  1. I tested it with their settings for gamma dr but forgot I had master black level still at 15 and it looked really nice haha. Didn't even realize until I looked back at my camera after grading.

And I definitely noticed a ridiculous green cast without andrews setting for gamma dr. But the film convert profile compensates nicely for this.

I don't have my camera on me right now but you can easily do this. Set focus to SAF (not CAF) in the menu, touch focus to touch (not tracking) and then program the AF button (off hand I am not sure which setting, something with hold, try them out). In video mode, when I press it, it switches to MAF and I see the peaking. It also shows you on the display a button with "MAF on" (but not in the evf). Press it again and you are back to auto focus. This works with and without the hack... Very handy, let the camera pull focus and lock it with the AF button, whether you are rolling or not.

I think the issue he was describing, or at least the one I'm thinking of is that everytime you enter video standby it defaults to continous autofocus :/ then you have to push the af back button everytime and/or choose saf. Just gets annoying.

Someone know if with hacks it possible to set manual focus in video mode, without setting it every times?

can't remember seeing it... did any hack fix the damn video evf monitor bug. The one where if you start recording video and if use the camera monitor you can't switch to evf and vice versa.

These are the two most annoying things about nx1 video mode to me lol would be awesome to get them fixed.

I wish video standby defaulted to single auto focus, not continuous which typically sucks. Or if your nx1 lens doesn't have a focus switch then manual mode all the time would be handy.

  4. Good luck on your search for a new nx1 my man. EBay seems to be the best bet as others have said. My gripe is the used prices are way too high in the US. I'm a nx1 16-50s lens combo owner wanting to complete a collection of the 85, 50-150 and fisheye but dang I'm really discouraged and it makes me want to bail on the nx1 haha.

Image quality is great but god damn this thing is huge. Camera is hella front heavy now. Not really a fan of big lenses...gonna give the Sigma 18-35 another day

I ended up selling my sigma 18-35 for this reason. Just feels too front heavy on the nx1 with an adapter :( samsung 16-50 S is perfect handheld though ;)

How much is the focal length multiplier with DIS on?

I wish the higher bitrate would also allow a better low light performance. At least a ISO3200 without those horrible lines.

DIS only does ~1.25 additional crop. Not to heavy.

In my testing I've found it to be around 1.15 additional crop. Maybe its adaptive to how much shake is going on? I did the test on a tripod and compared. 24mm with dis was equivalent to about 27.5 mm non dis. My test is not 100% accurate or scientific either.

When it comes to hacking maybe there is something in the code that defines the crop amount of DIS? I wonder if its just a digital crop or it its actually cropping in on the sensor. If it's sensor crop then maybe we can modify this to get a pseudo crop for extra telephoto and less rolling shutter  :glasses:

Yes I agree, it tends to be improving as bitrate increses, but not so much. I did the little test of DIS without OIS, maybe I nees to redid this with OIS on? I have a 16-50 OIS S lense, do you think DIS and OIS works better together?

Yeah try DIS with OIS on, it's very smooth on the 16-50 S. Tripod like if you hold still. I personally wouldnt use DIS without ois turned on if the lens supports it.

But I'm a fan of DIS turned on with vintage adapted glass too.

  8. Regarding DIS: I don't know if it's just me but it seems buttery smooth compared to before the hack. I did some testing with 35mm canon FD and its really nice. Still though in my opinion DIS doesn't work well on anything over 35mm handheld. But with longer lenses and a rig or a Samsung OIS lens its like warp stabilizer.

This tube is compatible more or less with the bayonet system attachment of the LX100, so I can fix the system on the camera with care, much better than fixing it on the fragile zoom...

Oh now I understand. I wasn't aware the lx100 had a bayonet system for attachments like that. Thanks for the link. I also read that the panasonic lx7 bayonet accessory tube might be compatible with the lx100.

I wonder if a 2x anamorphic attachment would work on the lx100 in 4:3 at max zoom (87mm) I have a proskar laying around that I will try eventually.

