  1. I've been trying to work with GH4 after moving from NX500. First of can somedody explain to me what is the purpose of favorite (star) flag for a clip if it's only marked in camera?
I've checked the file before and after making it favorite with ExifTool and there is no difference whatsoever .
The only display layout that shows the "star" dosn't even show file name, I have to switch back and forth using [DISP.] to get that information.
After that I've tried Android app thinking it surly has to give me all info about the clip given extra few inches of screen, nope haven't seen favorite symbol anywhere.
Am I missing some crucial key press or it's just how things work in Lumix's UI interface engineer heads.

After using Samsung the trimming feature in GH4 is a joke, clunky as hell, and you have to unfavorite a file, go back to menu and select devide tool, go back to video and fast forward becouse you can't even drag the slider. Then more good news, find the half that interests you, beginning of the old clip will stay inplace and second half will be created as last file on the card.

Please, can someone advice me on how to find, cut and mark parts of clips in an efficient manner?

  2. My question relates to a setup: Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 with a Lens Tubro II or Speed Booster ULTRA on GH4 body:

As far as I know there shouldn't be any vignetting with GH4 + Speed booster ULTRA @1080. Would adding a 77 mm slim filter itroduce vignetting? Do I need to add step-up ring to use filters with this setup?

    For example a protective filter like B+W 77mm 007

The hack has a little bug I found. There is no audio recording in 25P/30P/50P/60P mode. I selected the regulair option, not the fast/slow motion ones. Anyone else have this problem?

    Which one NX-Patch or KS?
NX-Patch v5.3 on NX500 work fine for me, no issues with audio.

    Use @vasile's hack.

Exactly. Than see my answers below.

Answers below are only for vasile's NX-Patch!

I'm trying the BT hack. So basically when you set a bitrate the "current bitrate" this will applied to all the resolutions? Will it stick through reboots?
I would like to set a bitrate for 4k and one for 60p and 120p, seems like "HD PRO" is for both fps?

Bitrate slots will be applied according to this table

OK so I tried to understand, if I set 150Mbit for "4K Pro" it applies to all 4K and FHD framerates. Is that correct?

Slot pro1 on NX1 is for all 4K, UHD and FHD* (*only when shooting over 30 fps) PRO quality setting (see table above). You can actually use hq1 or nq1 slot for a higher bitrate if you want to.

also it doesn't remember the settings, you need to apply the setting each time the camera turns on and off.

Use make persistent in NX-Patch menu to save bitrates to flash memory, this will make them persist between reboots. Otherwise they will only be kept until power off, then they will return to previous values.

I am curious why did you decide to 3d print it, since cnc milling can reach under 0.01mm accuracy these days? Is the geometry that complex?

Setup cost is higher for CNC, plus most shops won't even give a quote below few thousand pcs. CNC gets cheaper with high volume production.

I've been briefly reading into this, and it seems that for canon lenses, if you can provide a 6V power source, the motors will be fine. So can the NX output 6V? Probably. You may need a voltage divider or a (rechargeable) battery in the adapter.

That would be probably a level shifter rather than a crude voltage divider.
The power needed to run the conversion logic is so low that it shouldn't be a problem to just take it from camera body in the final revision of the intelligent SB (not running inefficient ATmega).

I'm not an ingeneer, but...if ihkim could control BOTH nx AND ef with arduino, then couldn't a conversion be done among the protocols?

Probably more along the lines of FPGA or an ARM (ultra low current Gecko maybe). Note that I haven't looked at the communication protocols so I don't know if it's a matter of simple lookup table or how much more number crunching needs to be done.

    Hi guys!

I'm a new member of NX1 family. I just got my camera but I'm  still waiting for the adapter (Nikon lens only).

I've been following this thread for months and now is the moment to hack the camera I just got. Is there any guide or step by step to install the hack? I'm thinking to install Vasille's. I'm just interested in the bitrate modification. The card I'm going to use will be "Samsung Memory 64GB Pro SDXC UHS-I".

For now I can only update the firmware :P

I've posted this literally two days ago:

Samsung's SD card wouldn't be my first choice, better get Lexar 2000x or a Sandisk (I did get SanDisk Extreme 256 GB SDXC for NX500 as an warehouse item)

  8. 1) download: https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/blob/master/nx-on-wake/nx-on-wake.zip

    2) follow HOW TO instructions precisely: https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/nx-on-wake

    3) check if you get 2 long then 3 short green LED blinks after Power ON

    4) download https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/raw/master/nx-on-wake/nx-on-wake.zip

    5) follow HOW TO - INSTALLATION: https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/video-bitrate-mods/nx-patch

    6) Open/print/download this table so you know what bitrates to modify: TABLE

    6) Read HOW TO - USAGE/FEATURES part: https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/video-bitrate-mods/nx-patch

Maybe im a little slow but I am struggling to understand what I am looking at. Is this showing the max bitrate for each sd card ?

No. It shows maximum recording time with different settings before the camera freezes and the file becomes corrupted.

I know this might not have much to do with your original issues but the SanDisk SD cards seem to be inferior quality compared to many of the other manufactured SD cards out there, Lexar is Korean manufactured and have of course the Samsung approves invincible sticker on them, if you REALLY want the most stable SD cards with the Samsung camera get a Lexar card, mine runs very good at 160 - 180mbps but I keep the bitrate at 140mbps most time so I avoid dropped frames or corrupted frames which seems to occur at high bitrates

Thanks, the limit for 60fps is just lower here's a chart if you are wondering about the limit for different FPS & resolution combinations > CALC

Got myself SDSDXP-256G-GNCIN for my NX500, and after first video test it froze at 60:04 (mostly static scene) with:

Had to pull the battery, ON/OFF did nothing. Running NX-Patch v5.2. Cam was set to 1080p@60 70mbps (PRO - no changes made yet). The card was formatted in camera straight from the box - suspiciously fast. The file is of course corrupted.

Should I try to format it with SD Formatter or just return it and get Extreme PRO (I need 256GB, so not Lexar)? I was under the impression this card could handle higher bitrates?

    Testing a second clip now...

Can't keep the camera running even on USB charger (both with SAMSUNG's and NOOK 2.0A chargers) :( This is a new camera straight out of the box. Fully charged battery lasted about 2h of recording 1080p@60

  13. I've finally found a decent deal on NX500 and am now anxiously awaiting for my package.

In the meantime could someone post exact screen active area dimensions (width and higth please)? I know it's 3.0" AMOLED but how acurate is that? I want to order a plastic screen pop-up hood just not sure if I should get 3.0" (internal 60.58 x 44.36 mm, ext. 71.73 x 51.58 mm) or 3.2" avilable on Aliexpress (int. 67 x 45 mm, ext. 77 x 53 mm - might protrude a bit).

I am aware it will prevent me from flipping screen to selfportrait position, I just need the camera to spend a lot of time on a tripod and not shatter the screen when it falls over.
