Take those listings with a MASSIVE grain of salt, unless you first dig deeper into it.

Often a movie can be listed on there merely because a RED was used to shoot a few 6K VFX plates, but 98% of the rest of the film was shot with Arri Alexas. Or perhaps just a few seconds of aerial shots were done with a RED (which of course they'd now use an Alexa Mini for instead).

This. Most productions I work on are now shooting Alexa Mini where they may have previously been shooting Dragon.
Netflix now only want 4k acquisition. Alexa can't deliver that, though I've heard rumours that a true 4k Alexa is not too far off.
Seems most Netflix productions are now shooting Varicam or F55.
Considering a VaricamLT and Alexa Mini are priced similarly to a Dragon, I see no particular reason to go for a Dragon unless you desperately need 6k resolution. WIll be interesting to see how the Varicam/LT fare - one might imagine that a rental company that invested too heavily into these may be able to give you a good deal on them..

Interesting. I've been working (in post) on ads and network tv this year and so far it has all been Alexa. But I know Netflix won't accept Alexa. I find it the easiest image to work with in post by far.
The C300 Mk II really should be a lot better post-firmware update and at 13k it's a great deal. Most of my friends are not high end shooters, they have gone the C300 path, and they're working for Vice, etc. and still making really good livings. They got into the game later than the Red owners I know. That said, Red user is proof positive of how well that investment worked out for a substantial plurality of people.

If you want raw & HFR and your budget is around US$13K then look at the KineFinity Terra 5K/6K, you could get two even for that budget!

    Or a FS700/FS5 with an Odyssey 7Q+

Probably because until very recently owning an Alexa was prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of owner ops!
But with older secondhand ones showing up, and the Alexa Mini, the situation is changing to make it kinda affordable for some.

Tnx. The EF mount is a big step forward. The factories of adapters should not only build an adapter for all lenses because not economically convenient. But I am an Italian craftsman, then, considering the price, for obvious reasons, will be more expensive than mass-produced in China, I prefer that, who buys a NXL can use it with all the lenses, this is a great advantage because even if you spend a little more you can use it with any lens. In future I adding electronic controls and smart functions.

Can we get some chart tests with this focal reducer? Sharpness across all parts of the frame need to be accounted for. Also what about lens coating? Does this flare in direct light? Can you try it with wider and longer lenses.  I know the Metabones lenses have their focal length limits in particular with the Sony e mount adapters.

    Awesome work Luca!
Will it also work on the nx500? Should bring it closer to super 35 crop in 4k mode.

The EF mount that can then also be adapted to Nikon is a wonderful idea, in my opinion the best of both worlds really (that way I don't have to switch out all my FF rokinon EF glass for Nikon!)
So @lucabutera what's your current thinking on a production-run of these babies? Is some sort of crowd funding campaign necessary in order to scale up production and secure orders?
Let us know whatever we can do to help! Exciting times for Samsung-abandoned NX-users everywhere.

After much work and many sleepless nights, I have almost finished my work and I think I have brought the lens NXL to the point of being sold to the public.
I thought if the test this week will be positive to produce it with Canon EF mount dumb to which you can add a Nikon adapter with iris aperture control.
At this stage it allows to mount all Nikon and Canon lenses, in the future I will continue to work to enable the electronic control of the lenses.

I suggest that we use another topic to discuss the Speedbooster for the Nx1.
I know that we don't have much news about the hack development lately but lets keep on topic here, please.

@Marco Tecno I understand the effect but I want to understand the physics
So literally all the focal reducer is is a converging lens...

I don't think you will need FPGA or anything more complicated. The most complicated parts seem to be the setup of the lens in the nx protocol. After the setup section, it should be more or less straight look up.

There are some potentially useful files for the AF in the NX30 open source firmware, just do a search of the extracted files for "lens" to find some interesting stuff.  By my reading of the agreement when downloading the files I can't just tell you what's in there.  I'm not sure if it tells us much more than ihkim's work, but it might fill in some values.  If anyone doesn't know where to download those yet:
    http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=T&menu_item=photography&classification1=digital%20cameras
I don't remember if these were still in the NX1/NX500 released files or not, that firmware is on my laptop at work and I don't want to download it again at the moment.
Regarding my interest only in the Canon side of things, I own 0 Nikon lenses but quite a few Canon lenses, including now some long glass (400 f/2.8).  Any optical design for the Canon will work for Nikon with only some length extension to the housing, but not vice versa if the Nikon design used that space.  There are more Canon lenses that need the aperture control.  So yes, a bit of a selfish interest, but that's how it is.

I'm not an ingeneer, but...if ihkim could control BOTH nx AND ef with arduino, then couldn't a conversion be done among the protocols?

    As I'm reading blueringer,
My thought would be to model the adapter signals to the camera based on the nx lens that has the most features and fastest AF. Do you all think that is a reasonable idea?

    I want intelligent adapter since:
    1) no nx lens above 200mm
    2) I use camera mainly for stills
    3) I want af and ois
    I prefer canon since:
    4) many friends have canon, zero have Nikon
    5) I really like long canon tele lenses

ihkim's site is unfortunately not very intelligible for me through google translate.  While his English isn't perfect it is way way better than google translate and he seems to have set up another site (that is linked to from his blog) where he goes through what he knows of the protocol in English: http://blueringlab.com/
Unfortunately I have no interest in a speedbooster for Nikon lenses on NX.  For Canon lenses, yes, and such a design could be shared for Nikon lenses.  On the other hand though, a design for Nikon lenses that uses the extra space would not then work for Canon lenses.

And now today he's whining no one locked his account so he took that as a free pass to continue his BS activities. Kid even has nerve to say "it's your fault" "don't get a seizure about me helping people"..  I'm glad mods are finally taking a stance towards this punks behavior. I understand the are leaving his account open until situation gets resolved but really it should be restricted and his signature modified ASAP with a warning of his fraudulent activities. It's like giving a sex offender a slap on the wrist. You know it's a matter of time before dude commits crime again.. Seriously, the leniency given here is starting to give this site a bad look I'm afraid.. where is Andrew btw? he needs to step up & address this imo..

shane, the intelligent adapter has to be integrated into speedbooster for several reasons. Mainly, distance from sensor and light leaks.

I'm mainly a stills shooter, and long lenses are lacking for nx. If I wanted to use then manually, I'd already have bought a pentax k 300mm and the dumb adapter which sells since 2010 for nx.

Speedbooster (even the dumb manual one) will be a great step forward for video, but I will prefer an intelligent one 100:1.

I can't imagine using my Nikon mount Samyangs 1.5T Cine lenses with your speedbooster! Finaly great 35mm lens with ultra nice low light performance AND Fullframe like DOF!. The Same for my 85mm. And now I could actually have LESS lenses, because one lens work for two focal distances.

I'm not (much) interested in the iris control, but in af. I want to use 300mm+ lenses from canon for stills on my nx1. ihkim showed that this is feasible. One only needs to implement this ;-)
