Exactly! I wasn't complaining, but I wasn't exactly defending either... I participated in the discussions as a third person observer... And, all of a sudden... He comes in a says.... You get a weapon... You get a weapon.... You get a weapon..... Everyone that was on our side gets a weapon!!!!! (A la Oprah Winfrey-esque) I was like fuckedity fuckfuck fuck! Why didn't I say shit? I could've got a weapon... Play around with it for 6 months.... Sold it and buy a Scarlet-W and still made a profit!
-
There is an actual reason for that.... and I'm not making excuses... but once you know... I'm sure all of us will be kissing some major ass over there too. Not that I am.... I'm done with RED and that forum for now. May be in the future.... and even then I would rather rent than own. A couple of years ago... 2015/2016... the preorders for the Raven & Scarlet-W was not only backordered, but was going out of hand. Basically, what had happened was that there was way too many Raven orders for them to handle so they introduced the Scarlet-W with the incentive of those who switch from the Raven will get in line first, even if you were the first to preorder the Scarlet-W and wasn't even interested in the Raven. In other words, if you ordered the Scarlet-W straight, and didn't give a shit about Raven, I would be able to bud-in line before you if I switched my Raven order to a Scarlet-W. You can see why.... people were getting mad... on top of that.... people were getting impatient.... I think it was already 6 months in.... from preorder to delivery date. People were getting their Ravens, but slower than the Scarlet-W orders, because they prioritized Scarlet-W and Weapon orders..... I think they had 3 assembly lines and they switched every 2 weeks or month to speed up one process over the other or something.... So, complaints on the main forum started pouring in... slowly at first, then it started becoming a mad frenzy. There was may be 1 Red rep that was trying to provide answers and help calm the complainers, along with may be 5 or 6 people that was defending the brand and being loyal.... Within 2 to 3 weeks, Jarred Land came in and rewarded the 5 or 6 people with Weapon upgrades for free. All of a sudden, whether you were a Raven preorder or Scarlet-W preorder - those 5 to 6 people got Weapons instead. He became the Oprah of Cinema Cameras and people just shut up and started kissing ass.

I don't know who to believe here, but according to @Emanuel's site recommendation: https://photographylife.com/fujifilm-x-h1-vs-x-t2 The X-H1 does have dual processor... now how much of either processors is working on IBIS calculations, who knows.... but may be if we turn off IBIS, we can also engage 4K/60p & 10 bit... RAW through HDMI pretty please!
-
That 1080/60p may trip up in the X-T2 after the update. At which point, we will know that its all software and not hardware. For those that have a fuji X-T2, I suggest you film things now (date it) and repeat after the update. If there is an issue, you have proof to show Fujifilms corp.
-
With all these upgrades to the X-T2 - what 1.5 years after its announcement? I don't see why they can't do the same with the X-H1 - I mean - 4K/60p internal, 4K/120p external, 10bit 4:2:2 and RAW out..... Yes, it may take 1.5 years or more... but knowing that it can come in the future, its quite comforting. BTW, I wonder if the X-T2 will show the same aliasing/moire issues in Slow motion.
-
I say they correct their color issues, possibly add in DCI 4K and do what they did with the first generation A7S.... Deliver the rest externally..... Output RAW 4K/60p or better 4K/120p via HDMI (so that the new atomos ninja 5) or even better pull a card like BMD - USB-C output.
-
True, but if you can wait.... you can get better prices for the equipment that you are using now.... versus the prices for your equipment in September.
-
Ah come on guys.... we all know a cage, and other add-ons will hide most of its physical features.... why even care at that point?
-
It makes all hybrid/DSLR cameras prehistoric (dinosaurs). But I think its most relate-able to GH5 because of the m43 sensor and price is always a factor....
-
I normally wouldn't say this if its a $1500+ camera.... but its a sub-$1500 camera that has $8K+ camera capabilities.... If you make the mistake of putting it under water, freezing it or drowning it with sand... buy a new one!!!
-
I said it... didn't I? Anyway.... I'm super happy. But there has been some suprises so far... A73, X-H1, Z2 - Didn't see those coming. Still want to see what the other guys going to do to compete with the New Pocket 4K. I'm sure people at RED going - WTF???? 4K/60p RAW at $1295????
-
Lets hope that that is the case. But I'm afraid that he misread it and it was just M4/3 mount.

