  1. A great piece by Hugo as always, with clearly a lot of effort going into it, I love the look Hugo gets out of the GH4 even in dark environments where the GH4 doesn't excel. I'd have preferred less nipple as that cheapens the discussion around the video itself. Hugo makes a good point about the practically of a lot of anamorphics, trying to focus, clamp and then work with them can be a real hassle. Putting together a native anamorphic which doesn't cost the Earth is an achievement in itself and so I'm looking forward to seeing more examples of SLR Magics in use. Haters going to hate.
  2. Thanks, this SLR Magic adapter is sharp at the edges, practical to use too, I'm going to get a lot of use out of it I'm sure. I'm planning a music video this Sunday so the lens will get another outing, this time in the daytime.
  3. Thanks, that's the first time I've used a flare in a video. But not the last. :D
  4. The taking lens was the SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 Cine Mark II for both of these, used at F2.8, the camera was a GH3. A live acoustic video, on this one I've intentionally gone for a look with flares: Some night street footage, at F2.8 it's a bit tricky when there's not much street lighting, I may well re-edit this video, maybe to include more footage.
  5.  I'm not 100% sure that's the best solution but I see what you're saying.
  6. Conceptually reminds me of U2 with the Edge for the Numb video,
  7.   It's not that simple, a normal step up alone will block the focus movement so you can't focus to infinity.   It's discussed here (there is an alternative solution using a coupler first): http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5908/25mm-f0.95-slrmagic-topic/p6
  8. I've been using the SLR Magic 25mm for what will have been several hours of live recordings now over a number of weeks, I used to use the Cosina Voigtlander 25mm before with a focus gear.   I’m finding the SLR Magic to be a delight, having the in-built lens gear means no slipping as I’d have occasionally with the Voigtlander and the sharpness really appeals to me.   Anyway here’s a couple of examples of the 25mm in use:   http://vimeo.com/62111836   This I did on Saturday with the 12mm also in use side of the stage.   http://vimeo.com/65099742
  9. It's interesting to see supposed low spec cameras being used in inventive ways.  Nice one.

I'm more concerned that there's iffy (and sometimes borderline illegal) price differencials in Europe.   I'd recommend anyone buying gear that's want EU gear, EU warranty (usually 2 years) and cheaper than a UK price to check: http://www.photospecialist.co.uk/   Only thing to watch is their prices fluctuate and the Sterling shifts against the Euro..  Weeks ago the GH3 was less than £1000.
  11. This is my second outing with the SLR Magic, I figured I'd put myself under pressure with a real life shoot, so this was recorded in 2 1/2 - 3 hours with the GH3 and 25mm.  There is no post image work, details of the complete kit are on Vimeo.   http://vimeo.com/62111836
  12. You'll normally get 20% VAT, occassionally packages from Hong Kong get through without but I'd always price in VAT as the vast majority of goods do correctly get tax added.   I looked at the c mount lens but that definately wouldn't do as an alternative for me, I want to use a follow focus and ideally without using a third party focus ring, I wouldn't want to increase the scale of the footage either to deal with vignetting.
  13. I've had without even using a follow focus, no issue at all with the SLR Magic for focussing, I wouldn't say the Voigtlander is any better, in fact the SLR Magic is better really as you don't have to mess about getting a third party focus gear.  I'm sure it's sharper too.  It does flare more which I don't mind but obviously it's a matter of personal taste.
  14. Just to add to this, I've only used the lens for an hour but I had no problem with the focus ring, even with the GH3's rather poor EVF I've found the SLR Magic lens easy to use, having said that I've used the Voitglander regularly so I'm used to working manually.   I've posted it on a couple of forums already so it's a video you may have seen but this was my first hour (well 45 mins actually as I'd to get back to watch Arsenal lose on the TV :P ) with the lens:   https://vimeo.com/61775147
  15. If you're curious, the GH2 was a hacked model, they've now upgraded to a GH3 to allow for slow mo.
