The novoflex nikon mount adapter is superior
  2. haven't seen any of these issues. My canon fd L set and nikkor resolves detail nicely. I'll try some sigma art lenses to really put the camera through its paces
  3. wowww. Standard pic profile looks awesome here ! Btw i've been playing with gamma dr lately and so far I've settled on -3 saturation and -10 sharpness. What is the lowest you guys were able to get contrast down without artifacting
  4. Its super easy to adapt lenses to the NX mount with the exception of Canon EF mount. I have a set of Nikon AIS & Canon FD lenses that look killer on the NX1
  5. if Samsung reads this forum I doubt they would kill the NX1 line lol. I shot with some nikon ais lenses and the detail in stills and video was crazy...this coming from a previous gh4 and a7s owner ! It has it's flaws but its amazing in post thanks to h.265. I was finally able to break the codec though stopped down to f8 in 4k by shooting a water fountain. The amount of detail from having everything in focus and the fact that even down to the smallest splash of water was being rendered was too intense for the codec but the fact that it kept the image so sharp had me stunned. I can't wait to see what can be done with an external recorder. Price tag aside the nx1 is an achievement. There needs to be a follow up thats full frame to take on the Canon 1DC and sony A7sii
  6. I find it best to underexpose if you can (situations with specular highlights and huge bright areas exceeding the sensors dynamic range). The codec does an impressive job of keeping information in the deep shadows. To the naked eye these areas look like they have no detail but somehow someway the nx1 has it stored in the files. There seems to be some sort of in camera noise reduction too so I feel safe pulling up shadows using neat video to further clean it up and then applying a layer of grain to add data to those low data areas. The end result is superb. Im going to do a test using the standard picture profile with lower saturation and contrast at default settings just to avoid color channel clipping and chrominance noise. I've been skeptical about the gamma dr profile because i've seen banding in certain color channels such as deep blue. Dont know if its cause of the sensor or the picture profile but ill figure it out with a little experimenting
  7. that's debatable. Using luts intended for LOG even if you flatten can introduce some serious banding and color inconsistencies BUT if it has worked for you in the past then by all means use it ! I use any of the impulz filmstocks in their visionspace mode. Its a flat gamma but its in rec709. I've stacked this with deluts which is an extremely intense suite of LUT's and the color and contrast came out perfect. It still leaves plenty of room to be tweaked. I am working on my own tutorial for NX1 users that can be applied to other camera's as well. Impulz LUT's are a good base to start grading especially if you can avoid clipping important highlight detail and use a picture profile that doesn't oversaturate your color channels
  8. yeah use the impulz luts better highlight roll off and still in a rec709 space. Again you can not magically get the benefits of 10bit log when the source file is 8bit rec709
  9. thank you ! These are with the FD's !!!! I received the nikkors this week I am just waiting for the lens adapter to come in the mail. Hopefully this novoflex focuses to infinity cuz my canon fd novoflex sure didnt lol
  10. you get better results using visioncolor impulz luts visionspace or film conversion luts. You cant convert 8bit rec709 to 10bit log. I recommend impulz with deluts on top of it
  11. did some black and white conversions with the nx1. Softened in post to get rid of the "oversharpened" look people tend to complain about
  12. native lenses whether its the lumix lenses or samsung s look very very sterile. These people design these things with mtf charts in mind not artistry ! I like flares and all the odities, I dont want my footage to look like real life. Personality is what we need. Even though I hate the fix it in post mentality I know a lot could be corrected in post with minor adjustments. I too downscale to 1080 Update to the vivid profile : try these settings out -5 saturation -3 to 0 contrast -10 sharpening -3 hue
  13. I definitely feel you ! Depending how this goes I just may sell off my Canon FD l lenses. Im praying these nikkors complement the Samsung sensor and has accurate focus to infinity. I think one of the things that was off putting for most is the lack of footage from adapted lenses. I feel like the lack of an optical low pass filter gives life back to the lenses from the film era & gives footage an aesthetic you lose when you shoot with the ultra sharp modern lenses. I'll be sure to post footage when I get em
  14. nikon 28mm f2.8 ais, nikon 35mm f1.4 ais, nikon 50mm f1.2 ais, nikon 85mm f1.4 ais was kinda screaming about the fact that I couldn't find a fast wide angle for the crop sensor and then I remembered how many wide angles I bought when I shot full frame that was catching dust in my camera bag LOL. The crop should help cut out the softening in the corners at wide apertures
  15. I just bought a TON of nikon ais lenses on ebay. I hope the color rendition favors the rendering of the NX1 sensor which was already gorgeous with my FD set. I hear the nikons are more contrasty & the shorter focus throw would make it ideal for my run and gun style. Too bad nikon doesn't make anything fast & wide ! No matter I prefer the look of a 28mm on crop. It gives you a hint of wide angle distortion with a near 50mm field of view. Excited to see what this brings to the NX1, you guys shots look really good with your lens sets !
  16. what lens adapter do you use with your fd glass ? I am torn between the samsung lens you have and the sigma art lenses lol. Is it easy to manual focus or is the focus by wire element too distracting ?
  17. damn that looks clean ! That lens is dope

Fuck man! Loved the build quality of the novoflex as my fotodiox just randomly started falling apart smh...looks like its back to fotodiox. Thanks for the advice as always I appreciate it

the first shot of the autumn colored landscape is with my cheap fotodiox adapter and the second is with novoflex, both focused at infinity. I don't know if its the lens or adapter but I am leaning towards adapter because again I have never had this problem on my a7s before I sold that tbody

I have no clue whats going on. Im guessing its the flange distance ? But there is no way a precisely machined adapter by novoflex is having this issue. Im really not trying to go back to Sony but I have had no issues adapting lenses to emount or even to micro 4/3 I have no clue whats going on. Im guessing its the flange distance ?