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018
mkabi replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Unless it costs $4750 for a firmware update.... -
Alright. Fair enough... But, assuming it's the same sensor and cooling.... Your assumption it's the same body. You forget that a 5 inch LCD TFT instead of 3 inch, SSD instead SD slot, 1/4" jacks instead of 1/8" jacks all play a part in internal real-estate as well as exteral shape & size.
-
Your assumptions are based on a 2012-2013 model and that there is zero innovation over at blackmagic... No new sensor, no new processor and no new cooling system... Even over at Canon they were able to figure how to put 4K from a 1dx2 to the m50. And, if your assumptions are correct... It's remarkable that after 5- 6 years that they can't figure out how..... I mean I don't even know how we even got from 240/480p to 1080p without a canyon sized camera.
-
I know there will be the 4K variety in there... And, may be a lower res. version... Preferably a higher res version. But, personally, I don't see a point for another 1080p camera... It's just redundant.... As redundant as having a 1080p version of the URSA/URSA Mini/Pro.... If we were to have a lower res. version please let it be the 2.5k variety.
-
*comment retracted* cause honestly.... we don't know anything under the hood.... its a sleeper camera with 4K symbol on it.

I knew I was waiting for something like this...

@DaveAltizer Has his review of the X-H1 up.... although, I feel like 70% is about its photo capabilities? Although, @DaveAltizer did a good job, even compared pictures from the 1DC with pictures of the X-H1. But where is the video to video comparison man? BTW, my picks are A-B-B. His answer is buried in deep in the comments section, amongst other viewers picks.... very interesting.

Sorry.... I had 2 rating systems. Which one is the above? And, can you do the other one too? Lastly, add a t2i in the mix. Anyone can participate in this.... My rating 1 (video vs cinematic): -GX85 - 4 -t2i - 6 -GH5 - 5.5 -GH5S - 7 -X-H1 - 7 -A7iii - 6.5 -1DXii - 8 -5D3 ML Raw - 9 Rating 2 (vintage vs modern using 6.5 and above) -A73 - 7 -GH5S - 5 -XH1 - 6 -1DXii - 5 -5D3 - 4 Again, there is no right or wrong answer here. And, its your personal opinion... sure you can totally piss on the other camera because you hate that brand for whatever.... but at the end of the day, if you send your stuff to youtube, film festival, whatever... people are going to either praise it for content or image quality and not care about which camera they used it on.... so.... who cares right?
-
@mercer Alright then... I feel like that answer has left me with more questions... so allow me to ask a similar question but in a different way. And, to be honest, anyone reading this can answer these questions. There is no right or wrong answer here. Can you rate each camera out of 10 - 5D3, GX85, GH5, GH5S, 1DXii, X-H1 & A73 on: Video-ish vs Cinematic Look: 1 - being most video-ish and 10 - being most cinematic I'm sure a lot of them of them will reach 7 and above so the next part is to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10 on Vintage-film look vs. Modern film look. 1 - being most vintage (although, I don't think anyone of them will be anywhere close to this side) and 10 - being most modern film look. And, obviously, you can manipulate the image before, during and after to make it the way you want it. So, ultimately, it wouldn't really matter.... but for arguments sake... SOOC of camera how would you rate the above mentioned cameras. I don't disagree with you... you can only go so far with the affordable equipment... thereafter you just have to move on... But, you don't learn to run before you crawl... If I give you an Arri body right now and say start recording in the next second... you're going to be like "Give me a few minutes." If I did the same with a cell phone, you'd be okay.... swipe-swipe ready! Check this out: Now lens, lighting, and all the other components matter too. The real question you should ask if the best image out of t2i/Gh2 is better or worse than the worst image out of an Arri? Cause obviously the best image out of an Arri is better than both worst and best image out of the t2i/GH2. Editted to add: may be not the worst image out of an Arri.... Cause you can really really muck it up if you are really determined to f-ing it up...may be just SOOC? It would be funny if the worst image out of an Arri is even better in the "Worse" category compared to the t2i/GH2.... they can't even beat an Arri in the worse category
-
@mercer given that you just made a good comparison on the cinematic look (with GX85 vs 5D3; 1DXii vs GH5/GH5S)... How do you feel about the images coming out of the A73 & X-H1 (the good ones, cause there are a whole lot of bad ones too)?
-
lol... I think an idiot user that Fs-up a cell phone video, can also F-up video coming out of an Arri
-
+1 And, its hard to explain to someone - what you are seeing and why its cinematic I honestly believe that it has a lot to do with what we've seen in the past... we are just used to it.... I'm guessing that the newbies that watch all their content on 240Hz HDR screens are going to find that cinematic.... but thats the progression of life... watch any current movie say the Revenant, then rewatch Scarface and you can tell that times have changed and what people consider cinematic (then versus now). BUT... there is a clear way of distinguishing video-ish vs. cinematic. Grab an old consumer camcorder (the VHS & DVD variety) - film random sh!t with it. Put the footage that you take side-by-side with your favorite movie - presto, voila! Instant comparison. The best possible result is if you try to emulate a scene from your favorite movie with the consumer camcorder, that way you have a direct comparison. Now, you have 2 extremes.... one side it will be the video-ish look and the other side is the cinematic look. Now, it is your job to take whatever tool you have (or want to invest in) and make it more cinematic - so you will have to travel away from the video-ish look and move towards the cinematic look.
-
Well... honestly... you can get really creative with it when you try it as a general purpose lens
