  1. Most of these shots were slightly stabilized in post and still looks jittery haha! I have plenty of rigs I could/should of used but only had about 10 minutes to get the footage and was really just wanting to see how it performed in day light. It's also good to know hand held isn't so great
  2. I'll be doing some more tests today. I'll make sure to include audio. I also did a test a few days ago where I have audio from the on board mic. right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihu_Z8B7xcY I'm also making a short film on this camera in about a week to show off how it handles as a story telling tool.
  3. The Samsung NX1 is a pretty incredible camera! Especially for the price of $1499. I've been getting myself comfortable shooting with it and in the process edited this test video together. The Camera has a 6.5k super 35mm sensor that it down samples to 4k bringing a very detailed 4k image that rivals that of the most expensive cameras out there. Even those ranging above 20 grand. The Camera is also capable of shooting 120 FPS at 1080p with hopes of achieving 240 FPS in the next firmware update. The Camera records to H.265 allowing for very small file sizes while maintaining excellent quality. The camera also has 11.5 stops of dynamic range which is perfectly usable and on par with cameras like the Blackmagic production camera, Canon C300, Red Scarlet, and so on. Camera: Samsung NX1 Lens: Rokinon 24mm f1.4
  4. Got my hands on the Samsung NX1 so I thought Id do a quick simple comparison between my T3i and the NX1 just for kicks. I also show off its overall 4k quality and the on board sound coming from Got my hands on the Samsung NX1 so I thought Id do a quick simple comparison between my T3i and the NX1 just for kicks. I also show off its overall 4k quality and the on board sound coming from the camera. I would just like to add that this camera is absolutely amazing! I filmed this whole video on the Rokinon 24mm f1.4 Canon mount with the Fotasy EF to NX adapter. I graded the clips with Magic Bullet looks within Sony Vegas Pro 13. Actor: Matthew Mahaffey Camera operator: Micah Mahaffey I would like to note all the color banding your seeing in this test is caused by turning the in camera noise reduction all the way up and then compressing it in conversion. So this is a worste case scenario.
  5. You should suggest samsung adds a 2.5k mode with the options of 60fps, 30fps, and 24 fps to the NX1 and also a 1:1 crop mode like on the nx500. Both those options would help with rolling shutter and having more detailed 60fps would come in handy as well!
  6. I'd just get the NX1. It ultimately comes down to what you need and if what you need is good color/skin tones then the NX1 is the camera you'll want. If you need extreme low light the the A7s is for you. So if you can pass on the low light then the NX1 is definitely a great replacement. Plus you get internal 4k!
  7. What about having a 2.5k filming mode? Not only would we have better rolling shutter but then we might even get up to 60fps in 2.5k resolution! I think this would be a good add on as well.
  8. If you want/need a new camera I couldn't think of a any other camera to get!
  9. I believe it will eventually get all those thing (Probably not the slow motion) in future firmware updates. The NX1 base firmware was exactly the same but they fixed it with updates. I'm positive they'll load a new firmware onto the NX500 as well.
  10. I just received my fotasy adapter to mount my canon lenses on the nx1. It's a pretty solid build for $15 bucks.
  11. That doesn't explain why the 4k DCI mode has better rolling shutter performance over UHD..
  12. If you don't need RAW then just get an NX1
  13. IF you want 1080 RAW the pocket cinema camera is pretty much on par or better than the 5D's RAW video. Although I will add that the pocket is not really a very good camera. It overheats, breaks down for no reason, and has cost me 2 productions in the process. So I can't recommend it unless you like taking risks with faulty gear.
  14. Even with the crop this camera is about the same sensor size as a GH4 and even larger than a Pocket Cinema Camera/BMCC. So it's still a pretty sweet deal when you look at it that way. Its basically a 4k Pocket camera with interchangeable lenses and the option to go to super 35mm 1080p. Id still buy the NX500 over a GH4 if those were my options. But the NX1 looks far more appealing so for double the price as the NX500 id say its worth just getting an NX1.
  15. Why is it that the full 4k 4096 x 2160 mode has less rolling shutter than the UHD mode? People keep saying its because its not scanning as much of the sensor do to the 1.85 crop.
  16. Someone should message Samsung and ask them to implement a 2:35:0 crop mode where it only records the image in that ratio. allowing the Camera to have better and more controlled rolling shutter results. Its the same with how the full 4k mode has less rolling shutter over UHD because its not scanning as much of the sensor do to a slight 1:85 crop to the top and bottom. Now image now much better it would be in 2:35? Plus that aspect ratio works perfectly for a lot of filmmakers who'd be cropping their videos anyway. I don't know how to submit suggestions to Samsung on future firmware features but I definitely think this would be a welcomed idea.
  17. The NX1 is one of the most detailed 4k cameras you can get right now. Its down sampling from 6.5k sensor which really does show a major difference in quality. Its Dynamic Range isn't as good as the A7s but its around 11.5 stops which is perfectly usable an in my opinion not at all a downfall. The 1080p mode on the NX1 in my opinon looks fantastic! Especially with it having practically a global shutter.
  18. Dude! That's really awesome! I might look into getting an old red one of these days!
  19. The Samsung NX1 has a great 1080p mode with effectively a global shutter! It can also go up to 120 fps in 1080!
