I just pre-ordered a 16 inch MacBook Pro. Question: what's the best, yet not extremely expensive, way to transfer old analog tapes to Prores on a MacBook Pro? I haven't had a Mac in 7 years and used to use a firewire device, but I no longer have it and, of course, computers don't use firewire anymore!

    I had your money!?! 🤣😂😅

Now I think about it, am not sure I can remember exactly what lenses he used back with the FS7? Even though I worked for them quite a few times. (plus I was manly just brought in on their "bigger jobs", when it is more likely he'd be renting in lenses)

But many people use FF on S35, such as Rokinon primes, with maybe just one or two S35 specific lenses to handle the very wide end.

And even if they were using exclusively using S35 lenses, it wouldn't have been a huge deal for him to swap those over to a new set I'd guess.

Additionally, URSA Mini Pro is EF/PL mount, the FS7 is E Mount. Thus if you just had E Mount lenses, then no matter for what sensor size they are, if you've only got E Mount lenses, you'd have to be swapping over your lens collection to something else anyway.

I state ... neither of them interest me ... in answer to your question ... yes many s35 cinema lenses ... from which ursa is not good because the graft is not very adaptable, 8k in s35 would have been fine if it had attack E vs Sony on the whole underperforming ...

"Confused" for picking a Sony FX9 over URSA?
Nope, is just that an in house DoP at an Advertising Agency has very different needs and wants to what an average forum poster has.

I would put it more professionally, if he has an fs7 s35, I would think he also has s35 lenses (if he's a good professional) ... that's why I thought your friend a little .... "confused" ...
certainly that then ... maybe he used full frame lenses on s35 ...

Interesting I've never noticed a difference when watching Mad Max but I guess I wasn't really looking for it either.

I really thought the new Ursa was going to be using a full frame Sony sensor. I honestly think they would have sold more cameras if they went that route. Internal full frame BRAW, with the URSA form factor and ND's.

They are selling like crazy ... S35 is the right sensor because there are no lens limitations

  5. Since the price (16 giga versions not yet available) is not a trivial thing:
Mac mini M1 with 16 gb ram and 512 gb disk will cost more than 1000 dollars (in Italy 1300 euros) ...
Mac book pro M1 with 16 gb and 512 gb of disk will cost more than 1500 dollars (in Italy 1800 euros) ...
More or less ... a lot of money for what he does
    For less than 1000 dollars I mount I9, 32gb ram, gtx 1080, 1terra ssd ..

Thanks for the suggestion but it's not happening unless FCP is deleted off the planet and all my cameras are set on fire.

Dear Friend, only the future has the answer ... are you afraid of the future?
Think once Indesign and Quarkxexpress was only on Mac
And going to the print shop was painful if you didn't have a Mac
Now I rarely see Mac for graphics and dtp considered that runs all
on a trivial Win PC ... Of course some nostalgic ....

I use FCP and have done for 13 years. I'm not using a PC, ever. Sorry.

Ok perfect ... But I would consider the Black Magic Design ecosystem, made up of cameras \ codecs \ editing software ...

at least for the future ... that is, bear in mind that you may one day have to move to Da Vinci ...

And, from what I understand is that this guy wants to start in Wedding videos and move to doc and commercial work.

Blowing it all on just a body.... doesn’t make sense.

    Equipment cost < Business Profit

Look at high end equipment later. Start getting customers first... start charging a rate that covers your hours put into it + equipment rental rate (estimate).

If you get enough customers then invest in equipment.

Okay but he's shooting too high ... He just needs a used gh5 ... to start ... lots of objectives and accessories out there cheap ...

Fx6 or c90 will not be cheap and not very far from 10k!

Thanks for all the input! Going to have to see if the fx6 lives up to the hype and if the eos c90 is real...

From what we understand you want a cinema camera, not a hybrid ... then I would put the Bmd g12 in the list ... you are in it on 10k body only

Sì, è vero, stavo solo commentando l'idea di currentheldon che potevano semplicemente dare un aggiornamento all'S1H per 120p in 4K.

Yes it was certainly not a personal criticism, we are friends of the forum.
I specified that if they wanted ...
