  1. Why would you want a small chip camcorder?? Unless you have a specific purpose in mind, then don't both! An example exception might be a very fast paced run and gun doco, and then going for the likes of a Sony X70 could make sense. As for a large chip camcorder, nah don't go for the AF100. (unless you find it INSANELY cheap, we're talking sub $500 territory. At least!) A couple of years back I was seriously considering buying one, but glad I went for the hugely superior Sony PMW-F3 instead (which is dirt cheap today, but I probably wouldn't buy in 2017... as the FS700 has now fallen down to extremely attractive low prices).
  2. Errr.... but why buy a Canon at all?!?! You can look at Expired Listings on TradeMe to get a rough general feel for market values. Where do you live in NZ? What gear do you currently have, and what do you use it for?
  3. Not a bad thing however.... you can buy from eBay and sell on TradeMe for more than what you paid for it?!
  4. Hell no!!! Would be battsh*t insane (from a business perspective) for Nikon to collaborate with a third party to make EF lenses work well on their cameras. Be much better if they cooperate with third parties for making Nikon F mount lenses work on their new mirrorless cameras. Indeed, this is very likely. The feature film I recently worked on, had the Nikon D500 as one of the cameras used on every shoot.
  5. I have been a source ;-) This is why I buy secondhand ;-) I picked up F3 for a song! Exception: when an INSANE sale happens! I purchased my BMPCC brand new during the $500 sale. Which to my surprise, they still sell for more than that secondhand today! :-o
  6. Raw (ML Raw or anything else) in general is overkill for a doco in 97% of situations! Say what?! You lumped Left and Libertarianism into the same thing??
  7. Freeman Dyson is a giant in the world of math and physics. As for myself, I'm not Freeman Dyson, but I know a little about it from my science degree in mathematics (with almost a 2nd major in physics, plus I taught mathematical modeling to undergraduates at university for many years). Thus I know more than enough to be highly skeptical about mathematical models being pushed for a political purpose! I suppose many of heard of the famous saying: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics!"" Well mathematical models can be misused and abused even worse than statistics can be! However, I loved mathematical modeling, and it is an extremely important area of study, that has many very useful applications. Just don't be ever taking them immediately at face value! Especially not in highly politically charged situations.

  9. Thousands and thousands of MFT shooters would disagree with you that "nobody wants to use their mount". Their own mount?? WTF I hope not! That would be madness.
  10. More tools to assist you in the heat of the moment is always a good thing.
  11. More info here about the SMWB (uses a single AA battery, a very small transmitter!): http://www.lectrosonics.com/US/Menu-item-for-category-listing-module-497/product/561-smwb.html And the info for the dual battery version: http://www.lectrosonics.com/US/Menu-item-for-category-listing-module-497/product/562-smdwb.html Wish I could get one of each and a SRc! Ah well, maybe next year.... However, it is very weird that it has a max of 44.1KHz?? What on earth are they smoking.... Also is a damn pity there is no TC :-( Guess they're still keeping a reason for you to buy their PDR instead. But having a split gain recording option is nice.
  12. Disagree with you about Sony, if they were happy for competitors to use their mount then it would have already happened. Agree with you it was dumb of Panasonic to use EF :-(
  13. Of course it can! For instance the JVC LS300 camera. Loudness doesn't really matter when mounted on a drone! No chance in hell this fits with a Phantom sized drone. EF vs MFT is a choice they make. E vs MFT is *not* a choice they make. As they have no choice at all in using E mount. It isn't an option at all.
  14. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5989056/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm Was immediately curious to check it out on IMDB, but seems your credit list is a bit empty perhaps?
  15. You don't always have the luxury of a high resolution screen. And focus peaking can help give you a bit more information than what a high res screwn would give you. I was yesterday 1st AC on a short film with the GH5 and the DoP only had one monitor for his camera (& no HDMI pass through! So wouldn't even have mattered if we had a second). So I had to use the GH5 screen itself for pulling focus when it was on his shoulder. Having focus peaking really helped save my butt when pulling focus on the Nikon 50mm f1.2! :-o
  16. Being the cheap bastard that I am, the camera next year from Nikon which interests me the most is the D5600 replacement! 4K with focus peaking please
  17. Just because the Arri Alexa has been ruling the roost for the last few years, does not mean it will be the smart choice for the years and years to come! (rest of your life!) The past is not the future.
  18. The D5 replacement is not coming in 2018, maybe not even 2019.
  19. If the D5600 replacement gets full sensor 4K with focus peaking, then I'm buying it!
