  1. Then again I've had bad experiences with blackmagic on a couple of productions recently. Although the footage did come out looking great! It's just a big slow down for my style of shooting.
  2. It looks to me like the blackmagic is terrible and is most likely going to be put out of business by samsung! (kidding of course). I'd say the only downsides to the Panasonic is its lack of lens Change ability, and, sensor size (not very shallow DOF in this comparison). The rolling shutter on the nx1 is not that big of a deal when you look at all the additional downfalls of each camera. Some might disagree but I think the nx1 is the biggest bang for your buck. It's also my choice of upgrade. Blackmagics do create the most pleasing images but do to all the downsides like battery life, file sizes, low light performance, it just become the type of camera I'd rent if I need to shoot raw or something On a production with a bigger budget that can't quite afford reds.
  3. Is the rolling shutter really that bad in 24p 4k? I've only seen the 4k look terrible in UHD mode. Also the A7s is pretty terrible.
  4. How does the rolling shutter of the nx1 compare to say a t3i or 5d?
  5. IS there a reasoning for this other than it actually going down in price? Is it just on sale?
  6. I ran some tests! I pushed the grade and it holds up just as well as my canon T3i video does. It doesn't hold up nearly as well as straight H.265 or Pro res but its a pretty great alternative for when little to no grading is needed.
  7. Looks great! I really loved the dialog. Felt very organic. I just have one question. On the shot with the baby, and the women at the desk I noticed some "flicker", or "exposure drift". Is that still an issue with the nx1?
  8. Use Rocky Mountain Movie Converter! Set resolution to "same as source", select "h.264", set quality to "20", and select "fast convert". Your files will look great, be just as small as the h.265 clip, and run super nice in any editing software. You just aren't going to be able to push the grade like you can if you used prores. But it's a nice option I think. Pretty much on par with canon dslr compression.
  9. OK thanks! Glad to know its both fixed and or just user error.
  10. Its also noticeable here at 00:13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhLrapp8-oI
  11. You can see what i'm referring to at 00:15 to 00:18. The exposure of the footage slightly increases. I've seen a lot of this happening in footage and am just curious what exactly it is. It also happens again at 01:29 in the 1080p footage.
  12. So I've noticed a slight flickering in Samsung NX1 footage from clips I've downloaded and seen online. Is this an issue with auto exposure or something? Or has this problem been fixed with firmware uodates?
  13. Thanks for the amazing comments! I'm glad to see my t3i still works as a story telling tool. I wouldn't be upgrading to an NX1 if it wasn't for 4k becoming the new standard and I want to future proof everything I make. Thanks again for the kind words.
  14. The NX500 isn't out yet so it'd be hard to say exactly. But! If I had to say anything it would be yes. I say get an NX500 for even an NX1 over a canon DSLR at the moment.
  15. Thanks for the files guys! Those are exactly what I needed! I'm defiantly getting this camera. In about a month I hope to have a narrative short online using the NX1 just to show all the skeptics how it can be used to tell a story.
  16. Interstellar, Guardians Of The galaxy, and Birdman are the best!
  17. Yes! If there isn't any actual H.265 files to download Id even settle for the straight pro res converted files. I just don't wanna see it after vimeo or YouTube compression.

    NX1?

I've been doing a lot of research lately and think the Samsung NX1 is going to be my next camera. Does anyone know if there is any raw footage from the camera I can attempt to look over? I also want ot try pushing the grade to see how it holds up.
  19. I recently released a short film I shot entirely on a Canon T3i. I feel like the era of 1080p h.264 DSLR's are over but thought it'd be cool to share how they can still create great images. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjOk5-aeTzQ
