at you are adding is a digital artifact, and when you apply compression you have the potential to add ugly artifacts.

Hmm...I tried installing it, and it says I already have it, meanwhile I tried DNXhr and seems to be good, but a huge file size, Ill reupload the video and post it here.

  2. So, just tried exporting, this may be a really dumb question, but I cant find ProRes.

I choose quick time, and theres only a few settings (1080i etc.) and if I choose "Rewrap" I get an error - "The source file's video stream is not compatible with this preset. Please choose a different preset".

did you see the semi-recent thread by kidzrevil about using grain for the web? Rich101 had an interesting post in it, not a hundred percent it works wonders, but he seems to have thought it through

    gorgeous btw, love your stuff

I remember seeing something like that.

Today Im gonna re-render it when I get home, most detail/sharpness is gone and the grain is mushy as hell and its not doing any justice to the cmera at all.

    Thank you :D

  4. Finally got a few minutes to do a little "trailer" of the wedding I posted a few pics of a few weeks back, here it is...It was "rushed" because Im really in a very tight schedule lately, hope you guys like it :

Let me know what you guys think !

Ps. I still havent figured out how to render properly, quality is destroyed when I upload it somehow..

I've been shooting gamma c at default contrast -10 sharpness and -1 / -2 saturation and wow. Blown away. These were shot with 16-235 but Today i am experimenting with 16-255 as I've read technicolor cinestyle used that range to optimize the image for the encoder. 16-235 remapped to 0-255 automatically in premiere and I assume the same would apply to the 16-255 footage ! for this look I did NOT use LUT's aS I noticed LUT's were exaggerating compression artifacts in the image even when denoising before applying the lut. I went old school and just installed my own toe and shoulder using curves and kept the curve in the midtone region linear. Using the zeiss milvus lenses it looks my theory is true. You can beat the in camera sharpening if you use a high contrast lens that can resolve up to 6k. I assume the noise reduction and sharpening algorithim sees the areas of the image are true detail and leaves those areas filled with fine detail alone. This camera deserves the moniker "baby red" because the image quality is stunning WHEN TREATED CORRECTLY.

This looks stunning ! Congrats !

  6. The best and easiest way to grade is adding the Lut as a baseline and then do all the adjustments needed (curves/exposure/contrast and so on), this is how I edit my footage.

Heres an exmaple of some test grades i've been doing for a music video.

  7. At loooooong last the very long awaited Sony A6300 has been announced (along with 3 sweet sweet lenses, that Sony E mount desperately needs).

These specs in particular are juicy:

new 24MP BSI sensor (yay, BSI!)
    11fps
    4D focus
4K 30fps video (no pixel binning 14 stops dynamic range, 100MPS)
    S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log-3 and S-Gamut3/S-Log3 profiles
    1080p120 slow motion
Under US$1k (I think this price is quite reasonable compared to what a GH4 or NX1 was when first released. Yes, I'd like it to be less! So I can wait, once a sale arrives or it shows up secondhand/refurbished that should shave off a few hundred dollars fo rme)
    Weather sealed body
    422 over HDMI
Switchable NTSC/PAL (phew!! Thank goodness for that)
    14bit photos
    Mic jack input.

I no longer want a Sony A7s mk1 secondhand (which is a similar, or greater, price), I think I'll hold out on seeing this A6300 go on sale instead! :-D

Seems way too good to be true ! Ill wait for samples, but so far looking amazing !

  8. James Miller did a couple of tests about using film grain from Film Convert & it sure looks as if you really need to pump it up between 90-120% for it to be noticeable on Vimeo - I think it should be a bit higher @ about 150%.

Also, its worth mentioning that when you upload to Vimeo its best upscaling to 2k & using ProRes Proxy.

    Here's his tests:

    ProRes Proxy version: https://vimeo.com/73032762

    H264 version: https://vimeo.com/73031258

How do you export as ProRes ?!

  9. Assuming you use the camera with no lighting kits we can all agree the NX1 is very bad in low light, worse than the old 550D.

I wouldnt agree with that, having worked with the 600D for years and now jumping to the NX1.

Firstly the NX1 is much more sensitive than the Canon, situations where I needed to go to ISO 800 on the Canon, I can easily stay at ISO 400 on the NX1. Even comparing it to the Nikon D800 video, the NX1 fairs much better, theres a lot less noise and banding and the image is still very crisp. Id even go as far as saying its only behind the A7 series, because its pretty much on par/better than any other 4k camera.

  10. n.m. found it on page 6. Those shots look amazing as well. Very impressed with what you're doing with the NX1. I am going to try your settings this weekend.

    Thank you :d

Glad you enjoyed it, let me know how it went =)

  11. I'm surprised the samyang 24 is smooth, my 85 is rubbish, which is why i wasn't tempted on picking any more of these (also large).

Now, the contax lenses, very smooth.

    They are very inconsistant,

I've tried the 8mm, 14mm, 24mm, 35mm and 85mm. The smoothest of them all so far, is the 24mm, then the 14mm also quite smooth. The 8mm was average and the 85 was quite stiff, but smooth as well. Also, both the 8mm and 85mm were rokinon, instead of samyang.

  12. looks great ! I hear sigma makes great lenses. How is the resolution and manual focusing on the nx1 body with this lens ?

Its probably the sharpest f1.8 lens I've ever seen, even superior to F4 L glass from canon, for example. The only thing I didnt like was the weight (810 gr) and the focus ring is incredibly smooth, but heavy, compared to my samyang 24mm f1.4, which has the best focus ring i've ever tried, very very light and very very smooth.

Still, this made me sell some of my gear, and get it asap, its really an amazing lens and when I have it, ill def. put up some more test images, I only tested it at night, so theres still much more to test.

  13. I've been dreaming about that lens in native nx mount with af and aperture controls... Would be so nice.

Great images btw. Really like especially how the third one looks.

Im getting the Nikon version, so that I can use apertura, but no AF. Its really amazing how sharp this thing is..

  14. Got to try the Sigma 18-35 yesterday, and I must say, what an amazing lens, incredibly sharp at 1.8, although a bit heavy and with a heavy focus/zoom ring, still an amazing lens.

Not much was put into the grading, just something simple, to test the lens !

Also took a few pics, though I dont usually photograph, heres one..

  15. @ ricardo....    Nice look. Could you say something about the Lens and your grading?

    Best regards

    Matthias

love your looks dude. What lens ? The wide angle shots look killer

^Meant to send this to Ricardo**

This is absolutely gorgeous. I too would love to hear about your settings and grading walkthrough on this. Is it similar to the wedding you you posted a few weeks ago? Bravo man. This is incredible!

Thank you all :d Im glad you guys enjoyed it.

Lenses used for this was the Canon 50mm f1.8, Samyang 24 f1.4 and the Samyang 14mm f2.8 for the wide shots.

Grading/camera settings was similar to the wedding settings I posted earlier, in fact, I havent changed my camera settings since then. The only thing Im not really happy about is the banding, which I am still fighting to eliminate.

I already tweaked this further, so Ill share a few later, and post the full settings =)
