  2. I'd sign up but I want confirmation that this works on a Bell & Howell Kowa 8Z.  I don't want to have to buy another anamorphic for this to work on.  Also more pictures of it on different anamorphics like they claim it'll work on.

    the answer from anamorphic shop:

Thanks for asking. FM Lens work with all anamorphic lens who fits 71mm diameter hole. No Exceptions

  3. I'm in as I've said already, I like the test results, just a note:

when they made the first copies of their VM 1.5x anamorphic, I bought one and the results weren't so good. Hopefully, the second/recent/newest example that they made, was much better...

So, based on this experience, I'm not sure if in the (not far from now) future, they will make an even better copy of the FM too. And all of us who will buy the first examples will run to sell them so to buy the evolution of the first FM examples...

    Just my thoughts ;)

I hope this won't be the case Yannis,  thank you for reporting your experience.

I am just going to see if  they will provide us a discount coupon, afterwards each of us can make  their last decision to buy or not.

    Cheers!

    Ok, no problem, I'll ask.

    thanks

  5. The "Grey Vignette" is often called a "veiling flare" or "veiling glare". Often caused by longer bodied anamorphics and/or the size of the front element. Most anamorphic lovers consider it to be yet another artefact that is attractive, watch Any film with beautiful Panavision C lenses flaring and you will often notice it. To minimise or eliminate it - don't point the lens at a bright light source! Or use a mattebox and flag to cut the light from hitting the front inside edge. I doubt the FM module would impact flare character much at all, the only thing to watch is the rotating front - if the glass is dirty or smeared it will create a spinning streak in its flare.

Here is a vid explaining most common artefacts asociated with anamorphic, a few "veiling glare" shots shown

thank you, I found it very interesting!

  7. Yeah, no kidding! Where are we at with the whole discount thing?

I am going to send the list  tomorrow to the anamorphic shop and negotiate if that is possible for the best discount price.

I will let you know how it goes, x fingers, ;)

I am going to ask them if they can provide  a coupon code for the ones who are in the list.

If any of you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Feel free, you are welcome.

    thank you.

  8. Thank you. Very helpful. I didn't actually realize until now that anamorphic lenses are coupled with spherical lenses and not self-contained with focal lengths/aperture and so on. So I guess the underlying spherical lens determines the focal length and the aperture opening?

I wouldn't have a problem focusing with dual rings. I tend to prefocus before rolling and don't adjust focus whilst recording. So no issues I guess.

If I had the money I would listen to what rich101 suggested, an iscorama 36 single focus, for what I am experiencing  with double focus system I can say that sometimes may distract  and destroy your creativity and tire you down, worrying all the time about getting the focus right, there is a bit of frustration to consider IMO.

Ok! you said you prefocus and don't adjust focus while recording.

Wait till you have a single focus anamorphic lens in your hand, you may rethink and change totally direction, like  for example going for a short film, music video, or just  go down in the street  with your camera and improvise, record just what is passing by, and while  you are there something strange may happen, and you catch the moment, you can't with a double focus system.

This is  only my opinion by the way.

Nothing wrong with double focus lens, I have 4 of them now, but I also had an experience with a single focus lens which I sold unfortunately cos I needed money to buy a new camera.

  9. HI Andy, what about a tamaron 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 CF macro BBAR MC, with an adaptall 2 mount.

I found it on a second hand market, I guess nothing good at all, paid  only 12 euros.

    Thanks.

  10. Hello,

I've been experimenting with shooting anamorphic video on my GH4 in 4K photo mode, using a Rectimascop 48/2x adaptor.

The more I shoot, the more I see the need to monitor the unsqueezed video in real time, for better control of composition and focus.

Can anyone recommend an HDMI field monitor, 5" to 7", with the ability to stretch the video width x2?

    Many thanks,

    Izhar

    Have a look at this: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>

Maybe you'll find something interesting for you.

  11. I'm read threads at RU, DVXuser and here.
Looking to get a relatively cheap anamorphic adapter for around $500.
It seems that the Kowa 8Z and its alternatives is a good bet.

I've seen others that are projection style but the EOSHD book states that they should be avoided.

    Is that still true?

    Essentially avoid this

May I ask you what camera you have? maybe there will be more options for you.

  12. is 250 to much

    pounds, dollars or euros?

Please can someone on this forum help this guy to make a choice, I can't as I don't know this lens, and I am not an expert, but I am pretty sure that there are people among us here who can share advices and tips.

He is not asking us to pay for the stuff, come on!!!

What is the best price for this one? what is the best deal?

What's the purpose of the anamorphic forum otherwise?

Share and help should be the a priority, I am sure one day he'll return the favor, and I am sure everyone of us has already been in his situation.

     Be nice and smile :)

    Thanks.

  13. Ciao!

In these days I'm using monopod more and more, especially for medium shot and close up, thanks to the faster workflow compared to my trusty tripod 501HDV.

I sold my Flycam some weeks ago and, after reading that "Dallas Buyers Club" was shot mostly handheld, I am very motivated to become a good handheld shooter, because I loved the cinematography of the movie :)

Untill I stand still I have pretty good results shooting with a GorillaPod SRL Zoom (with ballhead) and with a little cheap shoulder rig.

But, as soon I start to walk following the talent I have shaky shots.

Of course I use a wide angle lens stopped down, but the results are quite distracting...
I saw some great films (and videos) that show the talent walking perfectly  in focus, with a nice shallow DOF... so I'm pretty sure I need some hint to improve my technique :)

    Could you help me?

I've built myself this shoulder rig:

I know it looks terrible! but it works ok.

I also learnt how to walk properly watching this video:

  14. They really need to sort out their test footage.  sod the red camera.  Just shoot some humans with a 550d if needs be!  a human face in the foreground tells 1 million stories

yeah I fully agree, I guess we have to wait some more patiently to see the blossom spring.

  15. Where is the best place to learn? I don't even understand shutter speed when it comes to video, for example.

    Thanks!

I've learned so many things from this guy, have  a look, there are so many video tutorial you can learn from.

He is a photographer and he talks about how to take photos and stuff, but you can apply the same principles to video too.

Or just search on google for the video tutorials on how to shoot video, I am sure there are tons of stuff there.

    I hope it helped.

    Good luck!
