the compression.
Certainly it is hard to think of a recovery of 4.4.4 sampling but have a more realistic 4.2.2 would not hurt!

  9. In the review of Enna, in the image of comparison it is very visible the difference in Deep of field between the cup with the flower in the foreground and behind the plate and glass.
That shot with NXL is very similar to Full Frame look.

@sondreg and @Kisaha and others have expressed that I share some of my work with the NX-L. Obviously Enna is probably going to supply us with a sweet review, but I guess I can post some of my work with it so far as well. I've shot tons of stills with it (if people want to see some of those, let me know) as well as several video projects that I can't really release yet since I'm still in post with the clients, but here's one I can realease that I shot entirely on the NX-L (except for the wide angle/gimbal stuff, that was a NX500 and 12mm on a zhiyun crane), but apart from that everything in this video shot with the NX-L and rokinon 85mm. At the very least it shows off the dreamy full-frame look the NX-L provides as well as clearly maintaining sharpness and detail. I'm also happy to answer any questions. Once again, @lucabutera has done an absolutely amazing job with this wonderful piece of kit. Anyway, here's the vid:

I am watching in 2K, and everything seems just right! The only thing I can't explain, is a slight "tremble" in the stabilizer shots, is this the Crane or warp stabilizer?

Luca for sure did a great job, and over-achieve; where Metabones people said it wasn't even possible.

Bravo Luca! You beat a whole world leading company on your own!

I have an unusual request, can you upload a picture of the NX500/12mm? It must be a really interesting pair, especially for gimbal work, but for B cam as well.

    Thanks for posting.

Thank you all! If today some of us have a chance to see samsung nx1 with full frame eye is thanks to your financial support.

You honestly might just get the KineMAX 6k for a similar price tag and enjoy 6k RAW video or 2k 200+fps

The price of Kinemax has increased a lot, but there is always the option of buying an excellent BM Ursa!

Gh5 is better on specs, but with that smaller sensor... We'll see.

A7s2...I would not trade my nx1 for it, being mainly a stills guy.

But Gh5 shoot in burst mode h265 6k 10bit 4.2.2 with Metabones speed booster it's as aps-c sensor, but no cheap solution.....

I don't know if you noticed, but it seems there's "official" support of K-mount and one other "unknown"

[root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr LENSMOUNT
    UserData is LENSMOUNT_NX_MOUNT (0x590000)
    UserData is LENSMOUNT_K_MOUNT (0x590001)
    UserData is LENSMOUNT_UNKNOWN (0x590002)

Samsung start with Pentax K mount! Maybe the code is the same?

Well... some bad news, the source I got 29mm from seems to be a typo, it seems the flange is only 20mm, which is still more than M mount, but that is very little space for the adapter.  It will definitely have vignetting, lots of it ^_^.  Maybe not too bad at some focal lengths though, not sure on that.  When I'm back home I'll check out the protocol as best I can, no need putting in any time until I do that.  Maybe the chip won't even be working, the camera shop I got it from had nothing to try it out on.

The NX-Ls have arrived ^_^.  Unfortunately they came through Q-post on this end, but luckily my brother was still home and was able to pick them up for me, only made it by like two days as he is flying here tomorrow.  I asked him to bring one with him so I'll get to use it on this vacation ^_^.

I know, the flange focal distance in Canon VL mount is 20mm on Canon Eos-M is 18, we have 2mm to make adapter, this will be slim like a Nikon/Eos approx, but the minor distance is better to reduce vignetting, because the rear glass of lens is near the sensor and cover more the corner of the sensor. The electric pin will be the next step after test.

p.s. I wait to see your video shooting with NXL turbo booster!

    Marry Christmas.

No, the VL Eos adapter goes the other way

    EF lens -> adapter -> XL1 or XL2 camera

I mentioned it only in regards to the XL cameras apparently using the same EF lens protocol for lens/body communication.

What I'm looking to do is

VL lens -> apparently non-existent adapter VL to EOS M with electrical contacts -> EOS M camera

In fact, I can't find a VL adapter to any other mount, not even C-mount, probably because VL aperture is set electronically (just like EF... probably exactly like EF).  .

Even in this case, results will not be very good, because the lens has a very small image circle, for like a 1/3" sensor or something.  I would try it but I don't have the machining tools to make the physical adapter.  I did go ahead and buy the lens as it was quite cheap.  I'll try wiring it up and see if it talks back to the Arduino just like the EF lenses or not (it's possible Canon did something more than just a pass through connection in that adapter).

Ok. Certainly build a mute adapter for Canon EF lenses Canon VL-M body is theoretically possible (I have to check the diameters and graft rear overhang).

This could result in vignetting, Sure that Canon lens is not able to cover the aps-c sensor (No one has tried this before).

Then you can assess whether it is possible to communicate the camera with the lens and if it is worth investing time and money on this interesting project.

Hey Luca, I have the chance to pick up an 8-120mm Canon CL VL lens (for their film/analog video cameras).  From a cursory look it seems that the mount has the same pinout as EF, and at one point Canon sold an adapter to put EF lenses on these film cameras.  Now, it makes no sense to try to go from these CL/VL lenses (29mm flange) to EF mount, but it seems like going to EF-M mount should be very possible and with the electrical contacts it might just work without any chips needed in between.  I'm aware that the image circle is much smaller than APS-C for this lens, but with the new M5 at 24 MP a pretty good crop is more feasible than it once was.  I'm curious if you would be interested in making a one off adapter for that, PM with a rough price if you are.

This lens is  near to MFT sensor but is possible try this crazy experiment! You can use this combination VL Lens -> VL Eos adapter -> Eos to Eos-M smart adapter -> Eos-M camera. But I do not the final result as well.

You should see how the regulation goes, I think there might be some differences if you buy from EU or outside EU because Norway is in the EEA.

I send NXL as a letter, so as not to pay customs duties!
