I think the 3 cams have a "video look". The only question for me is: how good the Slog2 will work on the RX10 II?
Low light performer maybe the LX100 thanks to the f1.7 lens.
We need more downloadable videos of the RX10 II.

As far as diving into Blender, I recommend this youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuGWRbFrq3bZkOEpQ02Xpww His videos are short (sometimes too short) but they are very clear, and he covers A LOT of topics. Start with this playlist: Blender 2.6 Tutorials for New Users Beyond these tutorials, just search for intro to Blender type vids on YouTube.
And while there are constantly new versions of blender every few months (they are on Blender v2.7.5 now), you can safely follow any beginner tutorial that uses Blender 2.6 and up. For the intermediate level videos, try to stick closer to videos about Blender 2.7.x.
Also recommend the website blenderguru.com. His tutorials are on the more intermediate/advanced levels, but they are very good.
I will be honest, Blender can be frustrating to learn at first, so be patient. Like I said, it took me two weeks just to feel comfortable using the program!

I feel like you, Blender is my pending subject and I want to do a video for Christmas about a comic superhero with a lot of FX and green screen.
Could you post some links to the best tutorials or examples of Blender?
    Thank you very much!

Hello all! Just completed a music video for the track 'Freefall' by Koishii & Hush. I was approached to make an action scene, no band performance at all, which was a challenge. There could be no dialogue and it had to be interesting for the length of the track.

I wrote a detailed treatment about a female thief coerced into sneaking an organ into a fortified hospital, which the band approved. Casting the thief would be tricky; the character I wanted to create was not a tough-as-nails-seen-everything-badass. I wanted a sense of humor, not a female Steven Seagal. So I needed someone first and foremost who could act, but who was also athletic enough to handle the role. Thank god for Amber Marie Bollinger.

Amber was in an absurdist comedy webseries I stumbled across a while back called Hollywood Is Hard, and she was hilar. I looked up another couple roles and reels she was in, and she more than had chops to handle the acting required of the role. And to boot, she was a collegiate track and field competitor, which knowing as many stunt people as I do (married to one), is one of the gateway drugs to becoming a stunt performer. Odds are she could handle the athleticism of the role.

I cold contacted Amber and she was game to play. We met up with my stunt coordinator James Hutchison and my wife (who happened to be the right height to double Amber) and ran her through some basic fight training, which she picked up impossibly fast. We did maybe six or seven fight training/rehearsal sessions before the shoot.

The shoot was three full nights and two half nights. I had the parking garage at work locked down on weekends, which was a godsend (I still owe the building manager a case of booze). Even so, we needed to fly through setups, I want to say 25-30 a night, and with more than half of them being fights/stunts, with a skeleton crew. For lighting, we kept it natural, augmenting a bit here and there, throwing a backlight or scrape when needed. We used a lightweight homemade LED system I built that was battery powered, which allowed us to work quickly.

We shot on the a7s with Nikkor glass. I chose the a7s mainly for its lowlight; I couldn't afford to light a whole underground parking lot. I also wanted a high shutter speed AND the ability to shoot slowmo, and in that low light, only the a7s made sense.

Given the time constraints, I'm happy with what we got. And while I love good cinematography, nothing is more important than performance, and Amber and the stunt crew killed it. Hat tip to Mark Musashi and Darren Bailey (knife guy) who had the longest of the fights and made a meal out of their performances. But the biggest asset was Amber, who aside from pulling off all her choreo (and that car vault!) kept the cast and crew laughing throughout.

Post was a whole other story. The edit took less than a week, but the effects took about eight months. Reason? I never had done 3D work before and I certainly had no budget to hire anyone. So I taught myself how to use Blender 3D. Why Blender? It's free and there is a huge community of users and tutorials to help learn it. Took maybe two weeks to get literate enough to know what kind of questions to ask. From there it was tutorials and trial and error. The learning curve was a bit steep, but by month two I stopped yelling at the screen. I think had there been a real deadline, I probably wouldn't have even had a gunfight, but since I didn't I did.

So that's the long and short of it. Any questions, I'll be around.

    Hi guys,

If you don't mind me complimenting you, but the information on this forum is the most on point in regards to digital filmmaking, indie filmaking and the like.
Therefore, I'd love if you could chime on what it might be a dilemma for me, right now. I'd love to purchase a camera for some arty/indie filmaking, and I'm torn between these three cameras that are mentioned in the title. (the Sony being the only one we cannot properly check). I was trying to decipher what all the reviewers are saying, but I am still puzzled about a few things.
So, there you go. I am not that worried about interchangeable lens. Sound as well. What I am worried about it is the cinematic quality of an image. Broadcast quality. Can we say with some certainty, which one has the "best" image? (most details, least artificial video look etc). Will Sony win that round - do we know? Obviously, ability to shoot 240fps in 1080p is great,  but what's the quality of the image? What IS important for me is the low-light capabilities of each camera. I will be using a camera mainly for some guerilla micro-budget projects. That's the scoop. I'd super appreciate if someone can comment on it.  Cheers.

