  1. I rarely have anything on my P4k other than old manual Nikon lenses. The 85mm f/1.4 is possibly my favourite. The 35-105mm zoom has a very poor reputation but is convenient and fun (and very cheap). I will add that although I have the Nikon primes from 24mm through to 135mm I rarely use most of them. So get a couple of decent examples and get out and use them!
  2. I read somewhere that Sony had an announcement planned for 20th April. But I might have imagined it. I could easily believe that I’ve been locked inside my house long enough for iii, iv & v to be obselete.
  3. This is bizarre and slightly tragic... https://afroditefilms.com/deadlyascorona An unfortunate response of someone (apparently) within the industry to the current crisis.
  4. I’ve got a mini ordered with CVP - I hope lots of people upgrade to the Pro!
  5. Not easy to get excited by a new product when we are all coming to terms with the new world and a new way of life. But Full Frame would be my guess. In a non-too-exciting form factor. I’d welcome a return to the BMCC2.5 philosophy. Build it like a tank. Make it do simple things. Well. (Unless BM have made a little add-on box - in milled aluminium obviously - that does everything-one-could-possible-want-a-little-add-on-box to do...)
  6. I hope Sony leave out IBIS on the A7S3. I know they won’t because it is such a consumer selling point. I personally don’t need/want it. In an ideal world they would offer two versions but as we all know this isn’t an ideal world... Thee are so many options for “proper” video stabilisation out there (from tripods to Steadicams to electronic gimbals etc.) that IBIS isn’t “necessary” although I see why it is desirable for so many people in so many situations (particularly photographic).
  7. Yes... but I’m not sure I want to drain my Destiny 2 playing batteries... Thanks - will look through the options.
  8. Given the heat generated by some of the recent threads this is rather prosaic. University lectures are now all online so I’m doing some filming to make this more interesting and attractive for the students (most academic staff here think an online lecture is making a pdf of a PowerPoint available...) Is there any easy way of using an iPad (mounted close to and above the camera), plus a remote device to scroll text to simulate an autocue? Just needs a simple start scrolling/stop scrolling function so the speaker maintains control. I can use my iPhone to scroll remotely text on the laptop but I’d rather use an iPad for the text. Happy to spend €€ but not for a proper autocue (€€€€). Yes, ultimately this is just “new toys” whilst being bored at home but at least it’s related to work...
  9. But don’t do this... I offered to film my wife doing a short (3 minutes) introduction to her immunology lecture next week (all lectures are currently online). Easy - a green screen and I had some serology testing footage for the background. Filmed it. Packed everything away. Opened Resolve... she was wearing a top with green stripes... Just finished take two...
  10. The elusive A7S3... presumably it will continue the tradition of the A7S series astonishing low light performance? I’m beginning to wonder whether I “need” it or should I just get an A7S2 (8 vs. 10 bit being the answer to that!) Regret selling my original A7S...
  11. Nothing like waking up in the morning for some upbeat, optimistic and joyful camera news!
  12. Works. It’ll keep you safe. But what happens when you decide to open the door and step outside... The “flatten the curve” approach has no obvious exit strategy.
  13. I was going to comment but not being American I’m not sure I’m allowed to...
  14. Sometimes it helps to comment on or discuss the content you introduce. Using the forum as a repository for videos which you have found (and, let’s be honest, others could find too) doesn’t develop a topic. Even providing something as simple as a justification of why you selected those particular videos would be interesting. Just my observation.
  15. American Express make quite a bit out of my cinematography and video work.
  16. The C200 is a camera I’ve always had an eye on and was thinking of getting one this year. But with the 1dx3, R5 (and rumoured R1 next year?) and now this (whatever “this” is) it’s less straightforward than I’d like. I’m attracted to the raw, AF, ergonomics, EF lenses & general usability of the C200. (Given I have a P4k which ticks the raw box, I’ll probably end up with an A7S3... a few extra € in my pocket and continued nightmares about ergonomics...)

If you are lucky enough to play with RED, Arri & C500 I think we should be asking you. Hawk-Woods might be one answer.
  18. Everything (and more) RED Hydrogen should and could have been. This will be a significant success although price & availability might have something to say on that...
  19. I’d use Canon camera straps if it would hurry along the A7S3...
  20. It’s an increasingly strange world we live in. Equality doesn’t mean every conceivable variation has to be represented in equal proportions in all events at all times... Generally the equality of opportunity is so much better now - by no means perfect but far far better than even a few years ago. And, in my view, it’s equality of opportunity which is the prize of a civilised society not the equality of outcome in one random event (and let’s be honest, such awards are hardly representative of the world - and it’s problems - as a whole).
  21. If I can’t get Telstar out of my head by the close of play I know where to find you... (well, I don’t, but I’ll endeavour to find out!) Edit: now I’ve started swaying to and fro...
  22. My primary interest is in filming the aurora borealis (along with a few promotional type bits’n’pieces I do for work - P4k is and should remain ideal for that). So the A7S3 was definitely top of the list for 2020. But... I might look at the 1dx3 if it’s low light capability (iso 25k sort of range) is satisfactory. The weather protected body and raw files appeal. And I’d possibly find an excuse for using the AF doing snowmobile/skiing sort of stuff. The price will be an issue. Once low light/high ISO footage from the Canon becomes available and, of course, assuming the A7S3 does indeed make it out of the shadows, then I will have a think...
  23. Sorry Julia, I don’t have time. I’m too busy writing the script for a 10 episode web comedy series in your other competition...
