  1. I'm flying a samsung nx1, with S lens. The camera by itself is heavy, with gimbal very heavy. For one handed use unpleasant.
  2. it seemed well balanced. Really not sure what to make of it. I was sold on the idea of these single handed gimbals.
  3. Panning seems to do it. Worst still, when this happens it makes the footage useless. Don't get me wrong, when it's smooth, it's very smooth. But it just seems hard to get shot of more than a few seconds before it all goes to pot.
  4. honestly, I think the gimbal, while sturdy, is just plain heavy.
  5. So here is the long and short of it. The Beholder DS1 is heavy. It can get some very smooth shots, but you will be challenged to keep the shot on target for more than a very short while due to the weight. Additionally, I noticed something unexpected, certain movements can cause the unit to freak out. This results in a type of fast micro-jitters, that will appear as jerky image artifacting. I wanted this unit to work smoothly. I do not know if this behavior is normal or if the unit is defective. But I can tell you normal handheld seems more pleasing to my eyes, despite being less smooth. Normal handheld just seems more organic.
  6. plus it can handle 3-4lbs. I have one on the way. I'll be sure to post a report. Will be flying a NX1 and A7R.
  7. agreed, but all this would mean is the price of all the nx series would go way up, just for sake of the badge.
  8. I suspect the nx1 is underestimated by many.
  9. Sounds like the nx1 is a beast.
  10. We have an Osmo, I agree low light is not it's strongest point, but it is nonetheless fun.
  11. Well just goes to show you. All those that thought the NX1 wasn't good enough have been shown the way. Heck, Nikon liked it so much they bought the company.
  12. are you certain? Seems many seem to think it does... http://www.tomsguide.com/us/samsung-nx1-mirrorless-camera,review-2643.html Search in the comments. Also here... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/video/features/mirrorless-4k-miracles-panasonic-gh4-sony-a7s-and-samsung-nx1
  13. I'm looking into a 3 axis gimbal and have decided to give the beholder DS1 a try. Anyone have experience with this model? If so what are your thoughts?
  14. The handheld movement was with the DIS on. I believe that coupled with the size of the NX1 makes it easier to wield. I'm curious to see how the 120fps HD turns out. So far I can tell you I'm really liking h.265 with Adobe support. From what I can see PQ is very good on the NX1. Better than sony and Panasonic. I've had blackmagic cameras, and while they have great pq, they would not be my first choice as a carry everywhere camera. Plus they don't shoot stills, so there's that. I'm thinking the NX1 is a keeper.
  15. Tbh there has been no official word from samsung or nikon, so all is speculation. But if true there is one thing you can count on, you will be paying 3x the money for the nikon version of the NX1. Not sure if that's a win for anyone here. And don't expect Samsung's level of commitment as far as firmware upgrades go. This is exactly why I bit the bullet and got the NX1. Unless my eyeballs are upgraded, the NX1 should be good enough for the next few years. At least until 8k is mainstream.
  16. Wouldn't be surprised if the nikon buyout is true. Love this sensor. Crisp hd and 4k... can't wait to do some slow-motion;-) Great lenses. Long battery life. No overheating issues. Modern UI. Nice colors... I could go on and on. It's an awesome value. Something tells me that pretty soon people will be happily paying 3x this money for the same thing with a nikon badge on it. Can't wait to really start putting this thing though it's paces.
  17. Playing with the NX1. The grade is all over the place, and yes, I know that parts are over/under-exposed. This is just for fun and exploring the art of the thing. Images were just some random stuff that I had in the camera. All footage is handheld (no warp applied). Did the edit in Adobe CC with the new H.265 support. All in all, took about 40 minutes. It's HD resolution, but I think the HD looks pretty good down-sampled from 4k. music_video fun.mov
  18. Just installed it on my 2015 mbp. All is good.
  19. some pretty wide shots there. Which lenses did you use?
  20. Think I'll try the 24mm Bower lens.
  21. You are of course correct. So to that point what fast lenses would you recommend? PS: I also am looking forward to native h.265 support from Adobe. Thanks, got it churring away as I type this.
  22. Do you have a link to the English version. All I could find was Chinese?
