  1. My 6-core trashcan mac with 32gb ram mows through 4k much faster in FCPx than Premiere CC. I"m editing on a 40" 4k monitor, FCPx scales better too, unless I'm missing something with the way Premiere displays.
  2. Didn't have time, I'm renovating a house and ran into some issues. I've yet to see it in anything I've shot so far so it's not a priority. But I'll try to check it in the next few days.
  3. The second one was so full of holes and such a ridiculous premise that set the whole story in motion - it was flat out awful and had as many holes as the last Christopher Nolan Batman film. After the "terrorist attack" the whole Star Fleet executive branch decides to meet in what looks like a Hilton banquet room with no protection? They don't go underground? And I know it seems far fetched - but they don't go into space where they can't be tracked? I mean they have a whole Star Fleet to protect them, instead they opt for the continental breakfast so they can get slaughtered by one guy in a Jetsons car. Good lord, gimme a break. If I wasn't with my wife, I would have walked out right there. That was beyond stupid and it only got worse as the movie dragged on. I hope in this one the plot doesn't play second fiddle to JJ's idiotic anamorphic shaky cam. KAAAAHHHHHNNNNNN!!!!!!! I'm going to watch the new movie because Star Wars was the coolest thing I saw as a kid. I hope it doesn't disappoint. With Lucas not very involved, there's a chance.

I hope they're successful, there's lots of potential for improvement. At only $300 less than a GH4, and still undergoing refinement, its a tough sell unless it's going on a drone. 10-bit internal would get me to hit buy.
  5. The NX500 is about 1/3 of a stop better, not really significant. Its really no better than the A6000, in other words its among the best APS-c sensors out there.
  6. It has nothing to do with 4k vs. 1080p. The "true motion" stuff and the factory settings give it the soap opera look, everything is too bright and over saturated. The first thing I do is turn off the motion enhancements and tweak the picture settings.
  7. As the ISO's go up, the differences become more pronounced, by the time you hit 3200 its 2-stops.
  8. I'll double check this weekend. In both cases I looked hideous because there was too much detail.
  9. After watching this video I was pretty much sold on the DS1, now I'm not so sure. The weight isn't an issue for me, I used the Defy g5 with a 5d3/16-35 f4 setup and I was good. Its more about not having the jitters. Hmm...
  10. I'm not seeing this with my a5100 or A7rII, face detection on and camera in movie mode.
  11. There are exceptions and every client is different, but my comment is more directed at a speedbooster being something no real pro would use when I've never encountered anyone outside of gear heads that even know what one is. If it helps you get a nice image, who gives a shit? A mattebox and rails help if you need to look more serious. A big tripod can do the same. Same goes for a cheap external monitor. A few have noticed I'm using something as small as the A7s and now the A7rII, I just talk about how high end video is shrinking and show samples. It's never been an issue for me. I shot interviews with 28 local millionaires for a fundraiser piece not too long ago with the A7s, two people noticed the camera, both were avid photographers, the rest were focused on getting miked up and figuring out what they wanted to say. All were pleased with the image when I played it back after they were finished. YMMV.
  12. That explains a lot. There's nothing unprofessional about a speedbooster or anything else used to get the shot. I use DIY Kino's, foamcore for reflectors and a shower curtain as a diffuser, and one of my tripods has seen so much use its looks like a tiger's chew toy, whatever it takes to get the shot. You get hired for the image, not for pretty gear. Amateurs worry about what their gear looks like.
  13. But they wouldn't be able to do FF by sticking with the NX mount, and judging by Sony's profits from FE cameras, I'd bet Nikon is targeting the A7's. A Nikon NX1 really makes no sense for Nikon just from a lens standpoint. Using Sony as a comparison, FE lenses are better than the adapted A-mount lenses, adapters suck compared to native glass. Plus that price point is virtually no-mans-land for APS-c sensors. Samsung found out the hard way, people opted for larger sensors in the same price range - the A7's. Samsung sensors and processors in Nikon cameras make a lot of sense because now they can have the latest and greatest and not be subject to Sony's endlessly changing priorities.
  14. Hopefully they dump the NX mount and bring the AF tech from the Nikon 1 system, it's much better than the NX1's AF. I'd imagine there will be a way to use Nikkor lenses If this is true it's great news. It will finally force Canons hand in mirrorless and 4k. Everyone wins.
  15. The Metabones IV solved the flare issue. Firmware updates are improving it every couple weeks since the A7rII's introduction. I bought a Fotodiox to save cash, but it flares so badly its going back. Overhead lights, the sun, car headlights, computer monitors and every other concentrated light source just washes everything out. I'm just going to bite the bullet and get the Metabones.
  16. I'm still a big fan of Canon's dslr's, I'm hoping the 5d4 has enough to bring me back to Canon. I love the image from the A7rII, but I really prefer the handling of the 5d3. I just don't have the time to shoot raw and Canon's 1080p leaves a lot to be desired. Dual pixel AF on the 5d4 is a given since its all over the entry level cams that have been introduced since. I think there's a good chance for C-log. I'd be surprised if it didn't have 4k just because its the big buzz. The Cinema line appeals to a different user base, lots of TV productions, rentals and such where ND's, built in XLR's and manual controls are the norm - and stills aren't needed. I still think the 5d4 gets two variants, one with a bump to the 32-36mp range and 1080p and one with fewer MP and 4k - maybe like a s35 4k mode with 1:1 pixel readout. The lower MP sensor and 4k will also anchor the next 1dx that will spell the end of the 1dc. That's my prediction and the 5d4c will get me back to Canon.
  17. I have the A5100 and it does a pretty nice 60p, I'll try a comparison with the A7rII over the weekend.
  18. Interesting, from your earlier comments it appeared you favored the NX1.
  19. Here's a good review of the 18-105 on the stills side. http://admiringlight.com/blog/review-sony-e-pz-18-105mm-f4-g-oss/ Looking at flickr samples with cameras like the 24mp a6000, it should do a nice job with 4k. I'm getting one to use with the A7rII, they can be found around $400 used, it looks like it'll be a good run and gun lens. The rumored 2.8 zooms are likely to be priced around $3000 if the A-mount is any indication. You're talking about a different class of lens cost-wise. I'd adapt a used Canon 2.8 (both MKII's can be found around $1600, and they're the best 2.8 zooms on the market) before sinking that kind of cash into a new lens. YMMV
  20. Because its so difficult with the camera on a tripod to to magnify the image and turn the shitty focus by wire, which you claim is better, to get a sharp image. SMH...
  21. If you're only doing 1080p, cropping a 4k shot to 1080p will give you the equivalent of a much longer lens. It effectively extends the long end quite a bit. Just saying.
  22. I have one of the Neewer grips with the remote trigger as well. Its good, plastic feels cheap, buttons feel really cheap, but for 1/3 the price of the Sony, so what. It functions perfectly. I have my A7rII setup with BB AF and the grip does whatever you have the AEL toggle set to, so for me its great, I can use it for BB AF or engaging eye AF depending on where the toggle is set.
  23. If BM would just ship the damn camera...
  24. Not trying to prove anything or use derogatory terms for people with disabilities. You start a thread complaining about an issue, buy the camera despite knowing about the issue, and then complain about the issue again as if its something new. What's there to be "shocked" about it being "non-useable" for you if you already knew the problem existed? Its comical for how silly that is. SMH...
  25. Did you do any research outside of this thread before buying? If you did you would know, even after the uncompressed update, longer exposures still have the hot pixel issue. There are lots of samples on the Sony FM board: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/56 and on DPreview.
