GX85 has nice colors for sure. Shot this footage with contrast and saturation at 0, -3sharp, -5noise, in 1080p with automatic shutter and -1/3stop , oh, and accidentally with ISO 1250

Hallo Stephen, I´m using my lenses on s35, that is speed boosted m43. So having that f2 over f2.8 is indeed the desirable advantage I am looking for. Looking out for a Canon FD 28 f2 now. Great link and read. On m43 that lens would be more narrow than a 28mm on a focal reducer. C-mount wouldnt allow speed booster. I don´t know, if it would cover "native" s35mm. Thank you for the article. It was a great read! http://www.ebay.de/itm/Pentax-Asahi-Opt-Co-SMC-1-2-28-Lense-/201935691383?hash=item2f044e1e77:g:654AAOSw5cRZJbVB The "Hollywood" Pentax went through the roof again! There was a revised Pentax M version, I missed on bidding, which is even supposed to be better: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Pentax-M-28mm-f-2-manual-focus-lens-/272666168356?hash=item3f7c2b8c24%3Ag%3ArMcAAOSwKytZE1WS&nma=true&si=ksloQ3AY4H%2FmrNJTL3jOHqMZL%2FY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 This would have been the perfect 28mm luxury bargain, 250 USD only! Does anybody have experience with this carnation of the Zeiss/ Pentax "Hollywood"?

Darn! Missed an auction today. It sold with an 28-70 2.8-4.2 Macro and a 70 to something zoom for less than 35 USD. Was messing around researching for it too much! I think I will have to wait to pick another one up for that cheap! Great. I think I gonna give that beauty a try. Maybe the best bargain 28 F2 of the better quality ones, I would assume. FD glass is pretty awesome!

Yes, it´s Noams CineD setting. I think it follows the right "philosophy". So you´re shooting Cine D on a GX85? Wanna show some test footage with and without Noams Lut? One of the videos successfully showing off Cine D vs other profiles is this one. It uses good exposure, good white balance, good light and none of that bad grading, just well shot footage for comparison. This is the first video, which shown me the benefits of Cine profile.

My Kiron has a serial number starting with 7. It is Kiron/Kino made. Maybe the Komine made version is better. There are not that many 1 on 1 full resolution comparisons between these differently made lenses. Pentaxforums has been a nice source of information to me. For now, I will sell my Kiron and be happy with my FD 28 2.8 until that Pentax 2.0 crosses my way:) Or get a 28mm 2.0 Canon FD soon.
-
@Mattias Burling, did you ever get your hands around a Soligor 28 2.0? They are supposed to be made by Tokina and different from their Kiron counterpart, which is very soft and CA loving to my testing, about as good at 4.0 as Canon FD wide open at 2.8!
-
Hey Mattias! Thats an M-mount lens? A bargain for Leica lovers then:)
-
Great suggestion of yours: 35mm 2.0 on full frame! A 28mm F2.0 on speedboosted m43 would be like 39mm F2.0 on full frame! Close enough I would say!

https://phillipreeve.net/blog/old-new-zeiss-2-828-vs-sony-fe-228-vs-minolta-mc-228/ This is the closest I found when it comes to a comparison. It has the "old" Zeiss Distagon 28mm 2.8 vs the new Sony 28mm 2.0. The Zeiss 28 2.8 seems a great lens in its own right, with the 2.0 version having that little extra. Phillip also linked to a review of the "Hollywood" Zeiss, stating the nickname is deserved, beautiful Bokeh characteristics for close to distance transistions and interesting field curvage. This is an example of the wide open character in 24 MP of an A7: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jannik_peters/26124031323/sizes/o/

On S35 28mm is a beautiful focal length in my opinion! Since owning a GX85 I discovered that even more, because careful framing with it is a joy due to its ibis. So are talking about 35mm length on 36x24 sensor like the A7S you used to shoot some of the best A7S colors with? That would be like a 20mm on S35- beautiful as well! That modern Zeiss 28mm ZE is supposed to be a heck of a lens, for around 1000 USD though! The Sony with fly by wire focussing is supposed to be about equally as good when it comes to optical quality. Sounds great. I think I will do that. Heard good things about the Minolta too. Not sure if the Vivitar, Komine, Kiron and so versions are that different from eachother or if it´s just lens folklore and part of lensporn. By the way, different sort of bargain: www.ebay.com/itm/ZEISS-Zeiss-Distagon-T-28mm-f-2-ZE-Lens-Canon-Fit-MINT-Condition-/263007244223?hash=item3d3c740fbf:g:PmAAAOSwH09ZKiBI Shoot, out of likes! Lol Time big time!

