  1. the ntsc one i guess. 59.94 hz? Heres some footage I shot right after i updated, ungraded. 4k downscaled to 1920x818. all shot wide open (2.8) except a few that were at 3.5, had a ND 8 on though, with an old FD mount sigma 35-70mm with a dyaliscope junior 16.
  2. does anyone know why once Im in anamorphic mode regular 4k not c4k when i hit record it somehow disables to anamorphic mode and the screen loses the 4:3 aspect ratio and goes back to the 16:9? it still keeps recording though. EDIT: nevermind, i was in 24hz cinema mode
  3. that video was graded too right? it didnt look like anything close to LOG to me. maybe they just didnt have a good colorist I dont really think its fair to judge a cameras real image quality from internet videos anyway, there are too many variables that can result in unpleasant video from user to user
  4. I imagine they just dont want to release it unless it will perform well. otherwise people will just be pissed that the update sucks and theyd have to re-do it anyway
  5. used a gh4 + c/y Zeiss 28-70mm f3.5-4+ RJ speedbooster. I didnt shoot it 4:3 originally, but I felt like that aspect ratio fit

yes it works. I have an ef- m43 speedbooster and i have used a nikon to EF, C/Y to EF, m42 to EF, and OM to EF all without any real issues. It probably throws the focus distance off a bit.. not sure though
  7. I use mpeg streamclip. its free and works pretty well. It allows you to choose a custom frame size. There is also another called handbrake

Has anyone used the Rolleinar MC 28mm f2.8? If so, do you happen to know how it compares to the c/y zeiss 28mm f2.8?
  9. rich, how does the Rolleinar 28mm 2.8 compare to the c/y zeiss 28mm f2.8?
  10. The dog schidts would definitely have the most character. Im not sure they have as large a range of focal lengths as the rokinon set though. I really like old canon FD lenses. You could probably find a full set of the SSC series lenses for pretty cheap. I have a few old Vivitar lenses that are FD mount that have really nice flares and are low contrast. You could probably find a set of 19,28,35,50,135 on ebay but may be more difficult and probably just as much or less $ than the canons. there are a bunch of random lenses in FD mount that are awesome. its hard to tell online sometimes but my local camera place has several shelves on them I go through and try things out C/y zeiss is another option, i am currently trying to build a set of those. they seem to have a good balance of sharpness and character to me. They will be significantly more expensive for a full set. they are not hard to find on ebay. they definitely arent what i would consider to be "character lenses" though I have never used them, but I have looked as some Russian lenses from a company called MIR that seem pretty nice. probably similar to helios. A full set of those might not be too hard to find in Europe There are tons of other options too
  11. I definitely would not take that lens apart unless you have done it before. Get a lens cloth, fold it and lay it over the rear glass element. Tape it to the body or something so it stays on and you can Drimmel the shit out of those ears. Maybe lay another piece of cloth or something over that for extra protection.
  12. thanks for all the help guys I figured it out though. somehow my eye sensor got re-enabled and was set to high
  13. Was on a shoot last night in a night club and my camera's lcd screen keep turning on and off. Sometimes for around 30seconds. I have never dropped the camera or had anything hit it. Ive owned it since last May. Tried putting a different battery in (both were fully charged), formatted the SD card. Didn't seem to make a difference. The camera would continue recording even when the screen flicked off though. I did check to see if the camera was switching to the EVF but did not seem to be. unless that eye sensor is f*cked and was switching it off before i had a chance to look down. Has anyone experienced any weird problems like this? Just thought Id ask around here before calling up Panasonic and dealing with all that
  14. Looks great! Its important to keep in mind if this is meant to be played on TV all of that over sharpening will look much more appealing. Most people watch a TV from at least 8 or 10ft away from the screen. Watching it a foot away on your computer, you can pick up a lot more on those little things that can sometimes be less attractive
  15. *(forgot you said it didn't need to be on camera) http://www.amazon.com/TAKSTAR-SGC-598-Photography-Interview-Microphone/dp/B00E58AA0I/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420751673&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=takstar+shot+gun+mic $35. its got a +10Db switch I bought one of these just to check it out and to have better backup sound when recording to separate devices. Ive seen some pretty good comparisons on youtube between this and the Rode Video Mic (not the pro one i think). Its really not too bad, considering the price. Pretty good indoors. I dont really have that great of an ear for picking up small differences in audio equipment though, so I am not the best person to ask. I think I read some where that this mic is manufactured by the same company that manufactures Rode's stuff too. not sure though

If I work on a set where the camera is on sticks the majority of the time I usually measure the distance with a tape, plus all of the other distance related info. I'd say its a good habit to keep. Depends on the shoot though. Usually one of the AC's will do that anyway. Sometimes lenses can say your focus point is 7' away when its really 8', especially on older lenses. If you're buying $$$$ vintage cinema lenses I would make sure they are properly calibrated

Does anyone have any recommendations for an older lens that is wider than 20mm and usually no more than ~$300/400? Fisheyes or not, doesn't matter. Any mount.
  18. Awesome. Yea I find the gh4's grain pretty pleasing in most cases. That's how I feel too. Thanks for the reply!
  19. I was just wondering if is possible to be shooting 4k video on the gh4 and record downscaled 1080p to the ninja star. I know the Ninja Star only records up to 1080p but if I were going to be downscaling the 4k to 1080p anyway on my computer, would the ninja star be able to do this for me? Or would the ninja 2 or maybe the blackmagic hyperdeck shuttle 2 be able to do this? I don't see the Shogun to be a cost effective option for me at the moment and I'm not sure I would buy it if I had the money anyway. I'm sure having 4k 10 bit 422 and downscaling that to 1080p later would be better than 8 bit 4k, downscaled to 1080p 422 10-bit. But would it be that great of a difference?
  20. thanks man! I believe It is 48 fps, might have been 60 but no I didn't slow it down any in post
  21. Here's a music video I shot recently on the gh4. Zero budget but I feel like it turned out pretty well http://vimeo.com/115369481
  22. Cool, was not aware of that. I have looked into rollei lenses but before but have never seen a 3 blade. thanks for the info fellas! Are there any similar issues with PL-m43 adapters? Is that Mod difficult? I have a 28-70mm contax zeiss and was thinking about getting a 50mm f1.7.
  23. Gotcha. Is that because of the flange distance or whatever you call the rear part of the lens behind the actual mount? I know that a canon camera has to have the mirror removed to work with a lot of pl mount lenses but I was thinking that wouldn't be an issue. do the rollei's have a triangular aperture too? thanks for the reply!
  24. Hey everybody. I was just wondering if anyone knows or has ever used a PL mount lens adapted to a speedbooster (metabones or RJ) and if it works or were there any issues I am considering getting a PL mount adapter for my gh4 and already have an EF-m43 speedbooster and would really like to be able to still use the speedbooster to get closer to a s35 look. Specifically I would be trying to use Zeiss super speeds mk 1 thanks!
  25. Just a short fashion film I shot during a photoshoot the other day. Its pretty much the first real thing I have shot with my anamorphic lens, mainly due to its lack of run and gun ability, but I found with the 35-70 things worked out pretty smoothly. Never had to swap out lenses and it performs very well. I did not use the new firmware update photo mode. Mostly 48 & 60 fps Let me know what you think?! (Ive got a 15second version on my page too)
