Well excuse me but I don't like at all the colors and grading of the 2 images above. I never said A7S colors are shit however. I even showed in another post some great videos of A7S with nice colors (and in each case it was not SLOG2, and very little grade). Just an exemple :

Sony A7R has same shadow retention as D810!! and that is why he bought the A7R!! cause he did the pixel peep and found out it's like this. But then the goal of my post was to show that at the end of the day, it's not about specs, it's not about shadow retention but about the image (to a certain extend).

Then he tried the A7R thanks to a friend and liked the quality, compared (pixel peep) with 5DIII and was blown away by : 1- Dynamic Range (I saw his tests and when getting back the shadow informations and so on it was indeed crazy: clean on A7R, horrible on 5DIII) 2- sharpness (36mpx vs 20ish and lack of AA filter) So he was shocked and was like "cool I don't need to bracket anymore, ... .." so he just bought the A7R and used it with his Canon lenses. Almost sold the 5D but never did it. He realized at the beginning that when he edited pictures, he got wired colors and "flat" image in the way not really pleasant like it was on the Canon, even after 2 hours of photoshop on it. But he thought that it was because of the learning curve of being on a new system. And then he was just used to it, and 10 months passed. And then, he checked back his very old pictures and was like wow... There were looking really nice on the 5DIII! and he remembered those wired colors and lack of nice contrast. So he decided to do some test with the old 5DIII again but in "real world" instead of pixel peeping. And the conclusion was easy: the 5DIII produces way better RAWs than the A7R. The result he can get on Photoshop is just better, better colors, better contrasts.... And looking at the past ten months: horrible A7R ergonomics, tons of problem (died because of non weather sealing) bad handling due to small body, ...., .... So he his now going back on the 5D !!!! Well.... I got the 5DIII myself. I am super angry like Andrew about Canon and their shits (NO FEATURES on canon: they have the color science and lenses and thats it). Sony is completely focused on specs and features... Look at this awesome AR7II. But at the end of the day, what do we see ? Best results with 5DIII. In video, same with A7S and 1DC !!! what a surprise! A7S has specs (120fps, 4K, 23427490284294782048 ISO....) 1DC has nothing but the image is just miles ahead. So whatever do we say about canon, even if we split on them. If Canon does a 4K 5DIV or a 5DC because they choose to segment (and I think they will do one or the other) then it's gonna be a hell of a camera. I decided to post this stories because of the similarities with the video world (canon colors, sony colors...). I was sold with the A7R II, and now I just don't know anymore. I am still waiting for a good FF camera that does photo/video WELL... What do you think guys?

What we need is a 5DC with 5DIV stills capability and 1DC video quality, in a 5D body of course (not this uselessly big 1DC body) for 3500$. Of course because it is canon this would be 4K 30fps / FHD 60fps so no 4K60p and no FHD120p. But even then... That would be a hell of a camera. And still far in features from C100/300 so...

50 is sexier than 42 because 50 is a round number, it is half of a hundred, it is impressive. 42 seems to come from nowhere and is a bastard number. Well it is the meaning of life though. Anyway, I personally do not care and 42 is already too much for me. Would just like a 16mp A7SII with internal 4K @60fps and no pixel bining in FF, and 1080p @240fps, S-LOG3 with of course body improvements and IBIS, for 2500$ :). But either the camera won't have these specs (FS7 territory hello), either it will be priced over 3200$. So I might end up with the A7RII anyway.

​You are blind or you did not read my link ? It is still compressed but they work and will release via firmware uncompressed RAW on A7RII. BTW for the last interview Andrew just posted, they say A7RII does 240fps at 1080p but it is most likely a typo. A7SII will do 240fps at 1080p.