@mercer, if it´s 1Gbps for 4K RAW, I´d be pleased with 250 Mbit for 2K RAW 12 bit for 24p and 10bit for 50/60p. Then I would sell all my stuff to get one. Good thing I don´t have to right now So future update for codec with higher framerate will be 10bit or still 8bit?
-
Cannot argue that:) But maybe I can. 4k Raw is too much data, old c100 codec with 420 8bit is just C100 territory. So best to buy a C100 II and a 5DIII

Hallo! I am a sucker for 28mm. My Canon FD 28mm 2.8 is a beautiful lens. Most of you guys have shot with one. Or anybody out there who has not tried it yet? Not possible! I´m shooting it on m43 with a Lens Turbo giving me beautiful S35 look. Wide open it is as good as the Rokinon/Samyang 24mm 1.4 at 2.8! But I am looking for that F2.0 magic. So I bought a Kiron 28mm F2.0 in brandnew condition. But boy, wide open it is not satisfying at all! I´ve read that the Vivitar 28mm F2.0 is a different beast but so was my Kiron supposed to be. The Vivitar 1.9 seems very soft as well. So any suggestions for the bargain shopper for a nice 28 mill 2.0? The Zeiss and Pentax lenses usually go way beyond the 400 USD mark. Maybe a Canon FD 28 2.0 will do. So what are your 28mm F2.0 super deals of the season? Something like: -Nikon 28mm 2.0 -Canon FD 28 2.0 -Minolta MD 28 2.0 -Vivitar 28 2.0 cheers

In Europe it´s about 8900 EUR, VAT included. That woud be a C100ii plus a GH5 plus a JVC LS300. First one having that DPAF, GH5 with 10bit and LS300 4K 422 with newest firmware. C200 with 4k 24p RAW plus 8bit 420 150/35mbit as codec sounds odd. Canon sure knows how to play the marketing game.

Exellent points made!

Thanks for testin this! Would prefer the optical doubler for better resolution. The light loss should be similar to the digital crop in the way that the smaller sensor area has more noise at the same aperture and ISO, which has been reported well about the Lumix Extele mode.
-
Now, would be cool if GX85 and lens are powered both by a vmount, if electronic support for lens is needed. Kinda looking pretty cool! @BTM_Pix, does the lens function without electricity, since it seems to have mechanical focus, aperture and zoom, beside the servo function? Does it cover UHD or HD with the doubler?

Cine D for GX85? How did you do it? Out of likes for today. Maybe you should give it another thread title...AWESOME: CINE D HACK for GX85! Finally Cine D for your GX85

Thank you, Glenn, but rather a 5 to 10minute piece:) I think they have a presence in front of the camera. But they are my collegues, not actors, so they might not want to appear in a longer version unfortunately. And I need a story worth of 5 to 10 minutes of watching, also spoken and audible:) dialogue. Well, for now, good night.

This is A League comic material: "I can replicate it every time...". Cracking me up, pure genius! But seriously, you have nice subtle color palettes. If there is irritation or falseness in color it is most of the time due to our monitors. Thats why I got a monitor with 99.9% srgb space and a cheap one with maybe 80% to have a little more control over color variation. Thank you very much, Jon! Maybe a longer version would make sense. Got any ideas for the story? Condition would be, same setting and location and just two actors, to keep it simple and manageable to realize in a run and gun manner. So, up for ideas to reshoot this? Maybe indeed with a third actor? Maybe with my GX80? Though G6 has something, some nice roughness to it once it´s been graded.

oh, oh, pricey rig. by the way, i also find this topic of a broader interest. what are the best handheld rigs for solo shooters on s35 or mft format cameras anyways, manageing manual focus and iris too, all as one man? So this zacuto looks like a great thing. But expensive for poor nonprofessionals:) And for real cameras:) Not putting down DSLMs, I´m myself a DSLM shooter:)

Hey guys, it seems your findings are not optimistic enough when it comes to the benefits of 10 bit in the GH5 for only 20% more data you get 3 to 4 times amount of shades. This example has been shown before and is showing the obvious benefits of 10bit in the GH5 versus its 8bit.