  10. This is great, anamorphic looks nice on the lx100! I was recently thinking about anamorphic on my lx100. Thanks for the idea! I want to try the anamoprhic shop vm lens because it's very small and wouldn't need any extra adapters. But i'm worried about the lx100 sensor size being too large. The vm lens is recommended for bmpc sized sensors.

The canon g7 accessory tube, what exactly is it for and can it be purchased online? Thanks!

  11. It definitely is a blast to shoot with for run and gun. Nice auto focus for grabbing shots. Stabilization is decent enough. Really impressive macro closeups at the wide end. Weak telephoto though. I think it hits around 80 mm in 4k crop. Never had any reliability issues with it.

When it comes grading it's tricky. Film convert using gh4 profiles works ok with some tweaking. There is a flattener LUT floating around in the topic Liam linked to that works ok. I have yet to find the secrect sauce for grading but I think it's an acceptable image given the price.

Here is some basic testing I did with the lx100

  12. The NX1 does not have a 1080p "clean out" option, but you can set the display to clear the overlays (see attached image recorded on VA). The VA won't downscale video to 1080p via HDMI, but I've heard rumor that the NX1 can downscale internally and output as 1080p. I'm going to ask Samsung support if I ever hear from them...

A little off topic but I have a few notes on 1080p NX1 capture. I was just experimenting with a 1080p capture card today and its sort of a goofy workaround to getting overlays to turn off completely for a clean 1080p out. Unless I'm missing something... First you have to go to user display menu and turn off date, buttons and icons. Also you have to turn off audio recording to get the mic level to disappear and make sure to press UP on the d-pad while in video mode to turn off histogram/level and put yourself into the half shutter capture mode which the title will disappear after a little. Also if you touch the screen to focus the white square will appear and stay there. So in other words... it sort of sucks haha.

Maybe I missed something though. Raney is there a more simple way to get rid of all the overlays?

  13. All great suggestions. Dean nailed my idea's for video mode. I'd also love the ability to have selectable video mode presets. Like a custom mode you could save settings to and switch between 24p and 120p for example. Like I used to easily do on the gh4 lol. Video mode kind of needs an overhaul. Its rather an afterthought on the nx1.

  14. what lens adapter do you use with your fd glass ? I am torn between the samsung lens you have and the sigma art lenses lol. Is it easy to manual focus or is the focus by wire element too distracting ?

I'd also agree that the manual focus on the 16-50 S lens is really smooth. Doesn't feel cheap or jerky. And the auto focus is great too in single auto focus mode. I have not had much luck using it in continuous. But I love tapping the screen and having it focus exactly where I want.

The sigma 18-35 works nicely on the NX1. Really sharp, great lens. Fotasy G adapter with aperture control ring is decent and inexpensive.

  15. Yes, Standard.
Right now I use Natural with :

    • Contrast -5 / Sharpen -5 / Noise reduction -5 / Saturation 0
    • Highlight 0 / Shadow 0

Almost no noise up to 800 ISO.

Check this beautiful video by a user with same settings on LX100 : https://vimeo.com/116671977
You can download the 2.5K version from Vimeo, and the quality is very impressive !

Indeed that is very nice. I have impulz and use it with my gh4 but haven't been able to match it well with the lx100 on standard. Do you still use your flatenner lut with those settings on natural?

  16. Still playing with the LX100, I tried a lot of profile settings and Highlight/Shadow curves to get the best image for color grading.
Finally I recommend the following settings :

    • Contrast -2 / Sharpen -3 / Noise reduction -2 / Saturation 0
    • Highlight -2 / Shadow -2

As it's impossible to apply a real LOG flat profile in-camera, so I created a LUT to flatten the image the safest way.
I based this LUT on the rendering of the VisionLOG profile with some adjustments.

    Download (.3dl and .cube in ZIP, 2.5MB) :  IWLTBAP_Flattener_LUT.zip

Hi, thanks for your findings I plan to try this out soon. Is this for the Standard picture style in the lx100?