It's funny, because I have posted on the most read french forum about the A7 R II saying that it looks awesome and that Canon 5DIII is outdated and I have been bashed like crazy, people saying 5DIII is not outdated at all and their arguments : auto focus, optical viewfinder, ergonomics, build quality, battery life, pro features (double card,...) and that if you look pro images on 500px.com they look same if not better than A7R image (given the poor 5D dynamic range). So some people here, before saying Canon are dead should be aware of the average opinion of the people. You (us) here represent a minority. Consumers prefer Canon cause they think it's the best brand, Pros prefer Canon because they think it's more reliable (built quality, batteries, ... ..) Pro summers doing film and wanting a normal camera body... We represent 1% of the market if not less. That's why Canon does not care. Still I hope they put 4K in 5D4, and better DR. Even though, as videographers we should stay with Sony, they make cameras for us, Canon does not intend to.

I bet there is no Global Shutter. They would have highlight it. As for 14 bit, remember that ALL the A7 cameras have "14 bit raw" written on their specs on the Sony website. So the guy on this forum just saw 14 bit and he thinks it is true 14. Truth is 99% chance no global shutter, and 80% chance no real 14 bit raw.

Agreed, but for photo you forgot the Dynamic Range. Landscape photographers will move away if it is still this same ridiculous DR. There is talk about 15 stops DR for the 5D4 though ...

So it sounds guys, that you will ALL be wrong, and that I will be right Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Talk [CR1] Only selling points of 5D4 will be better ISO/DR for photo (AF is already excellent on 5DIII, mpx count wont evolve much, ergonomics as well..) And for video it will be 4K ,and the Dual focus system found on the 70D. Now imagine a hacked 5DIV, with RAW 4K, best world AF for video (completely usable), all Canon lenses native, Canon colors ..... Well not bad no ? It will be priced 3500-4000 though..

​The A7S will do 120fps at 1080p. A7S will have 4K internal without pixel binning in full frame, and 120fps at 1080p so it will still be better than AR II in video of course. Question is will they keep the 12mpx or be able to fit a 16mpx sensor (with same noise control). 12mpx is really low for photography (landscapes..). As I do 50% photo / 50% video, I will go A7RII if A7SII is 12mpx and/or especially if they also increase the price at 3000+$. If price remains 2500 for A7SII vs 3200 for A7RII, I might go A7SII anyway even with 12mpx only.

SLOG3, new body and IBIS, better AF and if lucky : 16mpx BSI, 4K60 fps, 240fps in HD. Then I would not know which camera to take. The A7S was more expensive at 2500USD than the A7R. Now they bumped up the price of the A7R so two things: either the A7S is a small improvement like A7II and price doesnt change. Either it has all improvements I listed and it is gonna be 3500. Then I think why not the A7R II... it has everything I need. And those 42mpx for landscape photography.....

And now tell me again 5D4 (or 5DC if they release 2 bodies) won't have 4K as I suggested 5 times on the forum and everyone laughed. If they don't do it, well it is the final end of Canon FF for at least video user, and appart from Pro photographers, I don't know what else prosumers need than this beast?

Ebrahim is right. But well, who would be unhappy with 43mp, FF, 399AF points, nice small body, internal 4K clean in S35, ... It's a hell of a camera for people who need one camera to do it all. And what did canon ? releasing a 5DS with 5DIII body and 5 years old tech ? seriously ? I mean do you guys realize this ? If someone gets a 5DS now I dont understand.

We've used an a7R II with a Canon 24-70mm lens and a Metabones adapter, and focus is indeed very fast indeed. We'll be looking at this in more depth as soon as we have a production sample camera, but for now, we're highly impressed. Canon should expect some cancelled EOS 5DS orders..."

You first say A7S colour is horrible (without giving any explanation). Then I show you 2 exemples that are very good colour and you agree with it but saying "well it's possible but very hard to get those colours". I prove you the guys did the least grading possible in the word. So now you don't know what to say anymore. Your video comparison means nothing, of course it's easy to get horrible colour with any camera I can give you 5D exemples with bad colours. However if you get videos with nice colour and little grading then you know the camera is good. There is no discussion to have, I proved it to you, broke your non-arguments in 2 sec and now you cry because I said you say bullshit. Which you did. PS: apparently you don't know the product well, first because of your BS statement about it at the beginning, then because you obviously don't know which mode to shoot and how to set properly the A7S to get nice colours with little/no grading. Sounds that we are off topic, which was originally the presentation of Sony plans for the future.
