  1. Looked at a dance film we made of my wife's choreography on an HVX 200 shooting in SD...still lovely by any standard...one can never really blame the camera...only how you use it...
  2. I also looked at this lens....I think the challenge is going to be cutting the ring off, without getting dust inside the lens. Depending on your location, I would try to find a clock maker or someone who can service lenses properly...I opted not to bid on it for the reason that, cutting it off is not going to be easy and a Dremmel tool will throw off so much dust, you might contaminate the lens....perhaps PM Rich, as he is obviously very knowledgable in this area...I think this will require someone with his skills.
  3. Loved the look of your short, the lens and of course your grade and the GH4...never really get how people judge "perfection"very well done in IMHO...Also thought you achieved good production value in the colors of the set, furniture and her wardrobe...well done!!
  4. Aaron...I think you and Zak are already getting amazing footage with this profile, especially how recently you got it...Shian on PV has also come up with some beautiful shots...it will take time to nail this and Shian correctly predicted that most people will hate it, but he loves what this does for the GH4...it will only get better with time....
  5. I think the real value of Vlog lies in the fact that you can now, with a properly lit set, shoot with this camera and come away with footage, that rivals very expensive cine cams, which you could not rent for a 3 week shoot, for the price of several GH4's ...it may not be a good run & gun/walk around profile, but it's just another element added to an already pro packed camera...making the GH4 ever more relevant...Apple should learn from this...
  6. Looks very impressive even in 8bit...beautifully shot Aaron!...did you try it with the Arri Rec709 lut?
  7. Seems to handle ISO 1600 with no problem...did you shoot in 4k and is the Odyssey 7Q+ data hungry at 4K?...just got the Shogun and it does 43 min on a 240G SSD.
  8. Preference is so subjective when it comes to color from cameras...to me Canon looks like it belongs in every Debbie Reynolds movie ever made, where as I really prefer the colder image with accurate white balance from the GH cameras...
  9. Hi Andrew Any date for when the Rangefinder will be on sale in the USA....sorry about being off topic, but itching to get one!
  10. Atomos Shogun on the way...so happy I bought that 2nd GH4 body for $1300!...
  11. Zak...did you have to order 2 keycodes or does one work for both your cameras?
  12. I'm going to presume it's 1 upgrade per camera....I own 2 so I guess it means buying 2 upgrades?
  13. I am looking for a Kowa Anamorphic 2x for Bell & Howell that's optically in good condition. I can purchase with Paypal and live in the USA Thanks, Fritz
  14. Agreed...if you want a zoom, move the camera....not the field of view on the lens...maybe this is why it does not come up in forums...very few would zoom during a video clip as you would always see the beginning and end.
  15. Hi Zak...a bit off topic but I read on a thread somewhere recently that you have a 2nd Kowa Bell & Howell for sale? If you do you can contact me at fritz@bqdance.com with details and price Cheers and thanks much Fritz
  16. I was trying the Portrait Super settings for a bit and then noticed Zak's clips shot in the Natural profile...for my taste and purposes this gets to where it needs to be...still awaiting Vlogl, but I have to say these Natural profile and settings are bringing beautiful image out of the camera!! I switched to Portrait but then noticed Zak's clips shot in the Natural profile and with his settings, to me the image is now spot on...still excited about Vlogl, but if it never materialized, this gets me there!
  17. The difference between 8 & 10 bit would be much more apparent....using the camera all day...lit set...$150,000 a day crew...lots of actors...a narrative and scenes that actually have to cut together...that would be a real test...I'm a bit off topic Renaisance Man:):)...
  18. Something as simple as a reverse gear on a follow focus solves the Nikon lens focusing direction...As the AF-S 28-70 f2.8 Ed and AF-S 80-200 lenses are the best I've ever used, its a small thing to deal with...for the privilege of using Nikon glass of that quality!
  19. This one would get you away from the matte box and solve the problem of vignetting... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Screw-in-Mount-82mm-Metal-Wide-Angle-Lens-Hood-for-Canon-Nikon-Pentax-Sony-82-mm-/330722764703?hash=item4d009ce79f Very impressive piece of kit...the 240 degree focus throw is definitely an exciting addition to still lenses!!
  20. The DJI Phantom 3 comes with light bridge software I believe (you'd have to confirm) and you can buy 2 models...the 4k pro model and the cheaper HD Advanced model...you'd have to check the specs...I also believe they use 20mm lenses...my Inspire 1 does...If all you need is SD or maybe 720P, the advanced is excellent value at $999 US...you can use your iphone as a monitor...the Inspire is like having a tripod in the sky....rock solid and if you google phantom 3 footage you will find it equally impressive...that 999 is ready to fly...only a small monitor for camera POV needed...I also tend to use the gimbal on follow mode and use the quad to create the movement I want for the shot....hope this is helpful!
  21. How does the Rangefinder attach to your Kowa...I pre-ordered from Adorama as soon as I saw your footage!!...Does SLR Magic sell directlyor is this only available to a select few at this stage?...Also, do you remember your white balance setting...the clip is so spot on!...Fritz
  22. Hi Zac...the stuff in the kitchen looks amazing...was it shot on the Kowa B & H and GH4 and what taking lens did you use?...If Gh4 did you use Natural settings?...Beautiful footage!!!...Cheers, Fritz
  23. I can't really speak for what others expect from their cameras, but I remember the GH2 won the most important praise any camera could earn...chosen in a blind test as the best in the Zacuto shootout by Directors responsible for films like the Godfather Etc....and that little camera did not get there overnight!...The GH4 is coming into it's own in a timely manner IMHO and the irony for me personally is, like with most people using computers and virtually leaving the brunt of the capability untapped, the same is happening with cameras. There are suddenly more DPs than PAs in the world and cameras are just not good enough anymore:)...unless perhaps we actually bother to use them!!
  24. Glad I just bought my 2nd GH4 body!!....new Metabones speedboster xl Nikon G arrived last night...big difference in the crop factor and the build quality on the adapter seems even better than before...It's good to have a confirmation from a Panny official that they are releasing vlog...now onward to the last step to make this the perfect camera for my use:)
