Definitely its just that if I ask to much people wont write anything.
But your right I also would love to hear why, what display was used or pretty much anything extra, thanks
(and guesses of what cameras was used is always fun.)

I kind of feel it's a put up or shut up kind of thing. It's way too easy to be a critic of something deliberately stupid.
I get it if you don't like it. It doesn't work for me on some levels, but if you claim to be an Indy filmmaker and rip this a part, then seeing the accomplishments of the one doing the ripping seems like a fair request.
I mean, it's a labor of love sort of thing, so it deserves a bit of leeway, right?

    Here's how I see it,

This is where they make money.
    https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products

In every broadcast studio or mobile I've visited recently there has always been at least one BMD Product in the racks.
And their model of using as unified parts as possible is smart not only for keeping cost down but also it its easy to recognize and create a brand.
That's why their buttons, displays, connections and such look the same across all the products.
I spoke to a rep that said that they where in fact the worlds biggest customer of many components. Much bigger than Canon, Sony and even Samsung because they use the same in all products and that its the key to keeping cost down (I suspect this is one reason for the audio inputs on the BMCC and obviously why the BMOC looks identical).

So the reason for example the Video Assist to be so low cost is because they could bulk buy the parts. I haven't seen it but I bet the screen for example is found either on one of the URSAs or a scope or something in their line up. Same with connections, SD card reader from the pocket and so on.

And if people start editing in Resolve eventually they might get tempted to try raw, want more DR or higher bitrate. And then there isn't that many cameras to choose from. 90% of them will choose a BMD camera.

For me Raw vs compressed video is what I imagine Heroin is like compared to alcohol. Tuff to get the same fix.
I have a Bolex and love it to death but I've had 5 BMD cameras and if I needed a big crew camera, eng camera or drone camera the choice would be BMD 100% of the time.
(Unless Bolex did a new camera but that might be asking to much from a small company.)

Well the control board is $25 000 or something like that. They sell mixers, complete broadcast trucks, cameras, a recorder, EVFs, capture cards etc etc.
Resolve is just an application to tie it all together.

Another perk with an EVF is of course the extra Point of Contact for handheld.

Good luck with your documentary. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I like the shiny new toy aspect of 4K but to be honest, the Raw from the BMPCC has been on my mind since the first time I saw footage from it... So much so that I have been collecting c-mount lenses to use with it when I get one. I also recently saw some footage from a modded gopro to take interchangeable c-mount lenses. The footage I saw looked great and I think they were using cs-mount lenses. Honestly, I'd really just like all 4... The m3, g7, bmpcc and the modded gopro... That isn't too much to ask... Is it?

You could buy a used one. I just bought one in mint condition with 7 batteries and a cheap Panasonic lens (didn't even ask which one) for 50% of the pockets current retail price.
Also now when a brand new BMCC MFT is $1800 here the used prices on those are dropping fast. I have an offer of $1200 including a dock and an SSD.
And when the URSA mini and Micro comes out it will be even better times for us that likes to buy used

No sound thats correct. You would have to externaly record audio and synk it visualy to a clap.
But imo the raw on the eos-m is just to much hassle. Its not as easy as with a pocket and the resolution is low. Regular good old fashion Canon AVCHD is good enough.
Its a shame because I love Raw and its the only codec I currently use.

It all depends on budget and needs of course but I recently whent the EVF route instead.
I figured a 4" screen is good enough as a 5" and with the loupe down its huge due to the magnification.
Found a used but near mint Alphatron for €650.
+ good build, Sony battery (have loads), decent res, iris, Waveform, False Color, Peaking, multiple Zebra patterns, both SDI and HDMI with loop through.
    - A little chunky, price.

Testing quick skin tone test - with fujifilm look on Alexa and Sony F35 - seeing if they can intercut.
So Amira was on 100mm ultra prime on sticks
Sony F35 was handheld with 85mm ultra prime.
Opps!  Should have both cameras on sticks and with same lens!  Being lazy helps no one.
Anyway, I found the cameras incredibly similar looking.
Hope this little test is useful in some small way to someone out there, anywhere.
And if not, I am so sorry I wasted your time.  I really am.
If I wasted your time, please comment that I wasted your time and I will reply and say, "I''m really sorry I wasted your time."
The other thing is that the f35 with odyssey 7q to dpx 12 bit is around a $10,000 solution right now and the Amira is about a $60k solution.  Sure the Amira is a much nicer ergonomic system and has built in NDs and has many more nice convenient options, but really - you save $50,000. Because people don't like stuff from 2008.  They need stuff from last year.  It's kind of nuts how "gear-forward" everyone is.   Especially now that most cameras are in the same ballpark of log or RGB recording and resolution and sensor size.  Oh well, gotta keep selling the latest and greatest.
So you save $50,000 - that's a lot of money.  Just by buying something that was once new and cool and expensive but is now forgotten.
This is what you can buy with $50,000 you save.
    A set of nice lenses
    A house.
    A really nice car
    Help save the planet's infrastructure
Help save the planet's wealth discrenpancy problem.
    Shoot a feature film.
Bail your friend out of jail.
It can buy a lot of great things.
Remember kids, the latest technology is nice - but the best stuff from 2008 still holds up.  Go ahead, give it a try!  It's fun to play with old things!

Mattias Burling reacted to Gary Senda in JVC LS300 : Going to have one for 2 Weeks, Want me to test something 4 U?
    Hi all,
this is my first post, so let's introduce me. I'm from Italy, and I'm not a professional but simply an advanced video hobbist. I've bought one of the first Panasonic AF101 and I was an enthusiastic (and now an orphan) of this project. Two weeks ago my seller has given me a LS300 to test and after a few days I've decided to buy it. It is really a great camera for the price and VSM works really well (it is not continuous, it is in steps because remapping is optimized.
Hera are two screenshots straight from VLC. The first one with a zuiko 14-35mm f2.0 (set at f5.6) and VSM 86%, factory settings (video gamma and color matrix normal), manual focus and manual exposure
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/evahlifkdyh78f7/vlcsnap-2015-05-17-11h04m27s200.png?dl=0
the second one is an indoor shooting, no lighting. The lens is a canon FD 85mm f1.2 (set at f8), full S35 frame (no vsm).
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ksj9h8cy3o1scpb/vlcsnap-2015-05-17-19h51m59s127.png?dl=0
After 10 days of testing I can say that the LS300 is a big step over my previous AF101: less video noise, better resolution in FHD also, better latitude, better highlights holding, better performance in low-light, better focus assist, better use of the dual slot, 4:2:2 sampling in FHD and much more.
For the price this is really an honest camera for the budget advanced filmaker.
    Regards
    Gary

    Here's the response from Werner,
"I put a look on the skintone because we are trying to make the thing naturalized - and we can't if its flat - if I show you the raw image - then you have to do the work. So we are trying to save your time.  Which is very, very valuable.  I am sorry that me and my team did a bad job on the skin tones and that they look too Hollywood - we will try better next time if we don't all die very quickly by accident by a comet or something just as random as that, like getting hit by a stray bullet."

What electronic adapter that allows the Canon's electronic focus by wire are you using on the NX1?
I think every single NX1 owner wants to know because as far as we know, it doesn't exist.

I did a test once with the ef 10-18 and a dumb adapter on a bmpcc.
Since its focus by wire I expected no control at all. But the funny thing was it apparently focus when zooming. So it could be used with an ND for exposure.
I absolutely do not recommend it,but it was a fun experiment.