    Hi!
I just have a few pointers that maybe will make your decision a little easier.
    Concerning the heads:
Big difference between Manfrotto 500 and 502 Heads is Pan and Tilt variable drag control that 502 has which makes a huge difference when you need both slow and fast movements. The 500 has fixed Tlt and Pan drag, you have to try it if it works for you. It could be to loose for your gh4 and lens combination. I recommend to go somewhere and try it first. The 502 on the other hand can be adjusted to be completely loose or very stiff but still fluid. The 502 is much bigger and heavier and has controls on the oposite side, which many people hate, maybe you will hate it too, because of that I also recommend to try it first.
But in your case, I presume that you will be using a tele lens, so with that in mind I would reccomend the 502 because a small movement on the head is a big movement in the video on the tele end.
    Concerning the tripod:
What you want is a small light tripod that extends a lot, and that's a problem becasue that kind of tripod needs to have a lot of stages (leg extensions) and with every additional leg extension adds to overall instability of the tripod. Also, having a lot of leg extensions is a real hassle, I mean real pain in the ars especially if you have to move quickly to another location and can't move with extended tripod.
Another thing, concerning the tripod (foto tripod legs) with many stages and a video head like 502 with Pan drag adjusted to be stiff, there will be a big problem regarding the tripod's Torsional Rigidity ( just google "Tripod Torsional Rigidity" ). When you pan the head in one side, the legs will twist in that direction and when you stop the movement and let go of the handle, the legs will twist again to return to their normal state and you will have a big backlash in your video. Just something you have to bear in mind. I have seen several times people blaiming video heads for the backlash, but actually the legs were to blame. Professional video tripod with a center or a floor spreader minimises that backlash.
Also if you are going to buy that small photo tripod to mount a video head on it, I recommend adding a ball adapter (half bowl) because adjusting for the horizon with the legs only is a huge hassle and time consuming. There are several on the market, cheaper ones like sunwayfoto dhy-66i (new revision) are quite good. ( http://foto-tip.pl/en/sunwayfoto-dyh-66i-leveling-base.html )
A light, small, good quality and afordable price tripod is very hard to find, though I have recently bought a Triopo foto legs tripod for 85€ and quality is very good so try to see if something from their range suite you like: Triopo GE-3232X8C ( http://foto-tip.pl/en/statyw-triopo-ge-3232x8c.html ) this is just an example, you can browse to see what other tripods they have, and maybe in your case, depends where you are from, you can probably find them cheaper somewhere else. Triopo is ok for the price, 24 months waranty in the EU and many web shops have it.
I would also recommend max 3 stages for a video tripod legs, but you need it to bee quite small when not in use and quite long when extended, and that complicates things.
    Hope this helps a bit.
    Cheers

1000fps at 1136 x 384 is unheard of for a consumer camera, breaks new ground,
250fps at 1080p is genuinely groundbreaking as well for £1k.
That is going to look brilliant.

I started with a really cheap but increible funtional, light and transportable, Mantona Scout (1,6Kg / 69€) and later I added a Manfrotto MVH502AH video head (1,6Kg / 170€).
I´m talking for a Blackmagic Pocket.
Now I´m looking for a second one to use two cams, they are photo tripod without head:
    -Induro AT014 (1,1 Kg) = 105€
    -Benro A2580F (1,9 Kg) = 146€
The 500 is too expensive (380€ amazon) for me but weigh it´s OK 3,1Kg and it´s a video tripod.
I discard the 502AM for the price (540€ amazon)
For my uses (nature and live events), mobily and price is a must, I prefer a photo tripod + video Head.

Looking to buy fluid head and tripod for GH4, for mostly video vehicle tracking shots: fast cars, airplane landings etc. Thats both fast and slow tracking, panning and tilting.

There was a similar topic with 701hdv, but it was 2 years ago and there is new stuff available.
    1. I've thought about Manfr 500 or similar like 502 - what do you think, buy 500 or 502 or other?

I am also looking for tripod allowing me to make shots from eye level perspective, and as light and small ( max 52 cm ) as it could be in a normal price range.
    2. Any suggestions?

Price for whole set: tripod + head = < 350Euro.

Santiago de la Rosa reacted to Ed_David in Coppala's "Little Fat Girl in Ohio That Brings Down the Movie Business and Turns it into Art" is Kung Fury
Kung Fury is most creative and fun film I've seen since Napoleon Dynamite.  Here's the link -  a Swedish film funded by Kickstarter - here's a link to the full film.
Basically it came out of nowhere - made by David Sandberg for no money just with his friends and raised on Kickstarter up to $600k for a 30 minute film that beats pretty much every Hollywood action comedy I've seen in the past 20 years.  And all in 30 minutes.  It's just a pure idea that's hilarious and so well made and thought out.  He took his skills from music videos and created something more creative and brilliant than made by a much larger budget like Mad Max: Fury Road.  With a more realized world, better script, and more interesting characters.
Here's a behind the scenes look at the film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReYHl8SPVfM
It doesn't look like much to make it - just guys on a greenscreen - and it oozes personality and character.
You don't need hundreds of people and studios behind you to be creative - just a little idea.
That fat girl is David Sandberg.  He circumvented the whole world of Hollywood and made a better Hollywood movie than Hollywood could make.
You don't need hundreds of screenwriters and rewrites and famous actors and egos - just one vision - one idea - and a bunch of friends, and a little bit of money.
The internet allows this to happen.  The Internet allows anyone a fighting chance.  It is decentralized.  Gabe Newel, the CEO of Value talks about this - if you have a good idea, it will get out.  Word of mouth.  It just gets out.
So next time you make something, anything - just make it good.
Put all your money into making it good and the Internet will take care of the rest.
The film is a trojan horse - it seems silly but the message is simple - "Hollywood - with all your focus testing and test screenings and computers you can't overcome something simple - film is about storytelling and mood and following the vision of a director or small-knit group of friends. You have become lost and distant to what is possible in the modern era."  With more films like Kung Fury becoming successful, I now have renewed hope in the future of filmmaking.  Boring and unremarkable films like Ex Machina and Chappie and the Avengers 2 of the Hollywood machine can go far, far away and real passionate auteurs can make their films from anywhere just with going straight to the people, who are much more intelligent than Hollywood gives the world credit for.
